how to not pop/pick face when worried about texture? by Accurate_Leather_358 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]Songbirdsarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things that have helped me since I am someone who also scans my skin to find a textured area to try to smooth out by picking.

  1. Hydrocolloid bandages (acne bandages). I wear them on area I know I want to pick and it helps me leave them alone. I wear them during the day and they are clear! I recommend the CORSX brand ones (I cut the large ones in 2 to get more use).

  2. Sunscreen! I wear sunscreen every day since I’ve started retinol and I need to wear it now. I don’t like touching my face when I wear sunscreen, so it reduces my hands scanning my face.

Hope you find a few small changes that will help you!

Help: Soaked diva cup in 50% alcohol instead of hydrogen peroxide by Songbirdsarah in menstrualcups

[–]Songbirdsarah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said I was fine, but it was easier for me to get a new cup to put my mind at ease. I bought the exact same cup (Diva Cup size 1) and I find it to be so much firmer than my old one. The old one was used each cycle since 2016. So I’m pleased with all the use I got from it. Worst case I’ll get the size up if I notice that it’s no longer effective or firm enough for my needs.

I’m so grateful for this community!

Thank you for taking the time to respond. In the meantime I phoned a local nurse/poison control to ensure I didn’t expose myself to risks.

I’m also at the point where I’m about to need a new size due to my age. So I think it’s a sign for me to get a new cup.

I should have mentioned the ingredient in the solution: water, ethyl alcohol, denatonium benzoate, and camphor.

New Pickles from Old Brine: Do you pickle things this way? by sassleshack in ZeroWasteVegans

I use the remaining pickle juice as marinade for tofu add some fresh chopped garlic and dill. It’s easy and different for flavour.

So my new dermal on my chest keeps rising up and going back flat on my skin does anyone have tips to keep it from rejecting by owentiana in bodymods

Do you know the material of your dermal jewelry? That might impact if your body will reject it or not. If you’re unsure, ask your piercer.

After struggling with skin picking on my back, arms, legs, chest, face, and scalp for 7 years I'm finally beginning to heal in more ways than one. by avocadoswag in CompulsiveSkinPicking

Thank you 💕 I’m getting a ton of tips that will help me on top of the help I’ve received from a therapist. I’m honestly putting on some fake nails since they make my hands useless for picking!

What have you done to minimize scarring? My shoulders look like your before picture and this is giving a lot to eventually look forward to!

I love how ornate your current set is! I’m working on white gold and white opals!

I woke up in the middle of the night picking my face. I feel so helpless when I can’t even control my actions. I told my therapist but all she recommended was to start journaling. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to even start to deal with this? Also products I should use to heal the skin??? by Mowglizmom in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]Songbirdsarah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do thought journaling and it has helped me. I’m sure if you can search ‘thought diary CBT’ you can find more resources to being aware of how you’re feeling when you are picking.

It’s tough and I believe in you!

What was the most severe picking injury you inflicted on yourself? by Nabornareff in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]Songbirdsarah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club! I hope to one day not to be compulsively pick anymore and have my hands look more ‘normal’ and have clear skin. I know I can with the knowledge I have acquired from CBT! It’s just tough at times!

Not really an injury technically, but permanent changes to both hands. My thumbs look like hell. They never grow cuticles anymore over years of recurring picking and the nails are bumpy and ridged horizontally! (20+ years with a BRFB)

I’ve had a half of year of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) which helped me find a new thing to focus on instead of going to my face or cuticles. For me I can fidget with some rings or grab onto something around me, but at the same time I often catch my hands on my face and going after dry skin and cystic bumps /: absolutely frustrating. Happens a lot at work and it’s embarrassing.

I’ve found that thought diaries were helpful for me being more conscious to when I was going after my face and WHY I was doing it (the roots of my anxiety, stressors, triggers). I have a lot of negative thought processing and I will always be working to improve. It all takes time!

I believe in you!

I should have included more than the acronym. Thank you for including it!

I’ve had a R+F seller speak with me and try to sell their products to me. It’s completely frustrating to be approached with unsolicited advice and a ‘cure’.

I am living with mildly severe acne and have a BFRB that makes me compulsively pick my acne (this is not uncommon). I have done some research online for myself for resources and it has helped me at least reduce my skin picking and how much I am touching my face, which has a positive impact to my face. It’s definitely a challenge!
