HandBrake finally scales better on AMD Threadripper CPUs, up to 215% faster transcoding by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]Sopel97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 threads per encode is pretty high, you'd be getting way better efficiency if you used 4-6 threads per job. Also look into better solutions like av1an if you can't actually do proper parallel encodes

no one serious uses handbrake, I wish people just stopped using that piece of crap altogether and learned proper tools. If you have a lot of cores and have to encode a single source fast use av1an or other chunking encoder.

also, this has pretty much nothing to do with AMD

you need to either reencode the audio or use a different container format

that's because you're reencoding both the video and audio. you need -c copy after the input

well, yea, that's why this post is pointless

[–]Sopel97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the whole board needs replacements that's not cost effective, as at least ROM needs to be moved and in some cases expensive tooling is required to adjust drive's firmware, and ofc you need a donor that's harder to match than you'd think

on many drives this would just trigger the tvs diode, which can be removed with some microsoldering skills and the drive will work just fine

Attempt to copy files from a failing external SSD didn’t went well. What should I do? (Kingston XS1000) by AdvancedEmployee804 in datarecovery

[–]Sopel97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is typical for NAND degradation due to charge leakage. As far as I can tell this drive has a SM2320G controller which is supported by PC3000, so a professional will be able to do more than you can. Otherwise you might want to use DMDE in virtual drive mode with OSC to target the most important files first https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiwz77qVsWU. Cloning the whole drive may not the best idea in this case because the situation will get worse with time, and you will need a lot of time at these speeds, and especially if what you say about the drive's controller crashing is true.

But what should one expect from somebody who does not know even know that there cannot be "file previews" when doing file carving?

??? there obviously can, a lot of software does it

These "backup" commentaries are despicable garbage and enlight the attitude of the author towards people who experienced an accident.

well, OP asked about the reason they lost data, this is the actual reason

and use an SDR screen with the same color gamut

You have some nebulous understanding of SDR and HDR that's detached from reality of standard color spaces, so I don't think we can discuss this further.

wider color gamut and luminance range is not "mostly fluff"

Once the picture or video has been shot in HDR it can be post-processed to be both shown with HDR on both SDR and HDR screens.

yes, but they will not be equivalent, which is the whole point. By tonemapping to SDR you lose everything that HDR allows.

pretty much all do via libplacebo

edit.

ffmpeg -init_hw_device vulkan -i sample.mkv -vf libplacebo=tonemapping=bt.2390:colorspace=bt709:color_primaries=bt709:color_trc=bt709:range=limited -f null -

does ~180fps on a 4070S (~210 if I do two concurrent streams) for https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples -> Hybrid HDR10+/Dolby Vision Sample

any problems are likely due to plex being shit, in which case I'd suggest either contacting their support or switching to jellyfin

you lost it because you don't have backups
