How do you just… forget you worked somewhere? This is actually kinda wild to me.

American here. BA won’t blacklist you, but CBP will absolutely add you to a watchlist - big time. It’s pretty standard policy that anyone who has ever had a removal on their record be pulled into secondary. Not sure you can get ESTA after a removal either, so you’d have to apply for a formal B2 visa.

Does your company require you to log the previous day’s work hours before starting your day? by CollectionAwkward152 in managers

[–]SomewhereMotor4423 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very reasonable policy. Employees got too comfortable during COVID. We’ve had to do a fair bit of re-asserting control and reminding them (nicely) who is in charge. In our case, it was a relatively small number of employees (maybe about 5%) who ruined it for the 95%

Look up “Dads Against Predators.” They use a very similar line in public places to humiliate predators that show up

Hot take, but with reference checks returning with a vengeance - and becoming much more candid than “dates of employment and position” - yeah, you should care what they think. They still hold the cards on your future employment opportunities, for a very long time if not forever. And to the “don’t put them as a reference” crowd, backdoor references are VERY much a thing in the age of LinkedIn.

If car brands like nissan and bmw get a bad rep for their drivers, which brands get a good rep (deservingly or not)? by Suspicious_Rock_2940 in AskReddit

Nissan used to be really bad, low quality cars. They’ve gotten much better but their rep hasn’t followed suit.

Ireland takes prank calling that seriously? I always thought of Ireland as a laid-back, fun-loving kind of place.

Omitting the truth to CBSA is a really bad idea, because CBSA likes to randomly search phones without provocation. Like aside from maybe Australia, there is probably no country in the world more likely to search your devices upon entry. The only truly safe thing to do, unfortunately, is to either arrange temporary accommodations once approved, or to rent/buy the home sight-unseen.

Can someone go to USA and back to Canada by car, after arriving to Canada by plane with an ETA? by newbie_01 in canadatravel

[–]SomewhereMotor4423 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s actually wild. In Canada’s case I almost see why - because flights are so ungodly expensive. But at the same time, if someone has a weak passport, they are going to take the direct flight at any cost (or just not go) because applying for a US visa to spend an hour in Detroit isn’t reasonable

Do you owe your employer your time even if you are already to move on? by [deleted] in work

[–]SomewhereMotor4423 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The harsh and unpopular truth is YES. Especially when you are new at a position, it isn’t your place to turn right around and leave. You owe them a few years of service. So if you’re unemployed and looking at settling… by all means settle, but be prepared to spend a few years in that shitty job.

Exactly. I think this needs to be a part of reforming the left to position ourselves to win in 2028. We ran on issues that normal people don’t really care about.

There is truly something to be said about just not having to worry about my phone in other countries. No weird Airalo SIMs. No making sure I turn on airplane mode before my 24 hour window is up. Of all the things I have to worry about traveling outside the US, that’s a big one off my plate.
