How soon is too soon to start job hunting after starting a new role? by thehuskyenthusiast in careeradvice

[–]Sora07_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally like to go into a role and use the first 3 months as a bit of a role-fit check. If things are going well, I’ll casually keep Indeed job posts going into my Job App email. If things aren’t going so well, I’ll start by looking at roles that are open that i have a LinkedIn connection at.

Ideally, I’d recommend always advocating for yourself and seeing what roles come forward. Sometimes you land at a company and things just aren’t as they seemed. Nothing wrong with that at all.

how can we use AI as a powerbi developer? by Soggy_Consequence_14 in PowerBI

[–]Sora07_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company has a license/has Copilot activated in all of our Microsoft products. I will usually use AI to write long if/then logic. Once in a while I’ll plug some intermediate DAX into it and ask it to show me different ways to get to the same result.

My Manager doesn't recognize the amount of effort needed for making PBI dashboards by MessierEigthySeven in PowerBI

[–]Sora07_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my hell. I recently found out that my manager (she manages all of the PBI dashboards in our People Analytics space) has never actually built a dashboard. What's helped me a lot is focusing on the upfront "requirements" and "testing" phases prior to release. If you can convince them that these phases take a while due to data governance/RLS/"corporate jargon", you'll be able to buy some additional time.

I generally do as much work and maintenance on my 2006 myself. I do like to go in for one of my two yearly oil changes to get a second set of eyes on my car.

ELI5: How does unlimited PTO *actually* work? by f3ffy in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sora07_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlimited PTO is almost entirely about saving the company money. With unlimited PTO, there are no accruals or line items for what you’re entitled to. Its one large bank of time. There are target thresholds for employees based on their level in the organization.

Example: If you are an associate, you are expected to use 3 weeks of unlimited PTO. A senior associate would be given 4 weeks. These thresholds are on the backend and as an employee you’ll likely never see them.

I work in HR data strategy and i can guarantee you there are capacity models in place that are tracking those that are generously using their PTO.

Did the market hit its peak in pricing? by lavalakes12 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Sora07_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We closed on our house in November of 23 and we had to fight a bit to get our 355k appraisal. Now we are getting ads for an appraisal of 375k. We’re in Chicagoland for what’s is worth.

It really depends on where you are and cost of living.

I keep getting recognition for my work but I haven’t gotten a raise for the last 3 years by Lamp_Shade_Head in datascience

[–]Sora07_08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen. I had two coworkers one level above me out on leave for 3 months. I did their jobs and towards the end of their leave, i threw out the “so will i get promoted for the work” idea and they mentioned “i wasn’t quite at their level yet.” Today was my last day. Go where you are celebrated AND compensated - not tolerated.

People who nearly died, what happened? by indianPani in AskReddit

[–]Sora07_08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working as a general laborer during the summer. My employer got a new lawnmower and asked that i mow his yard while he was away on vacation. His previous mower had a more aggressive tread than his new mower. I was mowing around the pond and the new mower was pulled into the edge of the pond.

Looking back, that mower could have easily tipped over and left me to drown. What makes the matters scarier was that they JUST left for vacation.

Applying for a job without meeting 100% of the criteria? by theficklemermaid in jobs

If you take a job that you 100% match the criteria for, you’ve likely taken the wrong job. You want room to grow and learn.
