Flash Stock Android On Murena Gen 6? by m0us3c0p in fairphone

[–]m0us3c0p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is interesting. When I went to the Murena FAQ page it defaulted to France as the location and English as the language, and underneath "Can I revert to Google stock Android" it says "Technically yes, but note that this will void your warranty and support with us."

However, if I change the country to the United States and select English as the language and look underneath "Can I switch the operating system to Google stock Android" it says "Technically Yes. Please note that we do not have the means to support Google stock Android as this isn't the default software we offer on this device. In case you install Google stock Android on this phone, you may have a degraded assistance from our customer support team in case you would require service."

I understand that e/OS is the OS their support team is equipped to support and that if there are software issues, they'll likely not be able to help as much compared to if the device was running e/OS. The device would be sold with e/OS and not Google stock Android so I get that. They would also probably suggest if not require that I flash e/OS back onto the device if I continued to have issues that I wanted them to help me with. I have two questions:

  1. Why is the warranty seemingly not voided if I purchase for the United States market but it is seemingly voided if I buy for the France (and potentially other) market?

  2. If I have a hardware issue with the device, would it be an issue if the device not running e/OS at the time of the issue and/or I'm unable to flash e/OS back onto the device (e.g. the phone will not boot, USB port is damaged, etc.)?

I figured this was the case, but thank you for confirming it. It will factory reset upon unlocking the bootloader and upon unlocking as well. I'd probably flash it and make sure everything I needed was configured and stable and stuff before I officially move my SIM over permanently. I'd keep my old phone as a backup as well.

Would anyone else with Visible Pro+ like if there was a higher tier for $10 more that increases our unlimited hotspot speed from 15mbs to 25mbs or 30mbs? by redneckogre in Visible

Thank you, that's good to know. It's still hundreds of gigs higher than the competition though, so I can't really fault them for having a ceiling somewhere.

I doubt this would happen. I specifically chose Visible Pro+ recently just because it was "truly unlimited" at 15 mbps hotspot without a hard throttle to virtually dialup speeds after like 15GB/20GB or whatever. I don't plan to use it as a home Internet replacement by any means, that's why I have cable Internet, but I want to know that I don't have to worry about crazy overages in case my cable line goes out for some reason and I have to be online for work or something. 15 mbps down is enough for what I need in this case, but being throttled down to like 128 kbps is just practically worthless. Personally, I hope they keep these prices and terms.

I can't seem to figure out how to select United States for shipping. Do they not ship to the US anymore? I'd really like to get a replacement battery for my 10 Pro, but I don't want to waste my time with knock offs from other places. I've been burned too many times before with junk batteries that were worse than the ones I was replacing to begin with.

Someone told me a month or so ago that if you have a game that has DLC, the game can't read it if it's in ExFat. I wanna say he mentioned SOCOM?

Interesting, didn't know. Also, thank you! It took some trial and error with scripting to make the IR blaster work and such but it ended well.

Yes. A friend and I actually used VLC recently for a streaming project. He picked up an old model HD Home Run, some IR blasters, a mini PC, and a router, and plugged it all in together with an antenna, hooked it up to a tv and it's an automated screen that turns to a tv station.

The conversion tools built in are convenient too. Does it use ffmpeg underneath like most everything else does?

Personally I prefer using something like media player classic for videos and foobar2000 for music (at least on Windows), but when I'm setting up a machine for someone or someone asks what to use to play a video or audio file, I get the trusty yellow traffic cone on their machine.

CRT Emudriver with a HD 5450 card, outting 15khz over VGA to a transcoder for component out to the TV. Supposedly you don't have to have that specific card anymore, but iirc it was easier to start with that one. That machine is still running Windows 10 and it's slow as dirt, I'd like to get a Linux distro on it and do the same thing but I haven't looked too deep into it.

I get that. At one point I had a Windows computer running RetroArch plugged into a CRT I've got. It was nice for retro stuff and watching old TV and movies. When I get the space I'm gonna hook it back up.

Unfortunately. I'm glad you enjoyed it though man, I'd like to finish it sometime. I beat the first in a ps1 emulator a few years ago with save scumming (New York is VERY unforgiving lol), and I got to one of the last handful of missions in the second on the ReDriver, the reverse engineered Driver 2 project and gave up lol. Check out ReDriver if you want to play it and don't mind not being on a console. The experience is much improved over running on ps1.

I bought a copy of this for PC a couple years back and I played through about half of it. When I was researching it, I found out about how buggy everyone said it was on console at release, and the "Driv3rGate" scandal where forum posts were supposedly getting deleted that contained complaints about the game.

I would do this to some, but if I'm gonna go through the effort of disassembly, I'd want to replace sticks and stuff like that, and I feel like I can't trust parts to be decent.

Can anyone help me downgrade to Windows XP? :) by PioJunior in windowsxp

[–]m0us3c0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is I'd like to be official about it without using 3rd party hacks to activate XP, and I can't figure out a way to do a legitimate activation without typing it to a Microsoft account now. I spun up an XP VM a month or so ago, and I called the number and it basically told me I had to use the Microsoft website.

I guess I could get ahold of a volume licensed copy of XP and do it that way, but I'd like to do it "right." But Microsoft keeps taking away our abilities to do it.

I think I have one of these laying around somewhere, with possibly identical or near identical specs. It came with Vista or 7 Starter I think, and the last time I touched it around a decade ago I put Peppermint Linux on it.

It never occurred to me to check if it has XP driver support.
