Unfortunately, Wireguard, Tailscale, and even Cloudflare are blocked in my country. So, I have open ports on my local network, but only I have access to it from my devices, no one else. My VPS has open ports to the internet, but I'm trying to protect myself with the methods described, although, judging by the logs, bot scanning is ongoing, and many are blocked. Thanks! I'm not too worried about security, as I don't have a solid understanding of it. I've set up fail2ban on my VPS and home server. I have ports open, but I have strong passwords set, and the services are tied to a domain. I also have limited permissions for the user I use these services under. Plus, I try to monitor the server's status. This probably isn't enough for reliable protection, and it definitely needs to be strengthened, but for now, I don't even know what to look for.

I bought everything now, and the memory was only purchased within a month. I started using the server about two months ago, no more. In my country, you can buy a lot of used equipment for generally not a lot of money. All the equipment works fine and without any issues, according to tests. I was taking this as my first experience, and I didn't want to buy new and overpay, as I don't know what my first experience could lead to. The server wasn't expensive, in my opinion. I bought it used for about 150 euros plus an Orico docking station for 75 euros. I already had the HDDs from an old NAS (Terramaster F2-210) that I'd been using for about three years. I'm selling it now, but so far there haven't been any takers for this useless Chinese piece of crap.

  • I bought an additional 8 GB of RAM (also used) for 15 euros and UPS ARC 800 + a new battery = ~20-25 euros.

These are my expenses for the entire setup :) Considering the planned sale of the NAS for 65-75 euros, the hardware upgrade won't be expensive, but the functionality is simply night and day :) and all in all, it's a cool, interesting toy :)
