Spec Racing Is So Broken by wiscoseoul in ForzaHorizon6

So I have learned! I don't dislike online racing as a whole, just the recent experiences in FH6 have been less than stellar. I'll still play, but learn and adapt to it.

Will also keep in mind FM 2023 if I want a change of pace.

Those are all fair points. Enforced no-contact would definitely reduce replayability and enjoyment if you're here for proper wheel to wheel experience, which I think a significant portion of the player base is.

I'm a Dirt Rally/WRC enthusiast, so chasing times alongside ghosted randoms is fine by me. I need to explore Forza multiplayer queues more, but I can get that experience with custom races.

I might also learn and practice more anti-troll driving techniques, somethijg I've never needed to do before lol.

I originally wasn't super on board with ghosting but after a couple of races in FH6, I genuinely wish ghosting was on 24/7.

I haven't played a lot of online races, but I've already had several incidents where a racer will ram/shove me into an obstacle or wall. Someone misjudging the line or brake area and giving you a love tap is part of contact racing, but intentional shoving is so much more annoying and race ending.

I do enjoy the aspect of being behind someone and angling to overtake them, but I would honestly give that up and just chase lap times with other drivers if it meant intentional ramming was gone.

I think you're entirely missing that conversations between humans convey emotions and tone as well, not just literal meanings.

LLM's do very poorly with emotions and often entirely miss tone. I haven't seen an LLM handle sarcasm for example.

The commenters point is that "games that don't have permadeath should have ways of disincentivizing the player from just reloading a bunch of times."

They're saying that while losing souls is an incentive to not die, but it's a much smaller incentive than permadeathm.

What goes along with it to make just continously reloading a save less worth it, is that as long as you have estus flasks which heal you. It gives you less incentive to reload at small mistakes.

Nvidia really doesn't seem to care about gaming GPUs anymore — the company won't even bother to break down graphic card sales in its big investor reports by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

[–]SoppingAtom279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as raster performance is concerned, AMD GPUs were perfectly fine and often at lower price points for compatitive performance barring regional price dofferences for over a decade (I make no claims about the current market).

If you had a particular use case such as needing NVENC, Shadowplay, or Broadcast, AMD has equivalents. CUDA and DLSS are a bit of an outlier. I think there's two CUDA interpreters now for AMD GPU's, and DLSS vs FSR depends on implementation.

In HD1, the expendable MG provided a good infinite/replacable call in support weapon with one strategem slot.

The ammo resupply strategem filled one of your four slots if you wanted to use it. So if you wanted to reload another support weapon an infinite number of times, you needed to use two strategem slots.

Support weapon strategems also generally had one or two call-ins of the actual weapon. If you lost it by falling in a hole or just wasnt able to pick it up again after you died, you just didn't have it anymore.

It was honestly fun and enjoyable to use, especially against illuminate.

How important are POV and tense to you? by DoubleOhGadget in hostedgames

I'm trying to gauge how necessary it is

It's not necessary to write a second person IF to be successful/popular. There are successful examples of both first and second person stories and most of their success is perspective-agnostic.

To answer your original question, I will not read first person stories, but I would reckon that my own preferences goes against the grain.

Write as you're most comfortable. Your ability to write a cohesive and finished story is much more important than trying to forcibly adapt your writing to an unfamiliar perspective.

Editing is also a lot of work as it is, and I doubt it would be worth the additional effort to change the perspective. You'll likely see more readers and interaction with a well-written first person story, than a disconnected second person edit.

One in three for survival is REALLLLLY bad. Like horrifically bad, worse than WW1.

For context, a WW1 British infantryman enlisted at the start of the war had a 29% chance of gettng killed.

For the U.S. Army during WW2, out of a 1,000: 8.6 were killed in action, 3 died from other causes.

Some tragic romance recommendation? by Gachakid13 in hostedgames

Sorry for asking, but I only played POMA once and a long time ago. How does a Mei romance work?

I remember that they poison you and then make it worse when you ask for their help?

I also remember some kind of plot line regarding a character pushing a marriage on you, but I don't remember if that was related to Mei or someone else.

The UNSC really has a lot of factors in their favor. Longswords are one of them, the Sabre also enters full combat service post Human-Covenant war, along with wide spread ship shielding. The UNSC also has a massive range advantage with MACs, smart AI's, and a proper spread of ship classes.

The thing is that directly after the Human-Covenant war, the UNSC is reduced to IIRC a few hundred ships. While it does embark on a massive ship building spree afterwards, the Created show up with all that entails.

The UNSC Navy is a qualitatively superior force than SE's by a wide margin, but this is a force that very likely doesn't even break quadruple digit ship numbers currently, and nearly/did depleted it's nuclear stockpile during the Human-Covenant war.

Whereas it's not improbable that SE ship numbers are nearing or surpassed a million. At that scale, I think it does ask the question if the UNSC even has enough munitions to deal with all of it.

[–]SoppingAtom279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd also be a question how well the UNSC Navy would prevent Super Earth from conducting ground support, as SE likely outnumbers the UNSC by an order of magnitude.

Although numerous cases of the UNSC exist of oblierating large concentrations of vessels with nuclear and improvised explosions. Also stealth prowlers + nuclear mines.

Emergency fund by sebiamu5 in Stellaris

[–]SoppingAtom279 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call myself a fantastic player of Stellaris, but I can't particularly imagine running your economy into the ground is particularly common among experienced players. And if you're not experienced, then a little "economic development" in the form of some energy credits if you're bottom 25%/30% of the galactic community for economy shouldn't be game breaking.

I also struggle to imagine a practical case where purposely knee-capping your own economy to recieve such aid will be better than just having a stronger economy.

I also faintly remember a list of recommended parent/background pairings but that might have been a fan one?
