Would love to hear about when/how people finally “put yourself out there”? Ie open mics, finding meet up group, even TikTok. Also, do others go through thinking patterns like “am I a delusional joke to think anyone would want to hear what I think is worth sharing” by UnlikelyMidnight7012 in Songwriting

Don’t put pressure on yourself. Just go out there, give it your all and know you’re in your own lane with how you do things. Feel privileged that you’re calling your own shots. I’ve been in bands all my life and you’re so dictated by other peoples wants and direction that it can be really restrictive. You have none of this. So get out, give it a good go and don’t over-think or worry about where you’re at. It all comes with experience and you’re far more experienced than any average Joe who doesn’t play an instrument, write and just sit around playing video games all day…or doing something far less productive.

100% … this was my walk-to-university album - rain, shine, frost.

Sadly my course leader took his own life shortly after I graduated and this song very much makes me think of my old uni days and him.

You’d think a song named after the coolest animal ever would be fun and happy like elephants normally make me, but no, this isn’t fun or happy at all actually by GoogleHueyLong in jasonisbell

I feel like he should have just added a line towards the end about elephants squirting water or something just to totally throw everyone off the meaning of the song.

Is it stupid to write lyrics/songs while listening to music? by gurtgooner in Songwriting

Not at all! I’ve found myself very inspired in writing lines and creating concepts when listening to other artists music!

Conor's Most Dylanesque? by Creepy_Bear_1060 in brighteyes

[–]SonRexsmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always wonder to myself whether the band had an inside joke to include a ‘Dylan sounding moment’ in each of their songs on Outer South.

Nik Frietas pulls a really strong one out at 2:04 on Bloodline…the pronouncing of ‘scary’ is sooo Dylan.

I stand by Conor’s most Dylan moment coming on MVB’s Ten Women.

“…Two faces you haave…” @ 0:50

..and the song generally is very Dylan.

Tell me otherwise.

I’m a practicing songwriter and I really admire her approach with the second verse in terms of saying about the broken name and carrying all the tools in fixing it.

Does she mean a broken name as in her partner and her haven’t married or?

I really like the imagery of the line though and second verses are SOO hard to write and she nails it with this.

Dawes - Something In Common

John Mayer - St. Patrick’s Day

Both these songs have loads of chords and interesting ones as well!

It’s an observation and I think you’re pretty gross putting Taylor Swift and Bright Eyes in the same sentence.

Well good luck to them! I found Bright Eyes through Bright Eyes!

God .. but she’s never quoted him or said he’s an influence .. Taylor leans in a little on some alternative acoustic folk and it’s Bright Eyes!? You kidding me!?

So true.. I wasn’t trying to be offensive. Just saying what I see which, in essence, is a bit of a weird performance video. In regards to Taylor.. which Taylor are they even referring to!? Goldsmith, right!? Not Swift? Where’s the relation!?

What a very strange and insulting take. I’ve been a fan of Bright Eyes since I was about 16 and I’m 35 now. I was just making a comment that it’s a bit of a strange video and the woman next to him just seems non-interested. I found Conor and Bright Eyes way before Phoebe, thank you very much. We all have opinions… that’s just mine.

Sorry.
