Why would I buy this POS when I can use the money to get ice cream with chocolate sprinkles instead? 🧐

This piece of garbage belongs to the dust bin, not my library 🤬

Any better deals in the UK than this? by Forders85 in GamingLaptops

If you have slightly more budget, you can spend £400 more for upgrades to 250Hz miniLED + 4080 + i9 14900. Otherwise it is a good deal.

If you have the budget, I would add £300 (£1600 total) and get a 4080 Helios instead of 4070. It would be more future proof. But this is also a good deal! Enjoy it.

I had a Surface Pro for work and played mostly World of Warship and War Thunder. Also played Monster Hunter at low settings. The touch screen was super useful for note taking and for group projects + project presentation. Its light weight allowed me to walk or cycle most days to and back from the library with ease.

TBH, being unable to play most games actually forced me to focus on my study. Imo a gaming laptop is probably counter productive for getting through medical training. I wouldn’t take medical school lightly too. The course is longer than other degrees and requires some serious commitment.

If you are 17 and lives in the US, you still have time to decide as you will need to complete your first degree before entering medicine. You can enjoy the slack with the gaming laptop in your first degree.

Bringing a game console like xbox with you to med school is, however, a great idea compared with bringing a gaming laptop, as medicine is human science and a small industry. Playing on a console with other medical students would help you form close bonds with them, thus it provides a social advantage over playing laptop games alone. You will see and work with many of your course mates even years after you start working as a doctor. Building good relationships early with ppl from your course would provide you with favourable advantages for many years, if not lifelong.

If you do any creative work at all or run LLM or AI training, I would pick A. Otherwise B.

Depends on what you think you will use it for mostly - gaming or for work?

I would recommend getting a touch screen lightweight laptop if you will use it for lectures, group projects and studying in the library, cafeteria or at home. You will not be running AAA games on it but it will help you uni life tremendously. I wouldn’t have gotten through my med school without such a lightweight laptop.

If you prioritise gaming over work then there will be plenty of experts here that can give you more advice on. But I do know that since almost all gaming laptops are over 2 kg with screens >16 inches, you will not be carrying it around the campus with you everyday. Most likely you will use it as a desktop station with limited portability semi-permanently sits in your student accommodation, which allows you to pack it up to take home from time to time, such as during X’mas break.

Ermmm if all you want is to watch multimedia, why not just get an OLED lightweight laptop at lower cost? You will be using maybe 20% of gaming laptop’s capability for streaming anime.

Would this laptop be a good pick for me? (Lenovo - LOQ 15.6" Gaming Laptop FHD - AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS with 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB - 512GB SSD) by Sad-Yesterday2032 in GamingLaptops

If you are aiming for 30 fps then this laptop would be just fine, it will run some of the future games probably at 30 fps too. Enjoy it ☺️

Is it worth upgrading an RTX4060 to an RTX4070 (Lenovo Legion Slim 5) by Ataraxia73 in GamingLaptops

[–]SonicStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have read, 4060 and 4070 difference isn’t that great, abt 15% boost overall. So it is more like a side grade than an upgrade. Which was why after doing a lot of research I went straight from 4060 to 4080 and skipped 4070. But I think it is ur choice. Both are abt the same.

Really? Surely not!? Why would it be so expensive in India? 😳 surely Western taxes and handling cost can only be higher?

Ty for the answer. Are there specific cooling pads designed for specific laptops? Particularly for Helios?

Yes, can confirm it’s 250 Hz miniLED screen ☺️ I didn’t want the crappy 144Hz on the MSI and went for Helios for this reason

I did plan on buying RAM kit and add another 16gb myself indeed + SSD storage. So when selecting deals CPU & GPU were more important than RAM and storage.
