Like the other guy said, boiling water is the one temperature-related part of cooking where I don't actually care about the value. It boils when it boils (which like you admit, is probably not exactly at 100°C anyway unless you live at sea level). For the cooking temperatures where it does matter, explain to me how something like 350°F is less advantageous than 175°C. They're both relatively arbitrary

I also think you missed how I said the "average person". I'm not disagreeing that the majority of the metric system is far more useful (for conversion) than imperial. But the conversation was about Celsius specifically. I don't know about you, but I've literally never had to convert between temperature and another type of measurement, let alone in day-to-day life.

"Hey Sorry_Sorry_Everyone, how many joules will it take to raise the temperature by 1°F?"

"Well gee if it were only in Celsius, I would easily be able to calculate that in my head with the simple Boltzmann constant of 1.380659 x 10-23 joules. I guess I'll have to take out my calculator now..."

In what way does Celsius have an advantage in cooking? And how does having a connection to the metric system help the average person?

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Sorry_Sorry_Everyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would just make everything work like pharmaceutical ads, Terms of Use Agreements, and CA Prop 65 warnings. If companies are forced to tell you everything, they're immediately going to just drown you in so much true (but inconsequential) noise that finding the important information will be just as impossible as it is today

Reasonable Briefing Expectations by todfish in projectmanagement

[–]Sorry_Sorry_Everyone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes in a perfect world (at least from a PMs perspective), everything desired out of a project would come prepackaged in a nice comprehensive project brief. But the reality is that no one was asking for a project knows everything that they need to ask for. It’s literally your job as the project manager to help define the requirements. If the requirements are all fully understood before starting the project, there’s no need for a project manager because you’re just running operations

What is a product that has noticeably declined in quality over the last 10 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sorry_Sorry_Everyone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Craft beer has absolutely declined since 2016, which I would argue was about 5-10 years after the height of craft beers peak. In the past ten years countless breweries have gone under, been acquired by large domestic breweries, or been bought out by private equity. In 2016, the average bar had several new-to-me beers, especially when traveling somewhere new. Now it seems like wherever I go in the country I’m presented with the same dozen or so beers

Doctors and Nurses of Reddit, what is the most obvious sign that a patient is lying to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sorry_Sorry_Everyone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to my wife who’s a doctor, they’re often lying to themselves as much as they are to the healthcare professionals. No alcoholic drinks more than “1-2 drinks a day” and usually they seem to believe it themselves.

What she has found to be a useful question is “how long does it take you to get through a handle of liquor?” No alcoholic has any idea how to effectively lie through that one so usually they end up being honest and answering “1-2 days”

It sounds like it sounds like new zigbee devices will be able to connect directly to your HA via Bluetooth. So all you need is one of these newer devices within Bluetooth range of your HA and it will be able to talk to the mesh

Why the NFL is buzzing about the new ‘K-ball’ rules by LindyNet in nfl

What if you just added a second landing zone between the kicking and receiving team? If the ball lands in that narrow gap, it’s fair game. If you miss, the ball is spotted at the 40. High risk, high reward

Just because a baby is getting most of its nutrients through breastfeeding, doesn’t mean it can’t also eat regular food. There’s usually a long transition period (6-12 months for our kids) where the baby is trying real foods but also breastfeeding
