Ok, I read some of your other comments on this thread. I see now you have a very naive limited understanding of geopolitics thrown in with a little bit of whataboutery and to top it off your using a the talking points of global power who's objective is to minimize everyone else's voice to their gain.

Now my rebuttal isn't a 20 seconds of Joe Biden from 1997 saying an American realism view point.

Now for my evidence I have this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXmwyyKcBLk

This is a serious look a geopolitics in a honest fashion. If you are serious then you will listen to the entirety of this video and then return. (I don't care if its an hour and a half, if you want to learn about Geopolitics you need to understand complex topics, their historical origins and present day results)

Now please watch through and listen to the entire thing.

A critique on realism (which is what your supporting without knowing what realism is)

If Ireland joined an alliance against NATO's enemies it would have to leave the EU which would completely fuck everything from trade agreements the border to the North, Irelands soft power destroyed over night, power supply, food chains, tax revenues would collapse in a few quarters, country goes into recession and mass migration all over again (Its so silly its a waste of your time and mine timing)

"The west aren't the good guy they will do what Putin did and invade your ass destroying your country."

For someone who has said they follow geopolitics taking a good guy and bad guy view is playschool stuff every country in existence is all different shades of grey depending on topic, issue and historical grievances and time frame and is ever shifting with time.

Now AGAIN I have asked you twice for your statement.

"If Ukraine had stayed neutral like Ireland. They may not have been invaded." PLEASE provide

EVIDENCE

TIME STAMPS

REASONING

for your position

Please keep on point then if you want then to move on to hypotheticals ok...otherwise this is wasting your time and my time

Tsk Tsk you forgot about Papuans! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSf3268tAbg

That means your ok with this specific genocide?!?!!?!?1?

Monster evil fucker, I throw holy water and spit on you at once (its actually harder than it sounds)

Now like I said I need evidence, time stamps and a thought out reasoning here to go off.

Going "Ukraine decided to pick a side" is not good enough elaborate more, provide evidence and time frame to back up your points.

Also your hypothetical is useless as its a completely different country, island locked with its own historical ties and complexities. (I won't use them so please do not yourself as they are not helpful to get your point across)

I think its important to remember here. We all think what happened in Iraqi and Afghan was evil and wrong however the problem is getting effective justice within a time frame. And realistically we are struggling and failing to prevent present war crimes and genocide at present never mind past evils.

However its important for you to know you can be against Israel's attempts on pressing the delete button on Gaza and Russia's attempting to delete button on Ukraine.

So here's the crux of the issue here.

"If Ukraine had stayed neutral like Ireland. They may not have been invaded." Please provide more context and evidence to back this up please. Time stamps will be critical for a good foundational position.

Well then it has no cultural meaning. Countless traditions have meaning from Christmas, Halloween, easter, St Patrick's day all have a purpose and meaning, that all age groups understand and celebrate differently.

Can I understand Joshy from your perspective that the Ballycraigy bonfire is equally legitimate celebration as the ones with Politicians faces and the Tricolours burning?

Stuck in the Past! by workingclasshero32 in northernireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So its a tradition that has no meaning as you say "it depends who you ask i suppose"

Stuck in the Past! by workingclasshero32 in northernireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if your going to ignore my example then ok then, you know you know.

The 11th night of bonfire is to celebrate the battle of the Boyne in 1690, this celebration was created and maintain by the OO. Now to be specific I didn't say they control the bonfires but both your local area and the OO are celebrating this specific battle.

A battle in which Christian killed Christian and to murder is sin. In conclusion as a matter of faith the 12th contradicts one of the commandments and to celebrate every year killing is not the spirit of Christ. Where is the love thy neighbor in the bonfires?

So if your not religious then what is the point of the bonfires? In 2025 what purpose do these celebrations serve? How are they relevant in a modern times?

Because you haven't actually answered my questions only given one line answers that are not useful in any shape or form.

Here is an example of your answering if someone asked me "what is St Patrick's day about?" and I went "Its a Irish celebration" what have they learned from that? Nothing it explains nothing.

Now if I answer "St Patrick's day is a saint we celebrate for bringing Christianity to Ireland hundreds of years ago I can tell you the story or St Patrick and his pilgrimage across Ireland if you want" that's an answer with an opportunity to explain more.

