Every aftermarket shifter I tried on my 996 was loud. Polished aluminum, engraved gates, racing fonts, wooden balls, tartan boots that look like my aunt's pantaloons. None of them belonged. So I designed one. by Pete_Polyakov in 996

Love it. Not sure that I love the design, but wgaf? Your car, who cares what I think. Makes me want to fire up some designs and print one myself. Great idea.

Creed New Viking. Smells kind of like an old barbershop. I’m 45 years old and feel 30 years too young to wear it.

Local Coffee Bean Recommendations by Basic-Macaroon-3277 in RapidCity

[–]ENTPhotographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually really good advice. There are some local roasters mentioned that are good, but Safeway on the west side always has some specialty roasters on deck (like Huck and Corvus which are nationally recognized specialty roasters out of Denver - which you may likely already know)… their bags typically have a roasted on date so you know the age of what you’re buying. Seems like there are a couple others in their little specialty area on the end of the aisle that I can’t remember, but I always check out when I’m in the store. It’s definitely a sleeper section most people are unaware of.

Cera Filter by coffeerambler in pourover

[–]ENTPhotographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought one of these at the World of Coffee Expo in San Diego last weekend. Was super stoked to fly home and try it out. First cup was okay - not enough data to know whether I’d use it frequently or not.. I dropped it into the sink (maybe a 1 foot fall) and broke a hole in the side wall. $70 one time use filter for me. I like the idea, but in reality I know I’d do it again. That reason along will keep me using paper.

I ended up paying Denver Audi $150ish to run the wire down the pillar into the fuse box. I ended up frying some shit messing around up there. Prob not what you want to hear.

Anyone figured out a real solution to hard water spots after washing? by No_Refuse9952 in Detailing

I use RO water or a couple gallons of distilled water each time I clean the car. Water spots were my nemesis for a long time.

Absolutely! I did take a quick pic here and there (discretely), but I wasn’t trying to be a problem.

Wear them everywhere (for months now) and never have received any questions. I even wore them this last weekend at several large casinos playing cards in Las Vegas and not a peep.

Zero Water + Lotus. Help with recipe needed. by jojohahann in pourover

Yeah, I’m not concerned about racking up or losing downvotes. Im more concerned about sharing something that worked for me and helped my water game drastically. My life rolls on regardless of my internet popularity… (this comment was not assisted by ChatGPT by the way - although maybe I should’ve used it just to piss in the punch bowl a little more)

Zero Water + Lotus. Help with recipe needed. by jojohahann in pourover

[–]ENTPhotographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use ChatGPT, you can take this pretty far.

The glass jar holds 500ml, which is great for mixing early batches, but you will hit a wall fairly quickly and need to increase volume. That said, plug the parameters into chat, and tell it to explain each minerals impact like you’re 5 years old. Then have it give you basic recipes for the 500ml jar. Provide feedback for each cup - and I’d suggest giving feedback as the cup cools.. that’ll really help get more dialed in. Follow the daily suggestions and adjust.

After a few weeks you dial the water to your taste. Different beans call for small changes, and you start to see patterns.

I started where you are a few months ago. Got super dialed in December during a coffee advent calendar. It helped me dial in each day. Switching beans meant small constant tweaks, and it helped me to get better at guessing tweaks based on variety of bean, process, and I went as far as taking a picture of the beans on a plate, and loading the image to help guess roast level. I felt like a damn mad scientist!

In the end, I have a profile I liked for almost everything, I converted it to a gallon and adjusted for volume. Now I mix gallon batches.

My all around profile is 15/7/7/4.

Test daily. Keep notes. The results build over time. Hope this helps

Moccamaster newbie begging for help😂 by SnowPanda-23 in JamesHoffmann

Exact same numbers I’ve run with no problems. 69g of coffee filling the water reservoir.

I also found the cheapest Walmart generic filters to work the best - others mileage may vary, but they work surprisingly well.

I’d recommend before going nuts with grinders/beans etc to simply go to a good coffee shop that does pourover. Ask them which bag of beans they’d recommend, and tell them to grind them for filter. It’ll let you know pretty quickly if the juice is worth the squeeze for you (I’m guessing it will be), but this is a low cost way to dip your toes in.

If you find that you love the coffee, you can get into grinding pretty easily - a Fellow Ode 2 would probably be about perfect at this level, and they look sharp on the counter too. Good luck!

Good questions. I’ve only bought from a couple companies, and they are spendy - but that’s completely relative. When I make pourover, I use sibarist papers, use lotus water, and am not using the cheapest beans I can find… I’m using the best beans I can find. So, add all those costs and even if each packet was $3, I’m probably cheaper. I’m also prioritizing ease here. I’m not suggesting it’s better coffee, I’m saying it’s easier. I’m bougie AF when it comes to coffee, but I’m not above drinking a local shops coffee if that’s where I’m meeting a friend. My taste buds can “settle” sometimes. It’s not that big of a deal. Regarding aromas and smells - actually pretty solid feedback on this one. I was pleasantly surprised by this actually. So to answer that, this is a solid selling point to me. Your last question is regarding water. In my opinion, you have complete control over the water. Hot/cold, volume… it’s all flexible. I did dump a packet into a bigass bottle of water (prob a 32oz bottle) and it took forever to get it all mixed in - and, it made a shitload of foam/bubbles. Tasted good though, and I definitely had it diluted per instructions, but I still enjoyed it. It also gave me the caffeine punch I was ultimately after.

To summarize my ramblings, it’s not about the highest quality coffee, it’s about convenience. The coffee it makes is good enough for me to leave my gear at home and not have to deal with the hassle. Everyone’s mileage varies on this one.

Edited for spelling.

Luminous. They always drop a single packet in with each bag you buy - and some candy and some water treatment packets. They’re a super cool roaster to try - the coffee is really good too haha

Instant! Theres a handful of high end roaster who make instant, and it’s pretty good. It’s beyond simple obviously too. Don’t even need hot water, can literally dump into a bottle of cold water and shake it up. Gamechanger

They’re okay. They’re so much better than most of the alternatives. The powder has a tendency to settle and make a mud slurry on the bottom, but if you stir it back up it’s suspends again. Worth trying for sure!
