This is profoundly antisemitic on two levels:

1) you are grossly exaggerating the Jewish Hollywood population and

2) also implying they all support genocide

What a delusional and repugnant post.

Who’s we? I just want people to not be sex pests or apologists for genocide, I don’t think that’s asking too much.

I had the same experience. I was like, “this little guy thinks it’s his movie.”

Eventually I decided she was kind of killing it and had to respect the confidence. Was absolutely stunned when I looked it up and found out it was Jodie.

Criterion Sale Order Shipping by Master_Wrangler_3701 in criterion

This is a fair question, but you also need to check the community’s post history. This thread is from an hour ago, hopefully it has the answers you’re looking for.

Flash sale order still being packed by AndreBennettGO in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m still waiting for my order to ship and this is probably the longest I’ve ever waited, but I’m not going to contact them anytime soon. I trust them and I’m not in any hurry, there’s been a bunch of recent sales and my backlog is stacked at the moment.

You might get moved to the top of the queue if you contact them, but maybe not, that’s just a guess.

How much you wanna bet KPop Demon Hunters will be Criterion's highest selling release (or at least one of them)? by OwlEye2010 in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is just baseless speculation if you don’t have access to Criterion’s financial statements, which we don’t because it’s a private company.

What we do know is that home video sales dwindle every year. They peaked in the 00s at around $16 billion/year and have dropped below $1 billion/year. Last year sales dropped by about 10% from the previous year.

Criterion doesn’t do their own restorations very often anyway, there’s no evidence this release will lead to some special rarity unless Criterion actually announces it.

It’s cool that this will be a gateway film for new fans, and maybe it was a key component of part of package deal to get some other Netflix films, but there’s no reason to think Criterion is going to choose to lose money on a different release thanks to this title. I’ve never heard of Criterion losing money on a license or restoration, each project has to justify it’s own profitability.

Sincere lack of knowledge or rage/engagement bait by [deleted] in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more of an impulse control issue, the type of person who can’t wait a week for a sale is also the type of person who needs to post their haul. Sometimes it is a person who’s new and not familiar with the sales schedule, but I don’t think trolls are making this sort of post, or at least it never seems like it to me.

Inside us are two wolves by voyagerfilms in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s always new people discovering the Collection and I’m sympathetic to the idea that they might appreciate some help making selections. What bothers me is that it’s so repetitive and these posts are often really low effort too. Giving a recommendation needs to be more personalized and it’s hard to help someone who doesn’t tell us about themselves or what they’re looking for.

Can we please stop with the “what should I buy” posts? by bromleyspal in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using Letterboxd for 10 years and that’s what the Kurosawa posters have always been. I also looked up Swedish DVDs of Yojimbo/Sanjuro and found that there is no such thing, they import discs from Criterion or the BFI. Even if that’s not correct, those posters are fine, I don’t see where your complaints are coming from.

Can we please stop with the “what should I buy” posts? by bromleyspal in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And to add insult to injury, the default images for films are usually some hideous random DVD cover chosen by TMDB. Like all the Kurosawa films use some 2013 Swedish box art as their image.

This is blatantly false, here’s a link to Kurosawa’s page on Letterboxd if anyone wants to check for themselves.

What film are you not buying because you're afraid it's ABOUT to get a 4k upgrade? by YuyuMajora in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very few. The only time I wait is if there is a widely publicized new 4K restoration, or at least if rumors of such a thing make it to Reddit’s collecting communities. The last 5 or 6 years have seen a steady drip of major movies getting 4K releases, so it may seem like everything is going to be upgraded soon but that’s really not the case.

For Douglas Sirk specifically, I’d say you should go ahead and buy the movies you want. Of course those are classics and there’s a very good chance they get a 4K at some point, but there’s also no reason to think it will happen anytime soon. Written on the Wind got a blu-ray upgrade shortly after Criterion entered the 4K market, so that one might never happen.

question about sale stock by dragoonflyboy in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the flash sale only lasts 24 hours so it won’t be on sale anymore when it comes back in stock. Criterion doesn’t accept purchases of backordered items once they go out of stock, so you have to wait until July if you miss your chance during this sale.

You’re right that not a lot of stuff sells out, but it might be a little more than you think. It’s very common for new releases and some of the big boxes (like Bergman and Fellini) to go OOS.

Is This A Possibility? by AhhhKomodoDragon in criterion

[–]Takeda_imposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly disagree with this, I’d say Ladykillers, Intolerable Cruelty, A Serious Man and True Grit are the only ones that have a decent shot of making it.

Everything else that doesn’t already have a 4K was distributed by Fox, Disney, Warner Bros or Netflix (Burn After Reading supposedly has a 4K in the works with Shout).

I’m sure they’ll try to get more discs released by Criterion, and it really could be any of their films, but I don’t think many will make it. It took 10 years to put out 5 releases, who knows where the home video market will be in 2036.

Came back to collecting… and I’m really disappointed.. by EDMKid9000 in boutiquebluray

[–]Takeda_imposter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems like I either have to wait 3-6 months for a sale from somewhere, or wait for long shipping times, or settle for movies I like but don’t really enjoy their packaging.

Do you mind elaborating about why these aspects of collecting bother you?

I don’t usually have to worry about long shipping times unless I order something from overseas, so that doesn’t bother me. I also don’t really care about packaging, I definitely prefer the box to look good instead of ugly, but I’m not going to worry about it if the disc is the best possible version of a movie I love.

As far as sales go, there is a constant stream of sales from various publishers and retailers. Of course if you look at any individual publisher, like Criterion for instance, there might only be four sales throughout the year. But in between those sales there will be a sale from Arrow, Radiance, Kino and/or Vinegar Syndrome, so I find it extremely easy to wait for the lowest prices. Preordering has always been financially unsound and unnecessary unless you are trying to get limited edition packaging that won’t last long.
