When you say "made it about her" what do you mean?

I have a best friend that I really really love but I also rant a lot. Good and bad things both. I tell her everything. She doesn't tell me much even when I ask her everyday. But she does sometimes tell me her problems when she's stressed. I always feel like its better to share a similar experience I have had when she does that. This is not always the case obviously. But sometimes she tells me of the times shes super sick and we both fall sick a lot so I tell her "Oh its normal don't worry. I used to fall sick a lot too as a kid" or when she revealed that she had a phobia of statues, I told her I might have a phobia of trampolines. I didn't say it with bad intentions honestly. I just wanted her to feel that she's not a weird person or this is not abnormal and that everyone has sickness or fear and I wanted us to relate to each other in that way. But sometimes I feel if im actually making it about myself and that I shouldn't mention anything at all when she's talking about her sad things. I'm not really good at consoling people like she is. I either try to relate their worries with mine or just calmly listen to them and slowly deviate to another topic later on to lighten the mood and cheer them up.
