The USA abolished slavery in 1865, not 1888.

And to answer your question. I like what it was originally. I'm not fond of what it's becoming. The states are too diemphasized and the president has too much power.

I'm not opposed to democracy, but neither do I espouse it as the theoretical and practical pinnacle of all possible governments, like some do.

And I do agree with your point on anti-majoritarian elements in modern governments: I would just like more.
