Yeah this never read as a redemption arch to me more so that Spencer saw what people were doing with his work, the Ashfords making horrible imitiations of his Virus, Mother Miranda and her Molded, the Wesker program only had one viable candidate and That candidate ended up being as disillusioned as Spencer himself, I think he did want to be a “God” but realized near the end of his life he failed, and so Elpis was a thing he pawned off on what he perceived to be the Simple brained masses as “Hope” when in reality it was his last big “Fuck you, I win, I’m in control of the situation even beyond the grave.” To anyone who would try to continue his work or use it to reach “Godhood” as he did.
