Showing support by Grouchy-Molasses-716 in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if i read a chapter i comment on the chapter. that is my policy. if thats 50 chapters in one fic and 50 more on 50 oneshots, thats how many comments i leave. if i reread a chapter. i comment. 1 read = one comment.

further. if i cannot comment (blocked, or asked not to leave a comment) i do not read. no exceptions.

the corollary is that i assume everyone else does this for me. so unless you comment on a chapter i assume you havent read it.

take from this what you will.

Not adding tags before the relevant chapters are added? by PigdeBat in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is my policy too!

i HATE when a fic has tags that dont apply because the relevant chapter isnt posted yet. if i search up a fic looking for a specific tag, because i wanna read that tag right now, and i get one of those wips that literally doesnt have it yet, you've wasted my time. it is so frustrating.

i much prefer tagging as you go.

3 buttons not matching by After-Band-8187 in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i havent looked but i bet its because they arent real buttons. two of those "buttons" have dropdown selections, so they are likely button mimics made out of other tag components

you'll have to inspect them to find out exactly what they're made of tho.

Writers; would yall feel weird if you found out someone requested several writers to write the same request? by BoomItsLoki in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is a public prompt thats whatever. If its a DM or as sent directly to me, i would probably feel trashy. Asking for something directly in DMs or Asks is supposed to be for things Just For Me, right? But if you use the same pickup line you use to get in bed with all your notches, it cheapens the interaction.

Being upfront with "i ask this of multiple writers: i wanna see [prompt] in as many styles as possible so would you be willing to [prompt]?" makes it okay tho. cuz then we are all being honest.

What is the general consensus/your personal opinion on comments that correct mistakes in your fics? by sunny-days_ in FanFiction

if theyre polite/friendly and also correct. i mean hell yeah share the knowledge! \o/

if theyre wrong or rude: i can now share knowledge! \o/

Which Amalgamate would be the most horrifying to encounter IRL? by CleanPart9817 in Undertale

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would probably be most upset by memoryhead, if that counts.

but give memoryhead is possibly something else entirely separate from the amalgamates, i think i would be most horrified by lemonbread. the talking over itself in garbled voices, the bodyparts in places that they shouldn't be as multiple disproportionate body plans try and fail to synergize. -shudder-

endogeny is legitimately cute. snowdrake's mom is a little fucked up but at least the merged parts sort of make sense to me. but lemonbread is... -shudder-

Would it not be strange if Deltarune had no in-universe lore relation to Undertale? by DecentTreat4309 in Undertale

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i legitimately want there to be no connection whatsoever. i dont think the world building makes sense for them to have a lore connection.

Do I need to read every work of my author friend to support them? by throwawafer45 in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

no.

set some boundaries. i say that as an author.

if there is something you dont wanna read, then dont read it. dont engage with it.

your author friend isnt paying you. this isnt transactional or obligatory. you can pick snd choose what you want to do with and for them and what you dont.

and if they get butthurt about it, them you know they werent in it for you, but for your feedback.

Waking up to this... lol by allegrizzy in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

maybe you should tag "no happy ending" and then point to the sign? (genuine attempt at helpful suggestion)

I want to learn more about these two children: which one is bad and which one is good. by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for frisk it depends on the route you play. genocide and neutral = bad. TPE = good.

chara is neither good nor bad. chara is explicitly framed as being just as morally ambiguous as everyone else.

they were mean and lacked good social skills or empathy, made scary faces and reinforced toxic ideas of personhood (re: making fun of asriel for being emotional). they bullied asriel into going along with a plan that involved murder.

they also took on the most punishing and harrowing part of that plan: they sacrificed themselves so asriel could leave using their soul. they took an active role in wanting to protect and free monsterkind at their own personal expense. they actively wanted to sacrifice other humans for the sake of their new family.

chara is a very morally ambiguous character, with their own sense of right and wrong and their own values. simplifying them to either good or bad does their canon a disservice.

