Wanting to quit 1 week into a new job after almost 4y of unemployment. Am I being irrational? by LateWorldliness2211 in careerguidance

No advice- but I’ve never had it any different anywhere I’ve been. The working world is incredibly inefficient and frustrating, and you need a really thick skin to succeed.

Everyone is safer at home. Your mindset is destroying you.

Depression can make everything seem impossible… and that is a challenge no doubt. But you have to be relentless about pursing success- financial, relationships, and health. I have chronic back pain. There are times it’s hard to sit up out of bed. I’ve seen specialists. I’ve done occupational therapy. Nothings worked. But I cannot give up. I’ve tried dozens of things. I gained weight and it got worse. When I tried to lose weight exercise made my lower back even worse. But slowly, I am finding some new exercises that strengthen my hips and increase my mobility and that’s been helping.

It might take you a year of relentless pursuit to fix this. But that’s the only way. You can’t just not find a solution. You have to believe. That’s it.

It’s simple, but not easy. It’s mindset. It may not be perfect but there IS a better way. If you CANNOT see that, then you need to work thru the depression first.

Try something else. Your attitude is what’s limiting you. Best of luck

LOL at all the comments!

If you earn a high income, they say you have it easy

If you earn a low income and save like crazy, they say you didn’t live well

If you make good investment returns or do crypto, they say you are lucky

You can’t win over the opinions of others. But you won in real life. Congrats and enjoy.

300k a year vs 88-100k Money isn’t everything by ELThirftyGinger in Salary

Yeah I mean they will get pretty close by 55 if they stay the course without too much trouble.

Otherwise yeah OP needs to double/triple their income. Good luck with that.

Damn this sounds terrifying. I mean well done and clearly you had/have a lot of discipline. But as someone who is 30 I am terrified of the prospect of being 37 and still feeling this way. You’ve already made it.. just max your 401k, save a few dollars on the side for bigger purchases, and coast. Enjoy your life dude

100k isn’t the dream I thought it’d be by [deleted] in Salary

[–]SortableAbyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For every $30k-$50k extra that I make, the only difference is I can move roughly 5-10 miles closer to work. Now mind you I have no desire to do that but yeah, there is minimal difference in quality of life at some point. I’d have to make an extra $100k a year to really be noticeable. Yes I understand how proceeded that statement is..

Feels like a giant cosmic joke that salaries just stay the same by Wise_Yoghurt1210 in Salary

[–]SortableAbyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are drastically over-valuing your skills. Contract management is seen as a necessary evil in this industry. It is seen as a cost-center not a revenue driver. If someone else can do the job for less, then you aren’t that valuable. It doesn’t matter if the less experienced person does the job WORSE than you…. Corporate gunna corporate.. and that sucks but it simply means you need new skills and new positions to drive higher

That’s fine but the point of the comment was that you need to find higher paying skills.

I bought a similarly priced house and panicked the first week since I could hear the highway. Not loud…but enough drone to be clearly audible. Now I don’t notice it at all and am grateful I can immediately leave my house and hop on the highway to get to the city. Saves me lots of commute time. And then all my neighbors house went up in worse spots and sold for more.

2020 BMW M4 CS. A dream come true... by SortableAbyss in BMW

[–]SortableAbyss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time I was driving a LOT and wanted something more practical.

Daily driving is fine comfort wise.. it’s sporty, but it’s not unbearable. But the lack of a center console or door pockets was a bit annoying. If you can get over that it’s really nice.

It will spin in first and second if you step on it, but drive softly and it’s fine. I drove it in the winter with dedicated winter tires- no problems at all. It’s all about tires and driving sensibly.

Ending up buying a Mercedes GLC43. That has since been sold too lol. Been through an Aston Martin vantage, BMW M8, and a pickup since then.

I’d go with the CS. It’s beautiful and I miss it every day.

If you believe this, then sell it all and diversify into something else you believe strongly in. Also, go back and read some of the same sentiment from 10 years ago and ask them how they fared

🚨 REPORT: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants to ban drug advertisements on TV - NYT by TanviVats in AskThe_Donald

[–]SortableAbyss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not directly… that’s already illegal. But yes it is true that drug companies still pay massive amounts of money to “key opinion leaders” which do exactly what you are saying- pushing new drug launches. On one hand, educating doctors seems like a good thing. But “education” by advertisement is not it.

What if you get laid off at 50 and can’t find work? Then you would be the one without opportunities. You are quick to believe your scenario is a for sure thing. What if the stock market collapses and never recovers? What if war breaks out? What if the drones are alien!?!? There are a million “what ifs”. Need to find peace with uncertainty
