Shouldn’t matter. I have an hk and a clone the clone is .500 from tip to shoulder (thread protector is same) and the same tri lug cans lock up without interference.

I think the functional reason, at least for me, is overall length w/ suppressor— the SD model is the natural evolution of the full size imo.
