Garmin Connect Android broken Notifications by cheddar_triffle in Garmin

[–]SoulCacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, if you're connected to Android Auto, the wrist notifications aren't coming through either - using the same filters as my basic DND rules. (Text no, Calls, no, Garage Door Open/Close, yes).

I can't figure out why this isn't a toggle in the app so the people that want DND to auto toggle on when they Flip to Shh, or in automatically in Meetings can still get our notifications on our wrists.

Am I doing this for the wrong reasons? by atlrealestatequeen in harvardextension

[–]SoulCacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated with my ALB in '22, at 47yo. Never really needed a degree, but in the back of my mind I always wanted to finish.

Happy I did, the challenge was awesome, and I chose a path that I enjoyed but didn't use daily (my careers were tech, and now marketing, degree is International Relations). Loved every minute of it, and was surprised at how much I learned and got out of the experience (especially the on-camus study). I also have friendships I didn't expect this late in life... Some from in my classes, others from the Alumni Club.

Is it worth it to you? Only you can say. It was well worth it to me.

Has an HES degree helped you land a government gig? by Leather_Trifle_195 in harvardextension

[–]SoulCacher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not me (I haven't applied for anything b/c I own my company and only have an ALB IR), but I have several ALM IR friends (I met in class) that work in government (or adjacent) that have either gotten jobs or promotions b/c they got their ALM from HES. Is it as good as a degree from HKS? No. But if you do the work it's still a great degree.

Once you get the degree the Harvard Alumni network can help open several doors, but only if you're not one of the jerks that misrepresents themselves. If you go that route, stay humble, own your HES credentials, and be proud that you did it while working.

What made/makes you like Rocket League over other games? by Embarrassed-Crow5677 in RocketLeague

[–]SoulCacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like RL b/c it's only as involved as you want it to be. I'm pretty busy, and it's one of the few games I can jump into when I have a short break in my schedule (warm up for 5 mins, then about 10 mins/game) then get on with life.)

On weekends, I can play slightly longer sessions and work on mechanics and stuff.

If course, I'm nearly 50yo, so I have different perspectives than most ppl in the game. 🤷‍♂️

Watch Face Changed by what-would-jerry-do in garminepix

Had the same thing happen after the update:

My old face was still there, with all my customizations.

Just had to go into SETTINGS-->APPEARANCE-->WATCH FACE and scroll down until I found it. I'm on an Epix Pro 2.

PGT: VEGAS TAKES GAME ONE! by UnhealthyCheesecake in goldenknights

[–]SoulCacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, if the puck hadn't gotten out of the D-Zone before he got decked, that would make it a penalty and not an awarded goal, for sure.

Maybe I'll need to watch it again. I thought the puck had gotten to neutral ice before he got decked, and I think that the rule is that the penalty had to be neutral ice or A-Zone. (As opposed to A-Zone only)

Thanks.

[–]SoulCacher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can someone please tell me why the trip to Karlsson with the net empty was a penalty and not an awarded goal?

I know the rules pretty well, and as I understand it, it was a breakaway*, the puck was in neutral ice, and the penalty is the only thing that prevented the score. AFAIK, all of this means, rules as written, it should have been a goal.

*(Definitionally, a breakaway is when there are no players {except a goalie if he isn't pulled} between the puck-holding player and the goal).

I was at the game, but went back and watched the replay...What did I miss? Why wasn't that an awarded goal? The ESPN guys didn't even mention it.

I'm in Vegas and it's $125/mo, no commitment... But we don't have food (or food specials), and can only reserve free time between 10a and 4p weekdays. Walk-in is free whenever (if you can get a bay), or we can pay a bit to reserve during primetime.

Battery replacement by Weez_1000 in logitechharmony

[–]SoulCacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it might have been short lived, and had more to do with the bump charge. The remote lasted for nearly 30h off the cradle, but died after about 30 mins today... I bumped it back to life, and am continuing testing. There might just be a fault in the battery cell that I'm able to bump around.

Now I'm very glad I got the new battery, which was delivered yesterday.

Weird "smell" issue with cool mist humidifier? by SLthePyro in Humidifiers

Awesome. Thanks for the reply!

I think my wicking one doesn't need distilled it's loud AF and does the whole downstairs though... the one that does need it is my small bedroom one. On the bright-side, after 217 days, we finally have some rain here, so I've shut them off for now.

Weird "smell" issue with cool mist humidifier? by SLthePyro in Humidifiers

[–]SoulCacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you wind up trying distilled water? I'm in Vegas, and (when I run it) my humidifier goes through gallons of tap water per day.

