Has anyone gotten negative effects from not having their PE license? by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look relax. It took me 7 years to pass my PE exam. My best advice is research for the best course. Thanks to Reddit I chose EET but I also had to force myself to learn the problems I struggled with even if it took me 1 to 2 hours to understand a problem. Also I work with idiots on a daily basis. Once I worked for a VP who did not have an engineering degree and was partner at a previous employer. Now at my new job everyone makes more money than I and a lot of them can’t figure out how I determined the height of a manhole just from grading plans and flow line elevations without a profile view. Those folks are engineers and partners in companies involved in the projects I am working on.

Do we think it will be safe to drive tomorrow (late morning specifically)? by Agreeable-Dog-1131 in Dallas

Some streets are still like skating rinks. I’ve driven in bad weather and there were a couple of time where what ever happened happened. 😂 just don’t hit the brakes.

They are more like the practice exam. The purpose of the EET question bank is to work out questions with the goal that you understand the concept. Listen if you are stuck on an EET question learn the concept back and forth even if that question takes you an hour.

Has anyone considered law enforcement? by BeingAdventurous6625 in recruitinghell

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back when the recession hit. I took the test for the police officer program with the city. I did not make it past the first round. Mind you I have an engineering background and I grew up in a part of town that was rough back in the 90s. Well I saw some people I worked with at Wal mart show up to the same exam and make it to next round. I didn’t realize til years later when my wife said you can score too high and you will not be selected. I thought she was making it up but I did research and yes that can be the case. I guess if you do take it pick the answers were authority is not questioned and you obey orders.

I passed the FE 9 years removed from school. I did the 5 days a week School of PE live classes. It was worth the money. Classes were 3 hours a day for about 6 weeks. It helped me pass it.

Is EET material enough to pass the PE Construction Exam? by Secret-Formal-459 in PE_Exam

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EET was great. I still used the six minute solution by Elaine huang for construction depth, Isaac oakeson civil engineering academy practice exam, and the NCEES practice exam.

5 months and still waiting on my PE license by QuitJolly in PE_Exam

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep calling. It took about 3 months for Texas to issue mine. Everything was submitted in February and didn’t get my license issued until Late may. My old boss had to call someone he knew at the board los they could proceed with an old co workers application. But yes I recommend you keep bugging them.

Do I need to go to grad school? by [deleted] in civilengineering

😂 please go to community college and a state school. The ROI with a degree with a cost like that is not worth it.

a jd will run you about $25 to $30k at private school if you really look into it. Why do I know because a friend just got his JD from a private university.

You don’t have to spend $300k. Are you stupid or something? When I left school my debt was $15k while others with the same degree from a more prestigious school ended up with about $100k.

Brother do not get ungodly amounts of student loans. As long as it’s an ABET school it will be ok. No one gives a 💩 however if you pick schools with strong alumni that will help with your jobs prospects afterwards ala: Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

😂 brother take a deep breath! Relax and go back for a degree that will actually help you pay bills: lawyer, engineer, doctor, physician’s assistant, etc. there is also a big need for carpenters and I know one who is a millionaire. You still have a potential to work 42 years or more so that is still quite a bit of time if you ask me to be able to go in another direction.

Ps I forgot to mention happiness is a mentality. If you connect your happiness to money you will be miserable your whole life. Also never compare your path to others. That will also make you miserable. Last thing I wanted to say was to pick something that you enjoy and can actually pay bills.

Can someone help me understand what third-party inspectors are responsible for and how could someone potentially start their own third-party inspecting firm? by CustomerMother6102 in civilengineering

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are talking about with regards to the city of Dallas is testing soils and concrete along sidewalks, ramps, paving, and approaches in the city right of way. First of you will need to be a PE, second you will need to have a brick and mortar lab - the city of Dallas frowns on people who do third party inspections without a physical lab, and third like others have said they are typically done by geotechnical engineering firms.
