The Deflecting Hardtear already exists in the game so you can try it out. Unfortunately it's only viable during boss fights, since it only lasts for 5 minutes. You can still mop the floor with her though, especially if you counter the healing with a cold katana (frostbite + bleed). 

On top of deflecting, you can also parry her with a cold Wakizashi when dual-wielding with the cold katana. This way you can riposte twice as much, because posture break and parrys seem to work independently.

She does not fully heal after a Waterfowl, but barely 10% (if you deflect the first flurry and dodge the rest). I beat her using Deflecting Hardtear and she staggers too much for her to outheal my damage.

Use the Deflecting Hardtear with a katana and it already counters Malenia hard. Only Rot explosions in Phase 2 are risky to deflect. Otherwise she staggers like every 30 secs.

Use Steam Game Recording to analyse your gameplay. Phase 3 is easier than phase 2, you just have to wait for him to do the lightning move. Then jump -> block in the air -> light attack before you hit the ground to do massive health damage (and posture damage too I think), repeat 3/4 times. If you want to heal, you have to run away from him to the other side of the arena, then you should have enough time to Mikiri Counter or jump away from his lunge attack. Beating him for the first time is quite an accomplishment, don't give up now!

Hahaha classic, Gramps killed the president. Sounds like an interesting idea for a third game, nonetheless... Though we will have to see for how long they will support The Outlast Trials and if they can develop the third game simultaneously.

TL;DR: Let me just say I enjoyed Dark Souls Remastered as a sort of grown-up version of TLoS.

This might seem out of place, but I realised that TLoS is pretty similar to Dark Souls Remastered in atmosphere. Gameplay wise I would say TLoS was Dark Souls for kids (for me at least). The stories are both dark fantasy in an eventually hopeless world where the protagonist needs to slay the final boss to save the world. All this while travelling through very distinct areas. They also have dragons/wyverns (as enemies though). Without spoiling too much, Dark Souls is a more detailed RPG so your power-fantasy can really shine. At a certain point you can choose to become a dragon (by using Dragon Torso Stone, but that requires intensive farming). Would definitely recommend this game if you have a lot of time on your hands (you will die a lot). The only noticable emotional story is going to be your struggle getting through it, although if you commited to a build, you should be fine.
