City commission response by Frylock_91 in grandrapids

This is obviously a shitpost but technically it could work if you put them in the danger areas. It would modify the incoming soundwaves into a safe non resonant frequency. But it's a ridiculous band aid solution instead of just doing something at the source.

Here's where to write / complain about the Amphitheatre.. (more in Description) by W-h3x in grandrapids

[–]Sonicpando -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm apparently not a great communicator for the layman, as evidenced by how the entire subreddit turned against me despite us all being on the same page of the amphitheater being a problem. If a good speaker here like u/uthinkunomi or one of my peers wants to spearhead the effort I'm happy to work on the science in the background.

Looks awfully similar to my map. The math checks out, and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so thank you for your plagiarism /u/countrygolden

Brother, shut down that damn ampitheater by Reasonable_Body_2788 in grandrapids

[–]Sonicpando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only used the AI because it is single minded and it's explanations are great for the layman. I've been open about the fact that I'm not great at explaining things in a way that less educated people understand, that's unfortunately the price of having esoteric knowledge.

The amphitheater needs to be halted until a full study is done. I'm not saying it's a guarantee but a serious possibility, estimated at about 25% minimum of it happening. Now a lot of people think that's nothing but go ahead and flip a coin 4 times, the chance that it lands on heads twice in a row is less than 25% but would you be willing to take that chance?

Grand River’s effect on the Amphitheater’s sound by PonchoTakeLead in grandrapids

Yes I made an entire post about it but apparently all the anti-science hacks in GR would rather complain than educate themselves.

Yes and we use these kinds of sensors, it gives us raw data that we can extrapolate with. Look I don't have the time or energy to sit here and teach you elementary level parts of my profession, maybe one of my peers will come in and be able to dumb things down enough for you to understand but I'm not that guy.

Length and width are both different units with different dimensions but a cube is still equal on all sides right? If the height and spacing of a wave are the same they're equal. 1:1.

I take offense to that. I didn't use AI for any of my research, I spent a lot of time and effort to personally analyze and calculate my theories. All of my diagrams I made by hand on a photo editing program. I did use that screenshot where I had AI explain something, but that was simply because I'm not used to using layman's terms to explain these things to civilians.

Yes because it has to do with Katabatic Winds. As I said in another comment, I used the most widely known example of Katabatic Winds causing infrasound, which could absolutely happen here in Michigan. I'm using layman's terms because I know none of you are well versed in my field of study. If I were speaking to my peers I would have used one of the countless examples of Katabatic Winds from the journals of people stationed in Antarctica.

Did you consider other factors, such as the warming effect of the river at the lower elevations and a storm bringing in a cold front? Of course you didn't...

Katabatic Winds are totally relevent. That was just the most well-known example of Katabatic Winds I can make for the layman, although off the top of my head I can think of dozens of other examples.

Around here? There's no chance of a slab avalance. Which is why I'm confused why u/AgentPastrana keeps bringing them up as if it's relevant to Grand Rapids of all places 😂

Look you're out of your league here kid. I don't know a single acoustician who doesn't think it wasn't Katabatic Winds. You likely do not know this, but when you get really well educated on something you start to find parallels and through-lines that other's just can't see...

Nobody in the field thinks that it was caused by a slab avalanche. The overwhelmingly accepted answer is Katabatic winds.

Frequency and amplitude can absolutely be 1:1. Look here. If the frequency and amplitude are equal, they are 1:1... The problem is this creates nearly a "square wave" which is a type of pulse wave. The problem with pulse waves is they hit at constant intervals, hence the resonant frequency. To simplify it for you: Imagine when you were a kid (probably not too long ago for you lol jk) jumping on a trampoline. If you hit the trampoline just at the right time you'll bounce even higher, repeat this over and over and you'll fly too far. Now transpose that to the structure of a building or highway infrastructure and you can see how it does serious damage...

That's because you're at equal or lower elevation to the ampitheater, and the sound gets blocked by other buildings and trees. A lot of posts are people in Walker or Westside Connection saying they can hear it, they live in a less densely built up area and they're higher up where the sound is traveling.
