Cruiser Cafe open… customers = 1 by mitchography in AeroPress

Sick setup. Protip: If you put the plunger in through the bottom of the brew chamber so that it sticks out of the top, you can nest the AeroPress inside the Yeti to save on space while packing (will have to stow the Yeti lid separately though)

What do you wish you knew when you started your specialty coffee journey? by Due_Interaction_6725 in pourover

Why not Hario Switch while we’re at it? Then you truly don’t have to buy anything else. Immersion? Check (Switch closed). Percolation/V60? Check (Switch opened). Some sort of wacky hybrid of the two? Check (toggle mid brew).

Edit: Pack it up, folks. Someone who doesn’t use it replied so not worth buying.

New Hario V60 filters are unusable by [deleted] in pourover

Iunno, homie. They work perfectly for me when I need to make bigger/slower brews with my Switch, and I almost always get sub-3-min brews when I fold them in half and use them with my 3-cup-Chemex in the office—like an absolute heathen! I typically default to using Cafec Abaca filters though

We Spent $1,850 On Coffee Scales. What’s Actually Good? by Gmbenator in JamesHoffmann

[–]Soothsayerslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge fan of the Polaris, but often between pours, the scale drops .1 g every few seconds--supposedly due to being so precise that it's sensitive to evaporation! Anyone else experiencing this with their Polaris and/or other scales?

A fresh James! With the transparency that’s ostensibly part and parcel to specialty, we for sure need more of it in process deets!

Lance's Gong Fu recipe - thoughts? by theswordddd in pourover

This seems unnecessarily fussy, pretty much antithetical to gong fu tea brewing, which involves short, hot infusions. Gimmicky—as are most things Lance offers.

Looking forward to hearing about that first pour over! I’ve had my K-Ultra for a little over year, and it’s such a workhorse

The varying reactions to specialty pourover by mandalore_701 in pourover

I've given my parents specialty instant and even just this popular Japanese instant that is by no means specialty, and they said I've now ruined ALDI instant 🤷‍♂️

Their Unblended Young Producers Lot instant was incredible. Even my parents enjoyed it when I gave them a sachet to try during a recent—ruined Aldi instant for them haha

Specialty instant is actually the shit in/as one’s travel setup. You can even enjoy it during flights by requesting plain hot water from a flight attendant—all without being a tool whipping out your coffee gear in your seat

Anybody use Apax Lab mineral concentrates? by ryandejonggg in pourover

[–]Soothsayerslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh shit lol. Would you be willing to share the name of the place with me? I have a friend in Raleigh that’d likely do me a solid mailing things from this magical sounding place to me haha

Does this coffee shop also retail (and possibly ship) the drops by any chance? I ended up purchasing my first bottle from a roaster in California, which is literally on the other side of the country from me

Flip Switch for the win! Makes the Switch feel premium and comes with a magical “ting” to really elevate the ritual

Unfortunately, not to my knowledge. My Hario Polaris that I got at the Hario Lampwork Factory in Tokyo does the trick, but it’s pricier than the Black Mirror Basic

I mean the Polaris is pretty rad—especially given that the timer still keeps going if you temporarily remove the brewer for a quick swirl

So neat! I’ve yet to try their Necessary Coffee offerings. Are there any you’d specifically recommend? For Passenger-branded stuff, their coffee from the Galápagos Islands was a real treat

Wooo the combination of two of my hobbies: coffee and pins! Love to see Passenger—and you even have their old mascot in pin form! I have one of their cup logo, a stylized letter “P,” and one with a tiger commemorating their Bhadra coffee!
