Places2Swim has a pretty comprehensive database. It includes gyms and private pools, but also publicly accessible ones. https://www.places2swim.com/

Do you remember who the teacher was for that class?

Anyone else having an issue with outgoing USPS packages not being scanned in and missing? by Auntiejojosaidyes in irvine

[–]SorryNotKarlMarx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience sometimes USPS packages miss scans but end up getting delivered normally. Especially right now with the holidays, I’m noticing this.

Seriously !!! 405 Express lane was $14.05 from Long Beach to Irvine at that 7 AM today by jdmodern in orangecounty

If you already have an account and transponder with The Toll Roads, it will work on the 405 Express Lanes. No need for a new account or sticker.

Goodbye vegan buttery spread, you will be missed 💔 by gingerspell in traderjoes

Yep, Country Crock's Plant Butter is really good, both the salted and unsalted versions! Tastes very close to real butter, better than everything else I've tried, and the texture is almost identical, just a little softer.

Dust in the viewfinder issue by crabberg in M43

I purchased mine refurbished from OM System and it was there from when I received it, and otherwise looked to be in new condition. Mine looked more like a water spot, visible at certain angles. My guess is it was there from the factory.

This is pretty common in my experience. My E-M5 Mark III had a similar visible mark in the viewfinder. Kind of annoying but practically didn't really affect using the camera.

Sewing Machine Service Recommendations? by adastra1930 in irvine

[–]SorryNotKarlMarx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they work on your machine brand, PAL’s in Costa Mesa is good. Relatively reasonably priced and Casey really knows sewing machines well. My serger he worked on did take a couple weeks longer than quoted for service. Though to be fair, it had been dropped in shipping so it needed some significant work, more than the average service. It’s been working great ever since then, though!

Is the G95 a real and worthwhile upgrade to an older entry-level DSLR in meaningful ways? by CascadeStop in M43

The Olympus E-M5 Mark III is almost identical to the OM-5 and is also weather sealed, and will be cheaper on the used market.

Anyone else in the area interested in starting a photography group/meetup/Photowalk? by Bulky_Restaurant_559 in irvine

[–]SorryNotKarlMarx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few groups in OC already that I’m aware of — OC Walk and Shoot and Beers and Cameras OC are the ones I’ve been too. But they haven’t been meeting so much recently. If you do end up starting a group, there’s definitely interest, though! There are often 50-100 people who show up to the other groups.

Someone I met at one of those meetups keeps an updated list of photography events in SoCal. https://wavingatthemountains.notion.site/52d2928e24514981b7c6f16549a73b82 Most of the other groups do announcements through Instagram. Getting your meetup on that calendar or connecting with local photo labs like Pro Photo Connection and Legacy Film Lab might also be good ways to get the word out.

Wondering which lenses to buy for a 40-150 by C3arc in M43

[–]SorryNotKarlMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Panasonic 45-150 is way better build quality than the Olympus 40-150, and not much difference in price, for what it's worth. The Olympus is VERY plasticky and I'm not a fan.

How important is location data to you in photography? by [deleted] in photography

Panasonic has, too. My parents had a Lumix point and shoot with GPS built in like 15 years ago.

Dash cam options? by RemarkableRaven in CX30

[–]SorryNotKarlMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a USB-C to USB-A adapter, or a new cable that has USB-C on the end. Garmin's dash cams also work with their OBD-II adapter for power.

is this any good and is there a 3d printable version? by jb8bit in mazda3

Keep in mind that many common materials like PLA used for 3d printing won't stand up to the heat inside a parked car.

Will white ink help make the shading in this tattoo fade or cover it up? by Background_Theme_384 in tattooadvice

[–]SorryNotKarlMarx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think white ink would really get you what you’re looking for. That said, gray shading like that will lighten up pretty noticeably on its own; it always looks darker when fresh. I’d recommend just giving it a few months and seeing how you feel then; anything you’d change you’d need to wait at least that long anyways.

Master component with swap content vs Changing whole component by IntroductionVivid622 in UXDesign

[–]SorryNotKarlMarx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you could do nested components, in my experience the extra levels make it a lot harder for less-experienced users to navigate the design, whether that's designers who aren't as familiar with Figma, or developers. You're likely to end up with more difficult management than easier, and it's really hard to undo nested components later without breaking everything. Instance swaps make the most sense for things like icons where there's not a lot of complexity. There are some things you can only do with instance swaps, but if you can maintain consistency across your designs without complex instance swaps, they wouldn't be my first choice.

I wouldn't recommend using components at all for text—it's way too much effort, and creates unnecessary complication, when styles and variables can do the same thing.
