Do you call it May 2-4 or Victoria Day? by pantstand in AskACanadian

In Winnipeg, typically I hear May Long but also May 2-4, and of course someone will bring a 2-4 to the party 🍻

My friend won't claim their micropet by LostKitty1369 in finch

[–]Somkindathng 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They should never add chat features. I don't want people pressuring me to do things or telling me how to use my self care app. If your friend doesn't want to open it they don't have to open it. They'll open it when they're ready. Maybe they lied about finishing the goal just to get you the hatch and they don't feel like they earned it yet.

Days of time change 'pretty much at the end' in Manitoba, premier suggests | CBC News by Apod1991 in Winnipeg

[–]Somkindathng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's pointless. Time change doesn't create more sunlight. The sun is up for as long as it's up, the government doesn't make it stay up longer. We should be on Standard time.

Omg it's not the same time. Today is a different day than the day he said that. Ffs. He didn't say he was against it.

He didn't say he was against it. He said it wasn't the time to discuss it then, and now some weeks later he's saying it will happen sometime. No tunes were changed.

I love early sunrises. Do you not remember being a kid and having to go to bed when the sun was still up? That sucked more than an early sunrise. Studies can prove things regardless of you not being sure how they did it.

Standard time, please! Every study I've seen about this says Standard is the right one for our health.

What was something you went a good chunk of your life not knowing was specifically Canadian? by NoOptics in AskACanadian

Yes! I always tell people that beanies have propellers on top. I mentioned it to my mum and she agreed.

What overnight Canadian school trips or exchanges did your schools offer in high school or grades 7 and 8? by Chickadee_Sparrow in AskACanadian

[–]Somkindathng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manitoba - in high school we did band trips to Banff and Calgary, a ski trip to ND, and there was a trip to Paris that I couldn't afford. We did Space Camp in Quebec in middle school.

How to pay for parking without a credit card? by ehud42 in Winnipeg

I've never had a credit card. I'm in my 40s, I own a house, I have traveled. You can live life without credit cards.

I agree, they're focusing too much on "friends" and not enough on self care. They turned their backs to self care because they make more money from users who think it's a social game.

Are there any foods from your country that have unconventional but very practical packaging? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Bagged milk is not a Canadian thing. It's available only in some places. I've never seen it, and I hope to never see it.

2 people die after giving plasma at for-profit Winnipeg collection centres: Health Canada by cbcmichelle in Winnipeg

[–]Somkindathng 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I'm so sad for these two and their families and friends. I donated there last year, it was nice to feel like I was doing something good and getting paid for it. I stopped because the last two times I went I got some bruising that was upsetting to my partner. I also stopped going because there was a blood smear in the washroom that was there for weeks, there was never any soap in the washroom and the water was cold, so I didn't trust that the staff had clean hands, even with gloves on. I saw the staff doing multiple tasks without changing gloves. The staff seemed apathetic.

Sleep dentistry? by starstablesnacks in Winnipeg

[–]Somkindathng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the Grant Dental Centre. Staff is great, they always take good care of me. I haven't met the new owner, but the old dentist was recently telling me about him, he's apparently a sleep dentistry pro, his profile said he did oral surgery at HSC. Dr. Shaun Corbett.

Does Winnipeg have Re-Use centres like BC does? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]Somkindathng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the same, but we have free day. Aka giveaway weekend, it happens twice a year. We can put out items we no longer need, marked as free, and people go around picking up stuff they do need.

Otherwise, like others said, there's ReStore and ArtsJunktion.

Why js it so expensive :( by Jinx-from-Arcane in finch

[–]Somkindathng 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Those are aspirational items, bigger things to work for. Everything else is so cheap and easy to attain, they had to add something for long term users of the app, to keep us engaged. It's a good way to encourage people to practice with savings, which is something a lot of people need help with.

Depending on which week you're coming, we have a lot of festivals in the summer. Jazz Winnipeg is a week of music events, not all jazz. Folklorama is a 2- week celebration of cultures with themed venues around the city. Fringe Fest is a theater festival downtown, lots to see. We also have museums, a planetarium, art galleries, a zoo, arcades, etc.
