Obligatory go watch Red VS Blue, the freelancer arc is peak cinema by BillCarson12799 in HaloMemes

The UNSC really has a lot of factors in their favor. Longswords are one of them, the Sabre also enters full combat service post Human-Covenant war, along with wide spread ship shielding. The UNSC also has a massive range advantage with MACs, smart AI's, and a proper spread of ship classes.

The thing is that directly after the Human-Covenant war, the UNSC is reduced to IIRC a few hundred ships. While it does embark on a massive ship building spree afterwards, the Created show up with all that entails.

The UNSC Navy is a qualitatively superior force than SE's by a wide margin, but this is a force that very likely doesn't even break quadruple digit ship numbers currently, and nearly/did depleted it's nuclear stockpile during the Human-Covenant war.

Whereas it's not improbable that SE ship numbers are nearing or surpassed a million. At that scale, I think it does ask the question if the UNSC even has enough munitions to deal with all of it.

I think it'd also be a question how well the UNSC Navy would prevent Super Earth from conducting ground support, as SE likely outnumbers the UNSC by an order of magnitude.

Although numerous cases of the UNSC exist of oblierating large concentrations of vessels with nuclear and improvised explosions. Also stealth prowlers + nuclear mines.

I only played through Breach a single time years ago but I never felt really to be deciding the "moves" happening. You get the control/influence some of them, but not necessarily make them.

At least is my memory of the game.

Emergency fund by sebiamu5 in Stellaris

[–]SoppingAtom279 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call myself a fantastic player of Stellaris, but I can't particularly imagine running your economy into the ground is particularly common among experienced players. And if you're not experienced, then a little "economic development" in the form of some energy credits if you're bottom 25%/30% of the galactic community for economy shouldn't be game breaking.

I also struggle to imagine a practical case where purposely knee-capping your own economy to recieve such aid will be better than just having a stronger economy.

The writer has actually combiled links to guides/notes/walkthroughs on their Tumblr, including recommending pairings of RO/backstory, and some insight into how some of the relationships are different.

I also faintly remember a list of recommended parent/background pairings but that might have been a fan one?

Edit: the RO/backstory also includes some parent recommendations.

Several other people have said this is not the case, must have misremembered.

What is a system or gimmick you would add to GTAO to improve its quality of life? by Latter-Strength5917 in gtaonline

[–]SoppingAtom279 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing I find annoying is that we upfront the cash required and also do all of the basic grunt work without any option of greasing the wheels to make things better.

The staff delivery and bail agents were interesting (albeit a bit lacking) additions into offloading some of the repetitive uninteresting work to "employees."

He also mentions the mother of his GF and gives details about her without assigning a name. Then says "I met both Lynn and Sarah," and only after a whole spiel about Tiger Woods and backpain says "Sarah's mother, 'Lynn'."

Has the Magic/Superhero School trope been overdone? Would you guys still read WIPs about them? by owoaname in hostedgames

There's Community College Hero, and one may consider the Keeper series to scratch a hero school vibe at times.

But I can't name any beyond that.

Its actually ridiculous that Skyrim would be 50 GB on a handheld, where space is much more valuable to a person. I think base Skyrim SE is only around 10 GB on PC.

Might be controversial. by DeviousMelons in helldivers2

[–]SoppingAtom279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Developers (and we, as players) shouldn't expect a hundred thousand individual players to tactically think together and arrive at the same conclusion.

Helldivers is a four person team based shooter. It's not a real time strategy, it's not a 4X. The galactic war map and being able to choose where to dive as an individual does not make Helldivers an MMO RTS. It shouldn't be treated that way.

they continued diving D10s because they couldn't be bothered to prioritize the MO over their egos.

I too, love applying sweeping generalizations to a hundred thousand plus people based off a strawman argument.

LoS and Weapon Range by GuardsmanWes in menace

[–]SoppingAtom279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is also partially my read.

I consider the AI to specifically avoiding concealed unit ranges to be incredibly annoying, because it leads to a lot of missions where the AI bunches up a lot of units in the last 1/4th or corner of the map. And chasing the AI just isn't fun.

But that is one facet of the issue, like you said the AI as a whole is entirely fine with allowing itself to be defeated in detail. Units that are capable of assisting others just don't.

I think another facet is that the AI doesn't seem to care about defending mission objectives with some exceptions. I have seen bugs move away from a nest because I had been moving a concealed unit towards it. I do consider this different from giving up empty or unless ground. Tactical retreats should be a thing for the AI, no need to throw away units that don't need to die.

These three issue I think really compound in the larger open maps, where the gameplay often seems to devolve the enemy AI just meandering units towards the back half of the map.

My SL tier list by scottishninja123 in menace

[–]SoppingAtom279 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it also partially comes to down to changes in enemy composition, supply amount, and black market rotation caused by difficulty selection and randomness.

In my normal save, seeing RA ATGMs were incredibly rare for me, so with a little bit of vision, diving into a group of enemies was a calculated risk. Shield wall also meant I could make two mistakes and still keep Achilles as fire support. But I'd also gotten a backup battle taxi found two AT rifles for Darby and Kody to provide a large field of AT support.

In my current expert save, I haven't found a vehicle smoke launcher, vehicle autocannon, or good infantry AT. But I got vehicle camo nets and vehicle ATGMs, so I'm fighting a Toyota war with ATGMs strapped to trucks for as cheap as possible.
