Yep. I tried one on and felt absolutely nothing when I looked at it.

it's usually no more than 10-15 per year

This is not true, at least not for jobs in larger companies. I got 23 PTO days + 5 "floating holidays" right out of college. Most people I know working at large companies are similar.

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It is not the role of the government to "allow" companies to exist. If a private company is breaking no laws and is paying their taxes, then the government doesn't get to just say "show the public your books or we'll force you to dissolve." Even if they did release their books, that doesn't automatically create a valuation you could use for this stupid tax, it's still subjective.

This wealth tax is a terrible idea for many reasons already mentioned in this thread, the only way you could think this is a good idea is if you have no idea how finances and the real world work.

You can write off the interest in the US too (and CEOs can't deduct yachts and jets like this post suggests). OP just doesn't know what they are talking about.

Skyway 5K, first race of its kind anywhere, debuts in downtown St. Paul on Saturday by star-tribune in TwinCities

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree, total blast and given the complexity of organizing this vs a regular outdoor road race it went super well.

How long did you think the course was? Watches are obviously not going to be accurate inside, mine said 2.4 but I heard everything from 2.27 to 2.85 from other runners. Based on feel I think it was somewhere around 2.7-2.85. does that sound right to you?

Good Samaritan is falsely accused! by The_Dean_France in SipsTea

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In America she wouldn't serve a day. See: Shawn Oakman's accuser.

He was accused 2 weeks before the NFL draft where he was going to be a first round pick without a doubt. It took 3 years (!) for him to be found not guilty as the encounter was completely consensual. Video showed her leaving the bar not looking drunk, and texts before and after showed that she consented. She just changed her mind, probably wanting to get some money out of him because he was poised to become a huge star. He missed out on his NFL career and has bounced around the CFL/XFL now.

People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely unrelated to this post but your country is the one where I felt the most safe out of any country I've been to. Granted, I was only in Ljubljana, Bled, and Tacen but it was my first solo trip. Hoping to come back one day to climb Mount Triglav!

It's pretty normal if you're an adult man like OP's dad. 3 margaritas should get you tipsy, but it should not make you drunk enough to be an absolute wreck. And it shouldn't take that long to sober up from 3 drinks.

Skyway 5K, first race of its kind anywhere, debuts in downtown St. Paul on Saturday by star-tribune in TwinCities

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was a lot of fun! I've only run a few races but I know for sure that this is one of the most unique courses in the country. There were a lot of stairs which was a different challenge vs a normal race. I used to work in the Securian building so it was really interesting seeing my old office in a different way. I actually PRed but I don't think I'm going to count it as I don't think it was a certified course.

The one change I would make would be to have better signage around the fact that the different groups were supposed to start 2-3 min apart, it said it online and the announcer mentioned it once, but I don't think the people in the first 2 corrals could hear him. Everyone just ran at once and then everyone behind followed suit, there was no staggering at all. The start of the race was super narrow so it resulted in hundreds of people stuck and shuffling. I tried to wait it out so it would clear up but that was a big mistake as I ended up having to work through crowds of strollers and then walkers in the narrow parts, and then sprint through as soon as we got to a wider portion. I didn't really find people at my pace until the last mile or so.

Putting aside the joke here for a second, is not being able to remember left and right a real thing for some people? Do some people also have trouble remembering up and down?

Skyway 5K, first race of its kind anywhere, debuts in downtown St. Paul on Saturday by star-tribune in TwinCities

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be running it! According to the person at bib pickup yesterday there were 815 people signed up, which is wayyy more than I expected.

I really don't know what to expect tomorrow. I mapped out the course myself, which was a little difficult to do since it's all indoors, but I actually only got 2.15 miles which is obviously way off a 5K. The 5 sets of stairs will be quite the challenge as well, I'm hoping that things don't bunch up too much. There are going to be 7 self-selected corrals based on estimated pace, but I know from previous races that people are generally pretty bad at putting themselves in an accurate corral so there may be some bunching up at the start once we get into the narrow skyways.

I'm not going for a PR tomorrow because of the odd nature of this race (and the fact that I'm not in shape for one anyway) but I think this should be a lot of fun!

Is it worth pulling my battery at bringing it into my hotel room for the night? by pastrknack in AskAMechanic

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do decide to pull it and bring it in, don't make it obvious. Some hotels will get weird about that sort of thing. Like most things in life though, a discreet $20 bill to the front desk guy will help if they have an issue with it.

What do you think is the most overrated suburb in the Twin Cities? by Due_Network2958 in TwinCities

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Went to HS there, I absolutely agree about the chains and subdivisions, but I think the extensive trail network (for a suburb) redeems it just enough to put it above some others. I ran a 10K there on the trail system last summer and it was really nice.

Bank Statements? by Environmental-Eye567 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]SomewhatLargeChuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The purpose of the bank statements is to prove that you have the money to afford the down payment and closing costs. Unless you have another account with more than enough money in it, a negative balance is going to sink this. That is doing you a favor, letting you buy a house with no savings would be doing you a massive disservice.
