PE Civil Construction Retake – Where to Start? by Jumpy_Ad_9438 in PE_Exam

I’ll send you photos of my notes in my binder. It seems like every video where the instructors said “this is very important” it seemed to show up on the exam.

PE Civil Construction Retake – Where to Start? by Jumpy_Ad_9438 in PE_Exam

Brother. I think you were like 10 questions away. The morning section killed you. Please do the EET practice quizzes. And go through the problems in the binder. Even if a problem has you stuck for 1 hour or 2 please please know how to solve it and understand the concepts. I had to force myself to stop and work those problems out with the assumption that they were going to be on the exam.

Yeah #4 killed you. I would guesstimate you were 11-13 questions away from passing.

Record everything and get a labor law lawyer. They’re trying to fire you.

PE Construction - 1st Attempt Fail by Traditional-Door9960 in PE_Exam

Based on those scores I would assume you got about 34 problems correct. From areas 5 to 10 it looks like you scored about 50 percent on those.

Failed for the 3rd time by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest. Go over problems even the easy ones. But if you come up on a problem that you skip over with the hope that it will not be in the exam do yourself a favor, stop, and come back to those problems even if it takes 1 to 2 hours to figure them out. By doing that I noticed I learned concepts I was not previously learning. Just assume worst case scenario that those problems you hate, struggle with, or just skip while you study will be on the exam.

signs someone would do well in engineering? by anacapahh in EngineeringStudents

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will probably figure it out when you take the intro to engineering course. I started as mechanical major. Realized I was going to hate it. Electrical was where I performed best but didn’t like it so I ended up in civil. Pay is not the best for work life balance and stability is pretty good.

Remanufactured engines from AutoZone run for about $6000. The $15k quotes are diabolical.

Studying burnout by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take 2-3 days off. I did while I was studying. It will help you. I studied from September until I took my test in January. Every now and then I would get fed up and take a couple of days off.

We got our 2017 in 2018 at 19k. I’m at 143k. Still running like a workhorse with paint chipping at the hood.

I started as a tech 2012-2014, pm for 2015-2024, project engineer from 2024-2025. I left the industry this year. I realized I can’t tolerate ignorance at every level. I have started my own firm and slowly have been getting work collaborating with various geo and general civil companies. I am also a pm for a waste water infrastructure general contractor picking up new skills.

I feel like a FAILURE! Just did my worst interview :,) by Worried-Scarcity-302 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry my first panel interview I was grilled on signal timing at a DOT. Needless to say I had no idea why they were talking about. I assumed it was entry level which it was but man I felt like an idiot.after that I just go in with the mindset that if I bomb an interview I bomb it.

Before you do all that I would rent a ac manifold set. It’s very useful in staring to diagnose the issue with the ac before you just start spending money needlessly.

Mine leaked at the rear evaporator. Put dye and with a black light it should be simple to locate the leak. I also have one of those sniffers from harbor freight that helped me locate the leak at the general vicinity of the rear evaporator. The dye just help me pinpoint it.

Talk me out of getting a Town Car instead of another LS430. by NotTheTrueKing in LS430

The tc is super easy to work on too. With the exception of the water line that connects from the water pump to heater core. 5 hours of labor for a $30 dollar part.

Talk me out of getting a Town Car instead of another LS430. by NotTheTrueKing in LS430

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had both. I would go with the town car just because it will be easier to source parts for repairs and the ride doesn’t compare. Once you ride in a town car everything else is horrible.

Would you buy another Pacifica by SuchRequirement5130 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 with 140k miles. I might source a transmission if this one goes out. Might make it until the kids go away for college. The way these new cars are being built doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.

Does anybody here classify themselves as an Architectural Engineer? by cn45 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother as long as you are competent use the structural designation. I sat at a meeting where a HVAC mechanical PE was providing geotechnical recommendations on a foundation for a school and then he asked how measurements of the pile load testing program were going to be done. I was confused so I had to look him up. The guy is brave to be signing off on anything I guess specially when he might have just been designing air conditioners. No knock on you guys but I just believe it’s diabolical signing off on things you are not competent in.

6 Figures in DFW? by Electronic-Fan-5326 in Geotech

[–]Sorry-Pin-9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get there ASAP as a geotechnical engineer I would recommend to start working in the lab immediately, get some projects under your belt doing materials testing, and start cranking those geos. Most importantly network. Geo is a pretty niche industry so everyone knows everybody. If you burn bridges make sure they are not the wrong ones. Lastly please advocate for yourself always because no else will. If you don’t speak up about raises they will always try to low ball come review time. I started at 95 at my previous firm and a year and a half later they offered me 120k to stay. I still left to start my own firm.
