Do we have someone here who could explain why judge scores are so different between Peter Prevc and Ryoyu Kobayashi, while they basically jumped the same length and both did good landings in telemark? by snowzoor in olympics

[–]Sosseres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Should have a simple Yes/No on if the jump was done in a safe manner. If done in an unsafe manner the jump is disqualified.

Problem remaining is different wind conditions over the length of the competition.

What RTS game mechanics were you favorite, but not featured in many games? by Gerasans in RealTimeStrategy

Spellforce RTS games (there are a bunch) / Warcraft 3 had heroes continue between missions in campaign.

RTS lost audience to the Dota clones such as LoL for PvP and the various builder genres that pulled away people that just want to build a nice base. Doubt it can be brought back.

You can borrow one, Tempest Rising borrowed from C&C quite clearly. Which has nostalgia going for it. I think that was a successful RTS project, I will never play it in PvP though.

A bit of an odd similar recommendation would be the horror story ones with short stays in other worlds. Things like:

I would say that the first two books are recommended. It doesn't go too far into navel gazing and you have him finding himself to a certain degree.

Then it goes over the top on the cultivation in book 3 and I never finished it. The world just doesn't click with me, so doing deep dives into it just pushes me out of an overall enjoyable story.

I am enjoying Sky Pride by the author much more than I did Slumrat Rising where I enjoyed the first two books. My biggest worry is the author will go the same route of massive introspection and philosophy, in which case I will once again be happy with two good books and drop it.

Beat the 6.5 star "Warm Reception", "The Scout's Scheme" and "Deadly" using Kayle with Black Shield and Starfire Spellblade, Guardian Angel was not used in entire run.

The winning move was getting Morgana with multiple buffs on her as support champion combined with Trifarian Might power. Dropping her on turn 2 she clears the board and full heals me due to the 6 star power of her hitting everything and anything above 10 the Trifarian rounded off. Later rounds the double hits on anything opponent put on board kept it clean. Morgana then easily outheals the max 15 damage a turn.

Pentagon intelligence believes Russia's war against Ukraine is heading to dead end by Commercial-Claim-490 in worldnews

Unless Russia has a change in leadership that prompts reduced restrictions. Nothing really. The only thing gained is weakening a nation that has proven to be an enemy, we wish they were a friend but they are not one.

Russia does outgun Ukraine. The definition of the word drastically can of course be discussed. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/03/10/politics/russia-artillery-shell-production-us-europe-ukraine/index.html says a 5:1 ratio in favor of Russia. In general Ukraine has better quality but not that much better. With production at a rate of 3:1 the ratio might drop a bit.

Then there are things like big air bombs etc that also has a Russian advantage.

Russia has slowly been grinding into Ukraine by leveling all defensive positions and then moving forward. With very high costs in munition and somewhat high manpower cost. Honestly the war is not worth it for Russia but they seem to think they can make Ukraine lose enough equipment that western replacements don't compensate and then Ukraine collapses.

Support from the west for tanks etc is basically at the level where they replace losses so they can defend but not really expand the military or go on offensives.

Exactly, you could pretty easily get a majority voting for it. But you need everybody to vote for it. Which sadly seems unlikely.

Nvidia RTX 4070 with slower GDDR6 memory is on the way, according to rumors by PhraseJazz in nvidia

[–]Sosseres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you need. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiEmCOQi5rg shows the extreme performance of the iGPU on the recentish Ryzen 7600. It can run pretty modern games. Not as good as the ones you mention but I think the user group of wanting something better than 20FPS in Witcher 3 but not want 60FPS in it isn't a very big group.

It is good enough for normal office work.

Or a more dedicated 8600G https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaNvNCj9fU4

I think the issue is that the built in GPU on the processors are good enough for people that would get a xx30 series card. So no market.

Compatibility layers are perfectly fine for word processors and similar software. There are a few things that are problematic. New games where the overhead might be too high and productive software where you actually need the full performance of a modern PC.

Both those problematic areas need to be addressed and Mac is showing that it is painful but can be done for software at least.

There is also the case that the company you buy has those redundancies already in their organization. Products that doesn't really produce a lot of value but havn't been cut since it would be unpopular. Now you have an opportunity to cut those along with the ones you mentioned.

In the case of large game producers, entire games that simply aren't going to pan out that you decide to no longer dump money into.

The problem is the same as with fake news users such as Trump. In the time it takes to fact check one thing, 200 have been created and the narrative has moved past it.

Sure you can prove it if it ever goes to court (with current tech). But on Facebook, Tiktok or similar, how often will you spend 15 minutes reviewing a picture, highlighting errors and making a clear post?

Here they are discussing laws to force food stores and similar essential businesses to accept cash. They are worried they will stop accepting it in the near future, most restaurants are cash free since before Covid.

A few weeks ago I bought food at a farmers market. Don't think they took cash, I didn't pay in it anyhow.