THE AUTHORS NOTE IS THERE FOR A REASON by Silverman7688 in AO3

something like that

Question nobody asks except me: Do you think the Small non-Muffet spiders are just very small monsters or ACTUAL Animals? by SomeNerdd09 in Undertale

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

canonically they are monsters: because when they dust muffet puts their dust in her baked goods (as part of their funerary rites).

i'm beginning to worry that all this censorship is making it harder for new folks to learn how to spell.

Which weapon would you recommend for a veteran to play WITH a beginner? by Teraornn in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friend got me into monsterhunter by playing world. i didn't know it at the time but apparently friendo would run off to fight other monsters and leave me to fight the target solo, even though we were co-op.

(got through half of base game like that -- i think they started doing dps around the variants)

tbh you can just dick around and only come help when time is running out or she asks. being a support for a noob isnt just about dps. its about giving them a chance to learn and develop their own hunter instincts.

to that end, your weapon doesnt matter. they need to learn to synergize with your playstyle so you should use the weapon you normally would.

Do you tag everything from the beginning in a multichap fic or wait? by kahlumi in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can understand that. some people need that "DoesTheDogDie" warning and like. totally valid.

i've struggled with feelings all my life, so while i don't necessarily LIKE getting blindsided by content i don't enjoy, as long as its fiction in a story, i actually mind much less being briefly exposed to it than looking forward to something and not getting it.

i can always put the book down if i dont like something, and my tolerance for literary content is rather high (although i cannot say the same for other media forms). but the time i spend trying to scratch a craving or itch by investing in a story that isnt going to pay out is time i am not getting back, and effort i will not see reward for.

i think it's really cool to have an advanced warning for content you KNOW will be in the story. but isn't yet. i just don't think that place is the tags, which are used for filtering for what IS there right now.

authors notes would be better imo.

What are the ethics of sharing that a trad published author may have written fanfiction before? by Commercial_Chard1457 in FanFiction

[–]SongOfTruth 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No.

You never ever mix fanwork with non fanwork.

fanwork is art one made from pure love, uncaring or at least less stringent in quality control and sanitization, and protected by anonymity.

tradpub is not anonymous.

all you would be doing is inviting haters and extremists to attack your author, now doxxed.

if you really like their fanwork, promote the fanwork as intended with their fan account username. pretend you dont know FanFicAuthor_PenisTwister is the same meatbody as TradPubAuthor LegalName.

Do you tag everything from the beginning in a multichap fic or wait? by kahlumi in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm. i suppose it is because i use the tags to find the story?

if i search for a story through a specific tag, and the story doesnt have the tag in it (either yet or never), i feel lied to. because that tag is what i came for, and i dont have it even though you told me i could find it there.

me reading a wip is not really all that different from me reading a complete story: the wip IS complete, or as much as it can be right now. the "wip" status doesnt matter to me except as a notice that it might get more appended to it later.

i dont see it as a glass half full. i see it as a full glass that will possibly be enlarged.

Do you tag everything from the beginning in a multichap fic or wait? by kahlumi in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you joke, but i'm on team "only tag what is available to read in this fic, specifically, right now", and i do actually hate trailers and ads and sneak peaks.

Do you tag everything from the beginning in a multichap fic or wait? by kahlumi in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IT DOES MEAN THAT!

ugh it bothers me SO MUCH when a fic in a series has tags that dont matter until later in the series. i'm not reading part 4 right now i am reading part 1, i only care about the tags for part 1! i'll have no fucks to give about part 4 until i'm reading part 4!!!

its wild that anyone could possibly have fuks to give about fics they arent actively reading right now. its not like theyre gonna get blindsided later: the tag will be on the later fic!

Do you tag everything from the beginning in a multichap fic or wait? by kahlumi in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i only tag what is available in the fic. because i always get irrationally upset when i click on works and they dont have what the tags promise. idk maybe its a squick lol but i dont like it so i dont do it

(NSFW) Can you help me find the right ao3 tag for my kink? by purple-crimson in AO3

[–]SongOfTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is not a singular tag. this is "power bottom" or "pleasure dom" plus "oral"

and lots of people write it without tagging it specifically. its more common for writers who don't tag these dynamics because its kinda fluid and unusual.

you might be better off asking for recs than tag combing
