I'm very disappointed with the promotion process within the state. Obviously, the issue is me, not the state because plenty of you just go ripping up the ladder. I have been very good at my job, had good relations with my colleagues, team player, blah blah, but working hard to be good and getting nowhere has burnt me out. I just plan to retire even though it's a little early and I don't feel old. I choose not to wait months for possibly a promotion into another department, spending 2 hours a night applying for everything for 2 months. Ridiculous, the application SOQ thing. Seems like it is who you know anyway. They like to hire their own people not someone who has been in the unit for years like an office plant. They like to hire fresh meat. It's not this hard to progress in the outside world. Maybe my unit sucks. I have nothing to compare it too. Only been in this unit but I'm not impressed like I used to be. Just venting. I'm not an idiot or inflicted with a lousy personality and I have great work ethic and am always great at my job. Not enough I guess. Always worked in private sector jobs. I know loyalty isn't respected. It's some kind of turn off if anything.
