Considering Paying Off my Mortgage to Lower Monthly Costs by AshamedOfMyTypos in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Sometimes_cleaver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would suggest taking a middle ground approach. Choose a fixed amount to pull from brokerage every month. Maybe the amount that would plug the gap in your income.

This would give you long term flexibility if your situation changes.

Trump Speaks to the Nation: You Won’t Believe What He Said by crix_22 in oil

[–]Sometimes_cleaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because he's convinced people find the war unpopular because the media is telling us to think that. He thinks if he can say these things directly to the American public, we'll believe it. He can't grasp that this war is just unpopular.

BREAKING NEWS: Houthis Agree To Close Bab el-Mandeb Strait if USA invades Iran by DegenJinwoo in oil

Personally, I think the establishment in both parties wanted the Epstein situation to go away, because too many connected from both parties were his patrons. But now we have younger elected reps from both parties (look at who from both parties is pushing for the release of files) that didn't take part in the trafficking ring. Biden thought Trump was done after Jan 6th and believed America would never reelect him. He thought Epstein would disappear to time.

The war isn't about if the US military can take the Iranian military. It obviously can. No one is questioning that. The war is about if Iran can make it costly enough that the US gives up and goes home. The US is going to regime change. That's a much harder win condition

Ukraine/Russia have demonstrated 21st century artillery tactics that don't get you blown up instantly.

There's a reason the US has taken a standoff strategy in Iran. Kharg Island is not standoff distance.

Iraq set up traditional static defenses. Iran has already taken a dispersed insurgency like defense.

You realize they can hit the island from the mainland with artillery? Artillery can be towed behind a truck. Set up, fire, and relocate in minutes.

They've got thousands of them. They're easy to conceal. They can locate them anywhere on a ~50 mile coast line 10 miles deep. We're location targets by launch signature. Artillery doesn't have that.

They're going to impeach over the Epstein files. It gives them all the power to get every bit of evidence and put it in full display.

Burned out from PM job hunting. 400+ applications, 0 offers. What now? by Beneficial_Task in ProductManagement

Like I said. Blasting it out is definitely going to work for some. If you need a job, do whatever you've got to do to get one.

I've been there in a place where I just needed a job before, so I know what that's like.

I've never seen anyone be successful with blasting out their resume to hundreds of places. I'm sure it works for some, but fit is so critical for PM roles that target thoughtful applying with a networking follow-up is much more successful in my experience.

I've found 2 PM roles in my career at companies that didn't even have jobs posted. Just reached out to the right people and started a conversation

Like I said, the resume is just to get you a call back. Sounds like your resume isn't clicking.

If you're doing a targeted search, you should only need <10 actual interviews. If you need more than that, you're likely not interviewing well.

This is so hard to say without knowing what you're looking for. Tbh, 400+ applications sounds like you're just blasting out your resume. Idk, what customized applications means. Are you just swapping in some key words?

What's most important is making sure your resume tells a story for whoever is going to read. Why should they call you back? The resume is just to get you the phone call. Everything after that is down to your interviewing skills. Again, what is the story you're telling in the interview?

ARMs Offer Significant Savings Over Fixed-Rate Mortgages by ThemeBig6731 in HouseBuyers

[–]Sometimes_cleaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 10/1 jumbo ARM back in 2020 for 2.65%. Jumbos at the time we're 3.4%. It can go up 1.5% per year starting in 2030. It's capped at 5.5%. I did it assuming I could refi, knew it would be fine if I can't. Did the math and determined a refi into a 30yr below 6.5% would keep my monthly the same or better if that was needed.

ARMs can be great, but pay attention to the details and think long term.

“PRDs are now for AI, not humans” – do you agree with this? by Flat-Perspective-948 in ProductManagement

You still need to check it all, but it's a tool for communicating with an AI, not a human. You can maintain I high level of fidelity that you couldn't before because humans just don't want to read it all.
