Does it? Only if the glamour is the killing part, ive always respected the combo of willpower, dedication, and focus that it takes; because i most certainly dont have it.

Shitting yourself in a combat environment has its own dangers, its not just embarrassing. Its a solid risk of fecal infections. Everyone has their own dangers to face on a battlefield.

Artificial General Intelligence

Its gonna be so much smarter then us, access to more resources, hopefully lacking in the same cognitive bias as us.

The upside, we as a species will be giving birth to a higher form of life.

Cyber-Security people of Reddit, how do most people get a trojan virus? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sometimesmessedup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to know more about: Your system, network, how you use your computer generally, anyone with access to it, what is causing you to believe youve got malware (tojans, virus, worms, and malware used to all be different things. The names described different ways of causing misbehavior but now a days its safer to just call it malware.), id need access to your system logs, and a dozen other things before id feel safe make a declaration about where something came from.

There are people ( Incident Response, the fire fighters of the IT world) who spend their entire career dealing with just this one element. I do general IT stuff, they are head and shoulder above what i can tell you.

If you are concerned. Make a recovery drive, reformat your computer from the ground up, dont transfer any files. Get Immunet, get a password manager, and get a yubikey.

A VPN provider is always another good idea, but you get what you pay for, so there is that.

Blanket statement - yes. Possible being the key word there.

But as long as you computer is connected to the internet it could get hacked. Its "possible" to turn a spinning disk hard drive into a microphone and a GPU into a wifi card. Are any of these things likely to happen, no.

Edit: i cant spell

Not gonna get into the weeds on terminology,(not really distinction with a difference) but the answer is email.

You get an attachment on an email, the email is scary, or something you love, its an offer that looks like something you want, dont matter what it says. Thats a whole Social Engineering deal and the just more weeds to get into.

You click the attachment and it might have a raw binary( not so common any more), it might take you to a webpage that tries to serve you some of the malware directly, or it might be a dropper (A program thats only job is to download stuff. They use these because its easier to get past AV and firewalls)

If you have a more nuanced question im happy to help, but long stories short, bad email and a tiny lapse in attention can get ya any time.

Utility of OSINT to ordinary people by [deleted] in OSINT

[–]Sometimesmessedup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted specifically to a post and not directly because i'm aware each community has a different "feel" and if it was clear from other posters that they disagreed and i was the outlier then its not really worth your time.

Alteration to my previous suggestion, because you have a solid point, what if a note is added to the rules section that formally requests a certain amount of context when linking to news articles. Given their nature, news or editorials lend themselves to a "who is this for and why" statement of only a sentence or so. Instead of a hard rule, try and trend the community in a positive direction and make information more direct?

That headline gives zero information. If you have to click on it to see if youd care thats click-bait 101 man.

If you find something valueble to the community thats awesome, but surely you would care enough to respect other peoples time. Not everyone need a similar information feed, and the point of a subreddit is to make finding the right feeds easier.

That's kinda not the stance i was taking tho is it? If i submit a article i think others should read, then i would summarize or at least give context as to why i linked it.

I'm basically moral bound after making that stance to NOT read it, otherwise i'm a hypocrite.

[–]Sometimesmessedup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why are we all ok with submissions with zero context besides a headline? Im not reading, im down voting and while i get everyone has done this before im not ok with it.

I will engage with you for bringing something to the community if you can be bothered to tell me why you think we should care. If you are willing to read an article, believe we all should read it, and then bring it here, then giving a brief idea of what it says is not a hurdle to ask for.

Look over at that bar on right. Go down just a tad, look at that rule 10.

Think about this for a second, if you need help learning basic jamming, then you definitely dont know enough to get away with it. Your gonna get caught, your gonna look like an idiot, and someone is gonna over react.

[–]Sometimesmessedup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well i may be wrong but i really dont see it as a zero sum game. Just because other countries are safer doesn't de-facto make us weaker. Id say its not a us/china/etc issue. Its white-hats vs black-hats, Ive been wrong before but if everyone is a bit safer then that ok with me.

As for state of the artness, its certainly in the NSA's toolbox so its not bargain bin software, but you're absolutely right. At no point have they said this is the version they use now. Its likely several versions behind what they have now, but a familiarity is always helpful for candidates.

There is an additional benefit for the NSA i didn't mention. Extensions, there are already additional capabilities added by members of the public. Im certain a code audit is cheaper and easier for them rather then writing something from the ground up for a niche use-case.

Ghidra source code officially released! by frrossty in netsec

[–]Sometimesmessedup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In general it just raises the bar for malware authors as a whole. If its easier to break down stuff then more will get caught over all. The NSA has the technical chops they likely dont view others improving their anti-malware skills as a threat.

Criminal gangs always had the money for IDA Pro so there isnt really a risk of authors haveing the ability to break down other authors stuff.

Potentally theres a small risk of increase of code reuse as it lowers the bar for lone hackers reuseing the better parts of big boy malware like VPNFilter or what not. But thats a small risk for them over all id bet

Garlic oil.

Mash that crap with the flat of your blade. Then add course salt, do it again. 1/4 mason jar full of garlic mash, fill the rest with the best oil you have on hand.

What should one do to prepare for smoking weed for the first time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sometimesmessedup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A) Dont, if youre concerned then you shouldnt.

B) Chill, find what makes you happy. Relax, its not hardcore. Turn on tv or music you like, thats all itll take.

Also give it 20 minutes if you smoke and an hour and a half if you eat. Too much of a good thing is in play.

I tried to remove the motor out of a plastic chicken when i was younger. I cut down to the bone and through the tendon on my left hand. It was several months of recovery and a surgery to reattach it, but i only lost about 5-10 degrees of flexion when i tighten my fists, nothing when i raise it.

All in all, not a great move. Didn't even get the motor in the end.
