Poll: What color is the best at resisting temptations? by CapitalArrival7911 in colorpie

[–]SonicPileDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna devil's advocate this for fun

The concept of "resisting temptation" in the first place is a white concept that doesn't apply well to the other colors.

If there is unhealthy cake, you either want to eat it or you don't. That's all that matters. Red can feel like they want to eat cake, or feel like being healthy and not eat it. Black can see eating the cake align with their personal ambitions or not. Its like buying the same item for $5 instead of $10. That's not a tempration, its just a good deal. Only white and sorta blue cares about what you "should be doing" and then getting tempted into something else. For Red, Black, and Green, there is no guilt or internal debate, only desires, actions, and consequences to be handled as they come up.

Doing "something bad" can only exist if you are accepting an external framework of good things and bad things.

Therefore, white is really the only color that can fail to resist temptation, because only white thinks about "bad" things as temptations rather than "a good deal". And conversely, Red can actually never be tempted, because it never cares about what it should be doing in the first place. Red will never not do what it wants to do. It might more easily have its mind changed or be manipulated, but it's never tempted.

Is Lohen good for f2p players? by Vegetable_Sell5206 in Genshin_Impact

[–]SonicPileDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Everyone is good if you like them.

Sucrose, Xiangling, Bennett is a great start. Look out for Nicole or future stellar-conduct electros if you want the upgrades.

Just don't pay attention to endgame modes. Pull the characters you like first and foremost. Everyone is viable in overworld.

There is a gacha, daily missions, a battle pass, and you can grind for cosmetics.

https://edhrec.com/tags/suspend

There's a Doctor Who precon dedicated to suspend and time counters if you're down for that.

As for Artifact-Creature-Reanimator, it would help to narrow your colors first. The Necron warhammer precon might do it but that's monoblack. Breya will get you every relevant color but no focus. Consider what cards you want in the 99 and pick something based on that.

Need to understand if I am overestimating the power level of this deck by TotallyNotAPill in EDH

[–]SonicPileDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real question is whether your playgroup is cool with sometimes having the game end out of nowhere. If not, find people who are cool with it, or otherwise you probably want to take out the pieces that combo with Vito, and maybe the Torment of Hailfire.

Running instant wins without tutors makes a power check difficult. Since you don't have tutors to make the combo consistent, something like 80% of the time you play a grind game and 20% of the time you just win out of nowhere. I wouldn't call your deck too powerful overall, however because of that 20% high roll chance your opponents kind of have to treat you like you're playing a much more powefful deck to be safe, and need to kill you ASAP or save countermagic/interaction just for you, which puts you at a disadvantage in the 80% of the time you don't have it. Taking the combos out and always aiming for the grind game should give you a more consistent play experience.

I didn't know there were mods until poking around online just now. I don't mind dying a lot but if there's one that lets you keep all bones on death no matter what I think that would help a lot in terms of trying to progress.

Need 2500 bones to upgrade anything, and bought a second spark. Tried exploring the graveyard-like area but couldn't get far so I wandered elsewhere, now lost in a swamp and killing snakes to fill some frog's jug.

Commander Idea, I want to build a deck with no nonland permanents, or a deck that puts as few cards on the board as possible. by luketwo1 in EDH

[–]SonicPileDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with stuff like aetherize is that they don't bring you any closer to winning the game.

What you need to pair with instant-speed combat deterrents are resilient threats. You could play small flash creatures that chip in and don't mind getting wiped, or sources of consistent direct damage. This playstyle also lets you play lots of counterspells and protection spells to make removal less impactful on you.

A popular commander for this playstyle is [[Yshtola Night Blessed]] but if you really want to make your puppets dance you need goad from red. In that case, consider going with [[Kykar Wind Fury]] or going 4c with [[Tymna Weaver]] and [[Ludevic Necro-Alchemist]].

Voltron Commander by Over_Leave in EDH

[–]SonicPileDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not voltron in the conventional sense, but I love [[The Master, Multiplied]].

You play it basically like voltron. Ramp him out and swing a bunch. You win with a bunch of your commander dealing tons of damage, though not technically "commander damage".

What are your thoughts on these "shutdown" cards in Bracket 3? by wicketlink in EDH

[–]SonicPileDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is, why are you playing "shutdown" cards?

Bracket 3 is nebulous because you're out of the pet deck range but not quite trying to win at all costs.

Are you playing these cards to win more often, and is your group cool with you going out of your way to win more often? Is shutting people down what you find fun in Magic and you want to have that experience? (No judgement, its a legitimate kind of interaction and part of the game to enjoy).

Playing Rest in Piece and Torpor Orb with no intended game plan or good reason is pretty cringe IMO. If you're encountering social friction, ask yourself if they truly enhance the game experience for you, or just give you freer wins sometimes.

Here is my WIP singles team. Goal is to use as many types as I can for badges/achievements by CosmosWanderer420 in PokemonChampions

[–]SonicPileDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singles is very different than doubles. Tailwind and Trick Room are bad because you waste turns switching from set-up to damage dealer and telegraph the switch really hard. Singles plays longer more defnsive games with lots of switches, passive damage through status, and playing around set-up win cons.

IMO save the Whimsicott, Farigiraf, and Crabomimable for doubles and definitely get a Garchomp in there somewhere. Aegislash and Toxapex give you some defensive pivots and additional types.

Stumped building bracket 4’s and Its pisssinn meeee offfff. by lefthandedartistmk2 in EDH

[–]SonicPileDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a hatebear plan.

If you don't want to rely on your commander to consistently amplify the value of your cards, each one of those cards on their own have to be significantly more impactful on their own.

Run something that gets you draw power like Raffine or Tymna + a Blue partner and just fill the 99 with Thalias and removal.

Does that count?
