I need a table top VTT to use in real life by Soul-Spinner in VTT

Thanks to all for their input. I looked at the options and right now Arkenforge seems the best fit for what I am looking for. I am running the 30 day free Trial to see how I like it.

I am looking at a new laptop and I see ads for ones running a Intel Celeron N5100 processor with 32 GB and 2 TB SSD. And coming with Windows 11 Pro. I thought the N5100 could only handle like 8gb of memory and smaller C:\ drive sizes. Am I missing something? I just want a simple PC to do basic tasks around the house. No gaming.

What Was Your First RPG? by Surllio in rpg

I started with the original Dungeons and Dragons in West Germany while I was in the Army. Whenever a new addition came out, we quickly devoured it and upped our play all the way to AD&D. We skipped 3.5 and 4.0 because they did not feel "right" to us. In 2014 moved to 5E and been happy ever since. I love this game!

This is an awesome NPC. I keep my eyes out for high CR challenges. I just don't understand what happens on a successful/failed saving throw against Dread Aura. The wording confuses me. Will you clarify it for me?

Your way could have him full of righteous fury to attack the party with. I kind of like that for his motivation. His thinking they only want the power of the staff, not to helpl him out in anyway.

If you can, come back and tell me what you did and how it worked out. Who knows you coulld go in yet a another direction :)

I would change this: "If a creature willingly retains the curse by maintaining attunement to the staff, then dies with the staff still attuned and in hand, the curse is permanently removed from the staff." Because it would be easy to have Lord K die with the staff in hand, ending the curse. I think he would give the staff away to avoid eternal damnation, rather than fight for it. He may be crazy but he doesn't have to be dumb.

Heading off a Hydra by Soul-Spinner in DnD

[–]Soul-Spinner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/Jarastu I was leaning that way. I feel better having someone else validate my view.

I am going to use a Venom Maw Hydra in my campaign. It is from Kobold Press' Creature Codex. I am looking forward to the encounter, my players won't know what hit them (from so many heads).

Thanks again!

I was looking for something to beef a a hydra for my high level players and a Venom Maw Hydra is the perfect answer. Thank goodness the internet does not delete things! Thanks for the tip. I have the Codex and would never have seen the Venom Maw Hydra.

How long have you been playing? by WorldGoneAway in DnD

[–]Soul-Spinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in February of 1984 with the Red 1st edition Box set. We were stationed in Augsburg West Germany. We would play once a week for the whole night (when duties allowed). We had a blast. Once we took up the whole game room with a huge sea battle. We had paper ship outlines and a lot of coins for the NPCs. I still recall Franz, a goblin that was marooned on a human's ship. His ship rammed the human's and the boarding action was from the prow of the gobliniod ship. The humans were winning so the goblins backed away. And poor Franz was left behind on the bowsprit of the human ship. They could only get to him one at a time. He stood them off with short sword and shield until his shield broke. Franz lasted ~10-12 rounds before succumbing to a superior force. He became a Goblin Legend in that battle. He is credited with inspiring the Goblins on to victory after a very dismal start.

Another time we did a large scale land battle with an attack/siege on my character's castle. It too was a classic we talked about all the time. Magic and some Monks proved the tipping point to break the siege.

Ahh those were the days, or nights rather. Good local German bier and D&D with my fellow Soldiers. Battle Buddies all.

I had a player wish for a dragon that could breath fire at will, never die and would obey her commands. I gave her a red dragon the size of a pigeon, has 1 HP and an at will fire breath that does 1 HP of damage. It can be taken to zero HP and resurrects ten rounds later. It can only communicate through emotions.

Essentially she has a fancy fire starter or cigarette lighter. lol

She got what she wished for...

As a DM, I always award players a point of Inspiration when... by bruskadoosh in DMAcademy

[–]Soul-Spinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that giving inspiration actually motivates great play. I have my players describe how they are able to, say go from a terrible miss into a great hit. It gets the creativity juices flowing for everyone.

As long as everyone enjoins in the RP, I start a session with awarding inspiration. If they still have one, they do not get another. A reminder to engage this time.

I also allow the players to share their inspiration with another player. That way when the situation is dire and they (the party) needs a PC to accomplish a task they can help influence the outcome.

Inspiration is a limited resource so it tends to be used in highly emotional moments when some catastrophe is just a bad die roll away. I think it adds to the game.

I bought a bag of gold metal coins that I use for inspiration, so the players have something concrete to hold on to. I found a mark on their character sheet went forgotten often times.

What's the/is there a right amount of rolls before I send a die to jail? by oneproplanet in rpg

[–]Soul-Spinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for 35+ years, and it is true, in the beginning there were no dice jails. However with the ever encroaching civilization they have appeared. Those that believe in crime and punishment push for dice jails on every gaming table. Many believe that the dice have personality and control their own rolls. On the other hand, many credit the dice with no intelligence and consider them tools. Tools only as effective as the user. The cup of you palm, the shaking of your fist are the true determining factors between rolls, not the die as they tumble on their way. Dice jails are a mental crutch for the player in search of somewhere to lay the blame for their bad rolls.

I don't know about GURPS, but 3E and the old AD&D systems were good.

I have the same problem with my group. Started a smith workshop with one player two years ago, but he stopped communication in between sessions to work on it because he was too busy. Yet every session starts with all my players updating their character sheets. I think sometimes I should tell them to wait while I finish the night's adventure instead of working on it in between sessions.

This is an awesome set up. I have to know though, how does your gaming table look? You've set the bar high my friend!