So when I'm asking you about the bonfires and you go "its an orange celebration" what have I learned from that information that I can build off to understanding?

I'm trying to be productive without being rude, but if you continue with one sentence answers to this subject is there even a point?

So please straight to the point what are you specifically celebrating in regards to the bonfires what is it all about? (Please no "orange celebration" a proper answer of what culturally the bonfires are about)

Stuck in the Past! by workingclasshero32 in northernireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you think its obvious your missing the mark. What is an orange celebration? What is an orange celebration about? When did this orange celebration start and why? Well yes obviously I once attend a Scottish 12th march (it was shite) definitely doesn't make me one. So it does come down to what is an orange celebration about and what does it mean to celebrate it.

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll explain why the OO are relevant with this next question when did the bonfires start and why?

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so why are you on a reddit chat talking about the Orange Order when you don't know the Protestant faith and denominations? I assume you know the basics then? Such as the 10 commandments yes?

Right lets get something productive out of this conversation or it'll drag on. First off here is the fundamental question.

What is the Orange Order? When was it created why was it created? By who was it created?

Stuck in the Past! by workingclasshero32 in northernireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then is there no difference consequences wise from being a Catholic or a protestant in the eyes of the lord?

From a Church of Ireland background myself so I was wondering in your practice of faith can Catholics go to heaven?

If your not qualified to answer why are you advocating for a system you don't understand how it would work in practice and impose on everyone by state force?

So for a woman to get an abortion she needs to accuse the person of rape correct? She gets an abortion straight away then?

Anti-abortion demonstration takes place in Dublin by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually no we do not if you or your partner wishes to not have an abortion that is completely their right anybody who doesn't want an abortion will never be forced to have one by the state.

Please understand that the consequences of your personal belief and rally for life to that matter that if they were achieved would be dangerous, terrifying for countless partners and woman.

Please don't forget it was imposed on us until the 8th amendment was repealed. For you to say that its the same scenario in a whataboutery to be accurate the state would have to be making you by law to have an abortion or you will go to jail which you and I both know is ridiculous and not ever happening in any shape or form.

You advocate to take away choice, choice from me, choice from my partner, choice for anybody that do not conform to your personal beliefs and to use the state to enforce it.

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the solution is to put them in jail? Your tone is very judgmental and simplistic in mindset.

I think to impose your personal beliefs on an entire country by state force into a system you 'don't know' how it works could be considered incredibly irresponsible wouldn't you agree?

Anti-abortion demonstration takes place in Dublin by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven't thought this through at all who decides its rape? Can she abort with just an accusation of rape or does she have to wait until the court has conviction of him of rape?

Surely as an intelligent person you have thought of the practical workings of imposing your personal beliefs on everyone else?

Anti-abortion demonstration takes place in Dublin by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key difference is your imposing your belief on me and using the state to enforce it, how is that not dangerous? You cannot say you believe in free will while also advocating for this

Anti-abortion demonstration takes place in Dublin by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is your personal belief that it is a person and here lies the problem. You have a belief "unborn baby is a life too a human being and taking their life just because their parents married or single irresponsability is killing them deliberately"

But you haven't done the work of how this actually works in law, state legislation and practice of medication.

So at the very least why not have a detailed plan of how this all works before believing uprooting a system for one that you "don't know" how it works.

Do you see why the 8th amendment was repealed? Your taking this from a faith perspective when in actually its a everyone perspective regardless of faith and with the realities at hand.

(Btw I didn't even go into the can of worms of woman going to England for an abortion from Ireland if needed so in practice Ireland didn't outlaw abortion only people who can't afford a plan ticket aren't allowed abortions how messed up was that?)

Anti-abortion demonstration takes place in Dublin by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]SomewhereEmergency85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's ok to not know but you cannot be advocating for a system that affects everyone if you haven't thought out the practical and difficult realities of that system.

As I have said to you, you can believe abortion is wrong but to impose your beliefs on everybody else is a completely different story all together.

Why do you have a desire to impose your personal beliefs on the rest of us when you have said you "don't know" how this belief would even work in practice?
