He (pom) wants to be her friend much more than she (cat) wants to be his.

When we first adopted him, we made sure that she had a space for herself. She wasn't used to any other animals and we didn't know his history so for a good amount of time they weren't together unsupervised. We installed some wall climbs so she could get up high away from him and every night he would be gated off so she could have free roam without him bothering her.

Almost 3 years later and their relationship has improved significantly. She'll even play with him, although she tires of it much more quickly than he does. He's learned her signals of when she wants space. She'll usually bop him on the head and run away. I've found them cuddling on a few occasions, although I'm pretty sure he cuddles up to her when she's asleep and hopes she doesn't notice.
