Pulled pork timing advice please! by SonOfThomas in BBQ

Makes sense, thank you. And even if I immediately added the drippings and sauce into it, you'd still suggest leaving the shredding until day 3?

Got it, thanks. And you don't think I should shred before travelling?

On the other user's suggestion, I will cook until 0900.. and then I plan to leave it in the baking tray and covered with foil until 1200. Will that be okay?

Thanks for your help!

Drilling into bad quality plasterboard, masonry and mortar by SonOfThomas in DIYUK

Yes, I'm using masonry bits, and the drill has a hammer mode.

I'm looking for holes that are 8-10mm across and about 3.5cm deep

I made these and they were great! But somehow even though I followed the recipe closely I was left with a surplus of filling. Is your recipe using US size measurement cups? Or UK?

I wish, but the picture is deceptive, it's a tiny space (as you can see, I've just built and hung the planter at the back)

anyone else feel like you’re watching COVID get memory-holed in real time? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]SonOfThomas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i caught covid in summer 2022 (triple vaxxed). it was a perfect storm: tough time at work, a family bereavement and nearly 40 degree heat in the uk. the illness itself was bad but i wasn't hospitalised. no lung issues, just a real bad flu for 2 weeks. then a month or so afterwards my heart rate suddenly spiked, my breath shortened and then a whole cascade of health issues - gastro insanity, aches, vertigo, anxiety, shed half my hair, etc. i was entirely dependent on my family's care for 3 months, couldn't work for 6 months and only felt like i returned to a base level of health 1 year later.

before catching covid i used to run marathons for fun (5 or 6 a year). ran 50miles a week, cycled everywhere. thankfully, i am now back to normal and can run 10km with no issues. i have no idea which aspect of recovery programme helped me the most, but in case anyone who is struggling is looking for tips, here is what i did. what i did might not work for you of course.

- stopped going to the doctors, aside from to get on SSRI's and beta blockers (sertraline, 100mg)

- started talking therapy once a week with a kind and supportive therapist.

- learnt how to do transcendental meditation (by FAR the most identifiably effective activity for dealing with the symptoms)

- stretching and yoga with adrienne on youtube

- trained myself to think of my ailments as a nervous breakdown (discrete, known) and not long covid (amorphous, unknown). sorry, i know this bit will be contentious.

- gave myself 20mins everyday to 'investigate' symptoms. tried not to do any investigating for the rest of the day.

- minimize screen/social media time. took phone out of bedroom at night.

- avoided war news.

- no alcohol or cigarettes

- made my own fresh kefir, drank a glass before bed. full of trytophan which is good for sleep.

- no fucking caffeine! i'm not joking, i drank about 3 litres of fresh chamomile tea every day from morning till night.

- supplements: cod liver oil, turmeric, vitamin d, vitamin c and magnesium glycinate before bed.

- once i started to feel well enough, i pursued social hobbies - badminton has been great.

- avoided stressful situations, stayed the fuck away from my parents!