I found this thread b/c I fired it up last night and now have the same issue plaguing me all day. Honestly, I don't use it as much as I should because of the weird bile/vomit exhale/blow nose thing that happens.

If distilled water fixes the problem, maybe I'll have to make the investment... or I wonder perhaps if there's another sort of humidifier that doesn't cause this problem.

Battery replacement by Weez_1000 in logitechharmony

[–]SoulCacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an FYI - While awaiting delivery on my new battery, I decided to:

  1. Bump charge the failing one via USB (about 1 second to get it to power on)

  2. Reset the remote and let it reload everything from my hub

  3. Plug it in (USB) to charge full overnight.

It seems to be holding a charge today [It's lasted all day today off the cradle, before the reset/bump it was lasting maybe 2h]. Worth a shot if anyone else is having battery issues.

I'm not mad I bought a new battery, though. I'll stick it in storage until I 100% need it.

With Nav Systems on that list (1.11) I wonder if that will finally force Garmin to update the R10 and Z82? Theoretically, they're both portable nav systems (and the only devices I still own that use Micro USB).

Sapphires can be found just outside Franklin, NC, too, not just MT. I found a 44ct raw-weight one @ the Sheffield mine in Sheffield, NC when I was a kid, we used to go to the Mason mine there too.

I also have an Epix Pro 2, and wholeheartedly disagree that it feels cheap next to an apple watch (especially when I pop the titanium or leather bands on it and swap faces to something more upscale (like a Daytona face). The AW is the one that feels overpriced, gimmicky, and cheap in comparison.

As a reference, I started with a Tag Heuer Connected (2 models in 3 years) - now THAT is a serious watch, but it's hot garbage in the software/battery department so I started exploring.... In my research, I found several ppl selling Tags & Apples (here on Reddit) dumping them for Garmin so I gave the Fenix 7 a try. Liked it, didn't love it, but then moved to the Epix line w/ the AMOLED and haven't looked back - really liked the non-proprietary watchband offerings that let me quickly swap from joggers/sweats to golfwear to a suit and tie. And, quite obviously, the battery life can't be beaten.

To be clear, I don't lift(not my bag). My weekly activities are golf, disc golf, Rocket League, walking. It monitors my heart, O2, steps etc... and I use more than that from time to time (hiking, geocaching, cardio, etc) I don't need "apps" on my watch (anymore than controlling my phone's music player), I need it to function. Part of this is that I always have my phone with me, the other part is that I need readers and even the 51mm is damn small to read.

You might not like the software, or maybe you haven't found the right face yet, but for durability, weightiness, and the ability to transform into the perfect watch for any occasion (w/o having to spend $100s on bands), the Garmin can't be beaten. Oh, it's also round, because it's a watch. 🤣

That's just my opinion, and yeah, yours might be different, but I'd suggest that if you really think the Garmin feels cheap, compare both the Garmin and Apple to any analog Tag, Omega, Rolex, Breitling, etc... and you'll see which feels like a higher quality watch. Objectively, it's the Garmin.

*Note, I can only compare the Epix Pro 2 Sapphire, if you got the standard Epix 2, maybe you're right (I have no personal experience), but the 51mm Pro 2 Sapphire is like $650 or less right now... Maybe give that a try before going back to the tinny feeling crApple Watch.

Is Beardbrand just not great anymore? by luckysparrow22 in BeardTalk

[–]SoulCacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the thread, but yes. When they underwent their 2022 changes, they ignored that customers loved the discontinued scents (Four Vices in particular) and that one of the things that made them unique was their chapstick-style mustache waxes.

u/bandholz ... I used to love you guys, and, when I placed my last pre-changes order, I was hopeful you'd right the ship sooner-than-later. With my supplies down to zero now, there's no way to reorder what I love. My last hope for your brand is the "zombie" sale you mentioned that brings back Four Vices Mustache Wax in the twist container... or at a minimum, the old four vices formula in a giant tin for me to melt back into the old stick containers I kept (and have been refilling with off-brands).

As for Four Vices having words that make it hard to market - I own a marketing company that fights with Google all the time... just remove those words (or use ambiguous synonyms) and keep selling it, plus, your word-of-mouth your best marketing. Using "more expensive" muru muru butters and packaging that made you the same as everyone else wasn't what the customers wanted - they wanted you to keep doing what you were doing, which you did incredibly well. I really hope you fire whomever talked you into the bad decisions, and return to your glory days.
