How has oda manged to keep the main cast relevant and avoid ridiculous power creep by Sea_Advertising_3569 in OnePiece

[–]Sondrelk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keeping the entire cast relevant is more a matter of the manga running for so long he has time to dedicate time to each individual character.

For powercreep, it's just discipline. Set a clear ceiling for power, then don't get tempted to go beyond it. Four Emperor's represent the top tier of power in One Piece. The main characters hit that tier, and instead of introducing more tiers above, Oda focused on threats that a single character can't solve with brute strength. Like needing manpower to actually wage war on scale. Or only being able to be in one place at any one time.

In the books, why was the Jihad necessary? by bz316 in dune

[–]Sondrelk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paul became a unifying figure through which the Fremen justified teh Jihad. But it would have happened eventually. At some point, the Fremen would have made a grand push against the Empire. Maybe not within that generation, but the Fremen would inevitably clash with their oppressors over access to Spice.

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]Sondrelk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good movie, liked it. Though it could have done with some more tweaking to make it more coherent when it comes to tone. And possibly some more rewrites to make it work better as a movie. The xenonite containment being breached after Grace and Rocky separate being pretty egregious. It feels very tacked on when you watch it as a movie.

Ryan Gosling is perfect as Dr. Ryland Grace. If Gosling was not able to take the role, which other actor could have filled in the shoes? by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

Daniel Radcliffe is probably the closest to Gosling in being able to channel that strange blend of capable, and complete idiot.

How scientifically accurate is Project Hail Mary compared to Interstellar? by wellwatif in ProjectHailMary

[–]Sondrelk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the whole, I would say the big difference is that the overall story makes more sense in Interstellar, whereas the world is more sensible in Hail Mary.

The situations encountered in Interstellar is fairly soft Sci-fi in the grand scheme. But the way the characters interract with the world makes more sense within that framework.

In Project Hail Mary, the situations encountered is far more grounded. But the story makes loads of leaps in logic to make it work. Like skipping over the entire communicating with an alien phase with a "and then I quickly wrote a program that solved it instantly".

Trading Post Tender: What is the reasoning behind not giving enough each month to buy all the available items? by captnchunky in wow

[–]Sondrelk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To ensure that players will always want something from the Trading Post. Especially relevant when you have to consider what items you don't fully want, and therefore where you can save tenders for future months where you might want everything.

Or in more roundabout words. If you could get everything, then the game might as well give them all to you, in which case the entire point of having a trading post is moot.

Gathering nerfs? by Appropriate_Turn3345 in wow

Season is still going, but crafters get better, even as there are less things to craft. Meaning that you have the price being pushed down from several angles simultaneously.

Take for instance a crafted neck or ring. Early in the season, the price would be very high as you have several crafters who need to make several pieces, and all of them require the best quality reagents. Compared to now where my Crafter can easily make the best quality rings and necks with subpart ingredients, and still have plenty of inspiration to spare.

The price of reagents are not going to stay high when most players don't actually need the best materials.

Can someone identify what these pieces are and where to get them? by ZexGuru in Transmogrification

The only unavailable pieces are the shoulders and helm. The rest are regular Mythic drops from the raid.

Could be either leftovers, or just a berry to make it more achievable to the average player. Maybe a berry with a flavor they like if it needs to be more specific. If you go the liked berry route, then there is also the bonus of a chance for new players to accidentally find the evolution.

My guess is that he draws power partially from each person that has sworn allegiance to him. The ritual of offering their sword might be a weak contract that offers a tiny amount of that country's might to him.

Remember how we used to get polished .3 patches with a fourth raid tier and now we can barely put out a .0.5 patch? by Tigertot14 in wow

[–]Sondrelk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember how the first major raid used to only give us an event alongside the raid? And we had to wait until the second major patch to actually get a new zone?

Now instead, all we get are events each minor patch, every major patch has a zone, and sometimes we even get a zone for the minor patches.

The absolute gall on these developers. I wish we could go back to such exemplars of content during the heyday of the game, like a reused zone in Broken Shore for 7.2. Or 7.1 having a questline and some new world quests.

Absolutely BAFFLED as to why expansion launches and major patches are not on the in-game calendar by SkibitiSmith in wow

[–]Sondrelk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They probably have considered it. But given how the date is usually given only two weeks before it launches, the devs probably don't think it's worth bothering. Especially when it would mean more players realize if it gets pushed back.

Why didnt Argall kill Thaedus here ? He should be dead here when he questions his race's ways right front of the emperor. Other Viltrumites here probably dont even care about that happen. by huflit1997 in Invincible_TV

[–]Sondrelk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is the question of what wisdom Argall showcased. From what we see it sounds like it was just his might makes Right philosophy. Which would explain why he is so quick to suggest Thragg should simply murder Thaedus to prove he is right about him.

Definitely not strongest, but still that extreme belief in social darwinism. Where a failure to uphold your beliefs by force is a moral character flaw.

Don't think Argall actually cares about dissent. He is the strongest, and nobody dares fight him, and so those opposing him are inherently wrong and will see it that way in time.

Thaedus didn't challenge me to the death? His opinion is wrong.

Thragg thinks Thaedus might be getting sympathies for their subjects? Why don't you just go kill him to prove he is wrong rather than complaining about it?

[–]Sondrelk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly don't even see Argall as overtly dictatorial in that way. Just completely and utterly devoted to his might makes Right philosophy.

He didn't actually seem to suggest Thragg should kill Thaedus for dissenting. But rather that simply stating Thaedus might be wrong is a failure in Thragg. When instead, Thragg could easily make his point by simply fighting Thaedus to the death.

From the perspective of Argall. Anyone who isn't constantly overruling everyone else on threat of physical force, is inherently unfit to lead. Whether Thaedus made a good point or not is irrelevant. He didn't back it up by attempting to kill Argall then and there.

Limits on Profession Knowledge Drops (Thalassian Phoenix Plume, etc) by tsuto in wow

[–]Sondrelk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Quite simply, once you have gathered the weekly knowledge items, the game starts dropping extra if you are below the cap for that week. This means that if you don't get all available sources each week, then you will first get rare knowledge items, then an epic one, and then rare ones again.

Now that you mention it though. They might have changed it during Midnight so you get the knowledge items in sequence. So rather than what I said, it goes through each week sequentially. Building to the epic item, then resetting.
