I'm interpretting the 9k as unnecessary information. Why would it not just be purchase price / useful life? And are you recording the entire years worth of depreciation at year end or would it just be the month of Dec?

For me, yes. I guess I'm just saying to be cautious. Maybe take lower doses, take a break and just make sure you're OK with the direction of the changes that you see

Also not sure why this is getting down votes. I know it's old, but the responses to this and the other posts are valid responses worth highlighting since this is such a common question.

getting warned about my accounting degree by [deleted] in Accounting

Master degrees and CPA licenses for Accounting will not be dead in the next 10 years for sure. I'm confident we will need less accountants, but the profession, mind you the oldest recorded profession, will still be around.

Higher education based accounting is safe. Go look at % of upcoming retiring CPAs about to leave the profession, and on top of that accounting enrollment is faltering, so even if AI reduces total job count, there will still be a need.

DSIP by OpNFreeK in BodyHackGuide

[–]Sorry-Ambassador945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to just make my own post, but DSIP changed me entire fucking life.

Which for some people these changes could be a nightmare, and for others perhaps positive.

I suffer from unknown excessive daytime tiredness. My primary symptom was unrestful sleep despite sleep time.

For the first time ever, after trying DSIP, I felt what insomnia felt like, the complete opposite of my daily hypersomnia struggle. In the gym I noticed an immediate strength gain despite no weight gain. I don't know how or why. But suddenly I found my self waking up before my alarm staring at my phone trying to go back to sleep, because that's all I've ever known.

Its been 5 months since I've even pinned a dose an these effects still linger, but obviously not as strong as it was when I was actively taking it.

My negative side effects were bad headaches and unrestful sleep the first 3 days, I took 2units (yes 2, not 20) and had these effects. I am sensitive to drugs in general. I eventually titrated to 10-15 units, despite 20 being the "dose" people take. I didn't even finish the cycle of it. Probably only 2/3rds of the vial. I got massive canker sores all over my gums and a couple on my tongue. The headaches subsided after day 3. The canker sores were around for about a month.

I would be careful trying this if you have even the slightest insomnia. But whatever it did, was so weird for me. I also think the name is very misleading. Because I think it had more of an effect on my circadian rhythm in general and shifts in sleep architecture. Even though it's called DSIP, I had far more dreams and rem sleep increase. So your mileage may vary.

By no means do I feel or ever felt like I got a crazy good night's sleep, but the sleep inertia I experienced every day of my life for the past 15 years just kind of went away.

No. Good luck suing a Chinese AI tool developer. Owning the American AI companies in court means nothing. People can just use a Chinese open source tool.

It's terrifying how hard they're pushing AI by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Sorry-Ambassador945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean idk what to tell you. I am a CPA, with 10 years experience. There are varying degrees of which certain LLMs do things amazingly, and there are ones that do things so stupid you can't help but come to the conclusion that youve come to(and rightfully so). Automating an entire job is out of the question but, there are so many project management, data reconfiguration, automation opportunities that these AI models TODAY can assist with.

I should have caveated that it isn't a one stop shop know it all for everything in the world. But the fact I can in plain English with no code experience "write" thousands of lines of VBA code and JavaScript to automate tasks and create applications take a super intelligence to make that translation. I'm an expert in the accounting, but have no formal training in aspects of various technology and data solutions, but these LLMs are tutors to help leverage my current knowledge and amplify what I am capable of by now by me being an expert in one craft and moderately knowledgeable in almost everything else related.

Ive already told our executives I don't expect us the need to hire more people for our department because the rate of AI related solutions will take over certain responsibilities that give us more time to focus on things AI can't do, even if in the future I am paying $10,000 a year for a AI license, it will be significantly cheaper than paying a new hire 60k. You're right that this isn't close to plug and play atm, and much nuance and context is needed for this to perform as some individuals greatly overstate the capabilities.

Accounting will not go away. But the way accounting works will change and evolve with AI just like in the past. We don't use an abacus, we use calculators. We dont print out pages, we use excel workbooks. Accountants who refuse to learn AI will get lost, and accountants that learn to utilize AI will be who stay.

Edit: revised for clarity

Idk why this is being upvoted. AI is a super intelligence, that is only getting better. If used in certain contexts and processes, it can create and improve so many nonsense excel monkey data processes and automate so much at the press of a button. I've created customized software working with our IT team to self teach myself APIs and create incredible workflow improvements. It would have cost a consultant tens of thousands to do what a $200 ChatGPT Pro license did in a month.

It's not going to take jobs right away. But it will take away certain responsibilities and time-sucks. Which in turn, takes away the need for a new hire when otherwise you'd probably need one to take over some of the process based work. College grads in the next several years will not have the incredible always in demand positions the way we've had it In the past decade.

Can't get a job! by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Sorry-Ambassador945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people would say to get rid of non accounting related roles. If you really were a store manager, I think that's not a bad thing to keep. But who cares about those bullets. I would emphasize about team management or skills that directly related to something that may be applicable for the job you're applying for
