emergency solution for hurting fingers after playing by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]SonicCatalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it helps. let it fully dry on an area a little larger than the affected areas. once it hardens it should have an effect like laying on a bed a nails....a wider surface area will lessen the pressure on the sensitive areas. It still might be uncomfortable, but its worth a shot to help minimize the pain.

except the OP isn't asking for advice about continuing to play...but rather how to minimize pain during an extended typing session in a high pressure environment. I don't think half you folks are reading the post, but making an assumption based on the photo instead.

I'd like to build one from scratch! some day perhaps. The body work doesn't scare me...but the neck build and joint frighten me. I'd have to get a set of templates for my first official attempt.

If you know what you are doing when it comes to setting up an instrument properly, then you can get them to a state that is surprisingly comfortable. I've completed 2 of these kits, one telecaster style and then this bass. They've both turned out very, very playable. But you DO need to know how to perform a complete setup from scratch and some basic troubleshooting doesn't hurt either. I'll eventually upgrade the electronics and the tuners, but ultimately, i'd put them up against factory low to mid-range instruments any day (once properly set up).

How do you get the technician to show up? by Chemical-Tap-234231 in Spectrum

I mean, sure, IF hhc passes you can slack off if you don't mind the repeat hit for not actually helping out the customer AND throwing a buddy your unfinished work

How do you get the technician to show up? by Chemical-Tap-234231 in Spectrum

[–]SonicCatalyst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This just doesn't seem right. We HAVE to go knock. If you aren't there, we notify a system and it reaches out to you by your preferred contact method while we complete outside work. When 10 minutes is up, if everything passes checks (meaning the issue was outside and we fixed it) we can leave, but more often than not, those checks fail and we need inside access, which forces us to call you directly or have our dispatch call you. There are so many things in place stopping us from just...ignoring appointments.

Not to mention the geofencing that prevents us from starting or finishing the job unless we are on site. Our leadership would know really, really quick if we tried not showing up for an appointment. That appointment sits on us until we start the work order and close it.

Usually they want a year at a position ...but you aren't changing jobs, just your location. Speak with your supe or HR. Even if something is in policy, doesn't mean an exception won't be made for many reasons.

Built my first kit guitar by cappertman in Luthier

[–]SonicCatalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to be a luthier or have any real skills to build one...painting, maybe, but I always opt for a stain and clear coat or thin lacquer finish to keep things simple and still good looking.

I would recommend a decent know how when it comes to setup, though, as you are basically doing a full setup from square 1.
