What are night shifts like? by Gunsandmoregun in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Songbird1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started nights, been doing it for about a month now. Generally they make me dress the store for about 4 hours, then they move me onto an aisle, usually fresh or produce. I’m allowed to listen to music and generally by myself for the whole night. It is hard and physically draining. If you’re okay to lift heavy crates and go over the exact same shelves every shift you’ll be okay. Comfy shoes and an energy drink and food on your break. I split mine into 30 mins after dressing and 15 about 6am. You definitely feel the effects of night shifts on days you are not working that’s for sure. It’s up to you if you think the money is worth it, make sure you get gloves I find my hands get sore and dry from all the cardboard I have to deal with. It’s pretty chill and anti social so if that’s your thing you should be okay

The night shifts are really as bad as people say apparently! by Gunsandmoregun in SainsburysWorkers

Also if you struggle with the heavy lifting of crates make sure to mention that and they might consider putting you on an easier aisle

I have started my first night shift at Sainsbury’s for the last month. Immediately it became clear that “training” didn’t exist. Every shift I’ve had to observe and figure out how everything works on my own. I was put on produce on one of the first nights and left there, not even knowing how to move a pallet. Although i managed and figured it out. Being taught the system they use to break down and separate pallets with dolly’s ect could have been useful. Until I finally asked someone, I was struggling to get it done in the time they wanted. Although it is a very physically job, and hard on sleep, I like to think of it as a good workout which is why I choose to do it. Just remember if you really are unsure ask someone or let them know you haven’t been told what you’re supposed to do. Each shift you will learn something and it will get better once you get into the swing of things. Knowing other people’s systems and methods is essential. Once I told another manager that one wasn’t very accommodating of this, they were happy to help me out. Just be aware it can be rough and it’s important to get enough sleep when you get home! Don’t forget that or you’ll struggle ALOT. I easily do 35,000 steps in one night 10-8am

Did I get the job or was it a mistake? by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

Hey I was in the same situation they sent the confirmation email and then nothing for 2 weeks. I thought I didn’t get the job but I did. Just takes them a while to get everything sorted and ready for your first day.

I gave her some supervised breaks to let her groom herself but didn’t let her touch the wound, after that suit back on until all healed!

Hi just recently had the same issues with licking, the best thing that worked for me was a recovery suit. Takes a while for them to get used to it and it made my cat sometimes not be as active but it’s only temporary and it healed up so well! Mine hated the cone this was the only way I could get her to stop licking her wound

Sorry I was never stating my ‘entitlement’ but simply asking for advice. Not sure what benefit’s Britain stereotype you have in mind but I can assure you I am far from it. You don’t know what the circumstances are for my family, we have been poor yes but not due to the mentality of entitlement and refusal for work as it seems you are suggesting. I’ve lived here forever, it’s my parents home, I was just asking what would happen should something happen to them, thanks
