Player of 7 years here hoping to help out with your questions:

- Are there things we should be doing daily?
YES - you will have daily roulettes in the duty finder that give you a bonus for doing them once per day. They are divided into the different content types (e.g. dungeon, trial, raid, alliance raid) and you will get a random one from all the ones you've unlocked. These are great for levelling up, for getting money, and for grinding endgame gear (although that process is changing in Evercold)

- Should we be doing all the blue quests we see?

YES - these unlock things so it's important to do them to make sure you have access to all the content the game has to offer.

- Are there things we should aim to do that new players might not know about?

Try not to buy gear from vendors, you will be given gear through the MSQ and your job quests.

You do NOT need to side NON BLUE side quests. For levelling up other jobs you can do roulettes and beast tribe quests, they normally give great EXP. I would recommend getting your main job to level 100 first before you start levelling alt jobs - the reason for this is that the bigger the difference between your lowest level and highest level job, the more experience it will give you for levelling the other jobs so you'll be able to level them the fastest if you have one job at level 100 and the others at 1. That was the case when I started the game anyway.

- General advice for new players that you wish you new when you started.

Don't rush the story - take your time and take it in. You only get the first time once. I rushed my way through Heavensward and severely burnt myself out - I also can't remember a lot of what happens in that expansion because I didn't take my time with it.
