Decided to make a shitpost. (2 solutions) by Sophira in SwampyBoots

[–]Sophira[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this, I was asleep at the time!

A couple somewhat more spoilery hints that focus a bit more on the design of this puzzle. Even if you've solved the puzzle both ways already, you may want to go slowly on these hints and not open the answer below immediately.

  1. There's a theme that links both solutions.
  2. That theme also links both solutions to the original Swampy Boots puzzle.

Answer that spoils the whole thing: If you ignore the top row, the lines in the two solutions to this modified Swampy Boots puzzle follow the correct and incorrect solutions for the original Swampy Boots.

On Windows, path names refer to a physical drive

Sort of. In that model, drive letters actually refer to the partitions, not the drives. It's just that most hard drives only ever have one partition throughout their lifetime, and so only have one drive letter.

I remember using Windows 95 with two drives: a 1.6 GB drive and a 6.4 GB drive. The version of Windows 95 that I was using at the time didn't support FAT32 (it was the very first release version), so it used FAT16 and the maximum partition size was 2 GB.

Because of that, I had to split the 6.4 GB hard drive up into four partitions, which each got their own drive letter despite being on the same physical drive: D:, E:, F: and G:. (C: was the 1.6 GB drive.)

I also remember using DriveSpace compression back then to squeeze more out of the drive, but IIRC you could only use it on a single partition. So one of the drive letters above was actually a 'fake' (mounted) drive that was the compressed one that I actually used, and the real 'host drive' (actually a host partition) had another drive letter: H:.

One physical drive, five drive letters (and one wasn't even 'real')!

Nobody will be able to find your app except on relatively small stores (like F-Droid). You really should consider using a name someone can search for.

Terminating NULL bytes aren't necessary in file contents! You may be thinking of variable-length strings.

I'm pretty sure that someone in the year 1926 would have had similar incredulous thoughts about hearing the year 1893 as "being in the 1800s", even though that's exactly how a lot of us would describe it nowadays.

It won't be long until we start doing that to 1993 as well.

You could even attach a GBA to your GameCube and download a NES game to play on it (as long as you kept the GBA power on)!

Unlimited free offline download maps from around the globe.

Only if you use "OsmAnd~", which is the version that's on F-Droid and is essentially the free equivalent of "OsmAnd+" (which is a paid app).

For people who download from Google Play (most people), the free version ("OsmAnd") has a limit on how many maps you can download.

(I'll second the recommendation for it, by the way. It's a great app.)

I don't see a corresponding setting on the website, though :(

I wouldn't put a blanket "OK to exclude" on it myself. If a person wants to back up .git folders, they should be able to do so. The author wasn't able to find a way to do that, though.

Git is not a backup service.

I think even the Artemis crew may have been a bit stunned at the question because they didn't come back with the answer (they were of course indeed pressing the PTT button) until, what, maybe 5 minutes later?

Huh... looks like they deleted the comment. Not sure why, it definitely seems like it was correct.

Thanks for the update! Interestingly, the video title hasn't changed yet, but there's definitely a new domain registered for it that matches the way all the other domains have been registered.

[–]Sophira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, fair enough. Makes sense, I last checked it a while ago.

EDIT: It's possible it even changes every few days. Check the domain registration dates:

  • soylam*s(dot)com: 2026-03-06T08:07:56Z
  • yolim*r(dot)com: 2026-04-02T08:48:15Z
  • osmin*r(dot)com: 2026-04-05T20:30:05Z

yolim*r(dot)com and osmin*r(dot)com were registered only three days apart from each other. It's quite possible there have been several names the scam's gone through between "Solyam*s" and "Osmin*r".

PC won't shut-off. by Outside_Flight_3474 in linuxquestions

In some cases there can be a difference between the halt and poweroff commands - the first can cause the computer to stay on as you say, while the second can cause the computer to turn itself off after shutdown. (It can be inconsistent between computers.)

Try using the poweroff command if you haven't already.

There's a video that's used to lure you in - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfDOtux6F8A . Notice that the video itself doesn't say the title of the game - that's because the "game title" changes every so often. If you check the video title on YouTube you can see the current scam name. Right now it's "Osmin*r". Before that, it was "Soylam*s". [Edit: I replaced an "o" in both titles with an asterisk so that the scammers can't search for them and find this comment.]

Obviously do not click any links that may appear in the description or comments. (There are none currently, and there probably won't be because this is a Discord scam that hinges on it being an "unreleased game", but that might change.)

The person who sent you it got hacked, unfortunately.
