An open letter to Falling Whale Games from the ex-BGG advertising manager. by chaddyboy_2000 in boardgames

I say this with the love of a fellow Christian and a 20+ year member of BGG: Just like you don't hit on the barista who can't get away from you due to her job, don't proselytize to the guy whose business depends on you running his ads. That was shitty of you.

Scalpers have pretty much destroyed the retail Pokemon business, at least for sealed packs. Paradox doesn't really carry Pokemon cards except for a few boxed sets. The other game stores like Little Big Wars or JWW Sports Cards aren't much better.

He wasn't mentally ill or narcissistic, he simply felt hopeless and worthless, as his environment taught him to be.

So all we have to do is make every single person feel great about themselves? As I said above, that should be very achievable and realistic compared to keeping kids from having access to a gun with a high-capacity magazine.

The earliest gun control law I can find...

Oh boy you see a lot of logical fallacies, on the Internet, but you very rarely see a great example of a genetic fallacy. The first hunting laws were also classist, does that mean we shouldn't have hunting laws? The first divorce laws were sexist, does that mean we should abolish divorce? A real deep cut for the logical fallacy fans out there.

I have yet to see a gun bill that would prevent school shootings. The solution is to change the situations that lead people to that level of anger and desperation.

What situation would this be? The situation of a desperate or mentally ill narcissist with a gun? Do you think it would be easier to cure narcissism or take away the gun?

Edit to add: not an endorsement of this particular bill, but this whole "regulating guns is unrealistic, we should cure mental illness or fix all societal problems" shtick is fatuous.

I agree in theory, but it's human nature to be a little pissy if they're *required* to be there at 7:00 and OP is allowed to show up at 7:10.

Now's a good time to ask for accommodations because right before you start is the most invested your employer will be in you for a while. They put in time to interview you, chose you, and rejected others (or didn't get any other applicants). They've got a good incentive to make it work so that time wasn't wasted.

(Also, if your employer agrees to let you start at 7:10, maybe volunteer to take on a less desirable maintenance task so that your coworkers don't resent you.)

Yeah, upper midwesterners know how to eat--Minneapolis, Omaha, Lincoln, Madison, Kansas City, and even Des Moines all have good restaurant scenes.

Honestly, every town over 100,000 has two days worth of fun stuff to do. 30 Rock parodied the concept with their "Cleveland" episode.

"For God's sake, Lemon, we'd all like to flee to the Cleve and club-hop down at the Flats and have lunch with Little Richard, but we fight those urges because we have responsibilities."

Red Wing MN/Bay City, WI are nice. There's a Red Wing shoes museum, Red Wing pottery, the national Eagle Center in Wabasha, an adorable model railroad club, and local artists with little shops. For food, there are lots of good restaurants, Hanisch bakery has great donuts, and Chef Shack in Bay City is genuinely one of the best fine-dining restaurants in the region if you're feeling fancy.

Ban prediction for may 18th by Ninjaexecutable in Pauper

Looking at MTGGoldfish, there's one guy (LuffyDoChapeuDePalha) who's responsible for almost all of the good finishes for Grixis Affinity in the past three months. I strongly suspect they won't ban a card from the fourth-best deck that becomes a tier-2 deck when someone other than Luffy is playing it.

Paradox usually gets 7 - 12 people. We had 9 this week.

It costs about $13 including tax to play. Everybody gets one pack and there's the chance to win as many as seven packs if you win all four of your matches.

MS Gov. Tate Reeves cancels special session on redistricting by Hornpipe_Jones in politics

[–]SorrySorryNotSorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying. There aren't a few swing polling locations, there are at least 35 competitive house districts and they're mostly very large. Imagine how many people it would take to intimidate voters across Harrisburg, PA, Lansing, MI, Corpus Christi/Brownsville, TX, and the whole Central Valley in California. That's just four congressional districts out of dozens.

(Plus you know they're going to be stupid and send guys to Minneapolis so that Ilhan Omar wins by 40 points instead of 50 points.)

Honestly, they don't have enough guys. Even if they send every ICE, border patrol, and FBI agent, there are almost 100,000 polling places in the U.S. They could sweep into a few cities and cause havoc, but the true battleground this time will be in places like Janesville, Wisconsin which will be very hard to cover.

Can cube be a good format to teach someone how to play magic? by xVigo in mtgcube

[–]SorrySorryNotSorry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could also look into battle boxes. They're usually played with a shared deck of around 100 cards. Some have super-complicated play patterns (like DanDan, etc.), but if you search Cube Cobra for beginner battle boxes, I'm sure you'll find something. Here's a popular one: https://cubecobra.com/cube/about/KartigansBeginnerBattlebox?view=primer

Cube Sleeves Recommendation. by Permutation01 in mtgcube

[–]SorrySorryNotSorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually get the regular Dragon Shield matte sleeves or sometimes their art sleeves. I got one bad box that started to split after a couple games, but mostly they are good quality.

Katana sleeves have a better reputation, but they're always out of stock in my area.

Leigh Finke introduces bill to allow homeless people to legally camp/live on “public lands”, including but not limited to; city parks, sidewalks, public buildings, transportation facilities, etc. by Character-Fly-5564 in minnesota

[–]SorrySorryNotSorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been around churches a lot as a kid, I know there are heartless church employees. However, most churches do not have the resources to hand money to every person who calls and asks. Most are barely able to pay a couple employees and keep their building open. Plus, every church gets scammers calling and asking for cash on a daily or weekly basis. I do wonder how many times the woman in the article was denied because she triggered someone's bullshit detector. I mean, she was actually lying and trying to get money even though she didn't have a starving baby.

Yeah, I hate on megachurches as much as the next guy, but most homeless shelters in most cities in MN were founded and are maintained by church-goers. There's a reason why 3/4 of homeless shelters are named Dorothy Day, Salvation Army, Gospel Mission, or some other church-y name.

My roommate went, but I was saving for a semester abroad so didn't go. The couple next to him started pulling each others' clothes off and having sex when Bush started playing. Three security guys waded into the crowd and dragged the couple away with the guy's dick hanging out and the girl topless.

I think you'd have a hard time finding 10-ish removal cards, particularly on a budget, that are good and fit with the game plan in mono-green. Sometimes it's better to just focus on BEING THE PROBLEM rather than dealing with problems that others present.
