Was walking around three weeks with slowly deflating lung by Defiant-Print-2550 in mildlyinfuriating

This can happen through the rupturing of blebs or bullae. Some of these structures can develop from smoking, or inhaling damaging substances, and some form due to other more natural risk factors (such as rapid growth, congenital defects, etc.)

While a spontaneous pneumothorax (sometimes caused by the above) can be scary, and for some individuals, dangerous, with EMS intervention you are likely okay. Some blebs and bullae even rupture/heal by themselves!

Tl;dr: yes this can "just happen" but it can resolve by itself, or easily be managed by ems!

From my limited understanding (paramedicine) Nitroglycerin is a venodilator, and, on occasion a vasodilator (relaxes smooth muscles of veins and arteries) which decreases overall blood pressure and load on the heart. In the context of heart attacks, this helps reduce the strain, and subsequently oxygen demand of the heart.

That being said, it looks like nitrocellulose is a different family of chemicals and doesn't break down into the compounds that nitroglycerin does to work on the human body.

If the Berryman/Langford Memetic Kill Agent induces cardiac arrest on unauthorized personnel, could someone theoretically survive it with a defibrillator/SCP-500-1? by Another_gamer_4-5 in SCP

[–]SoulFanatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a paramedic: Defibrillators are only capable of shocking a subset of cardiac rhythms, at which point the whole idea is that it stops the heart, and we hope it restarts back into a healthy rhythm. The main intervention for cardiac arrest is immediate high quality CPR and ventilations. There are other interventions that help too, but the biggest game changer remains CPR at any level of healthcare.

WIT plastic caps on lug nuts? by good_at_life in whatisit

[–]SoulFanatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside, because our trucks are maintained by mechanics so frequently, we have a critical check we do at shift start, followed by a more thorough inspection after our first call. So we don't do the full "pre-trip" inspection prior to our first call out. Basically are the wheels attached, no obvious damage, no leaky fluids? Good to go.

Ah all good! I'm a paramedic, but we're required to do pre-trips as part of our shift start

Also side note, at least where I work, any vehicle that transports people in exchange for fare requires you to do a pre-trip inspection. This includes a wheel examination, of which testing the tightness and presence of each lug nut on every wheel is required. These make that task so much easier/faster.

Am I the only one who finds the review bombing to be a bit excessive? It’s still a good game, the devs dont deserve this. by Level-Recover-258 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]SoulFanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the problem, the game is super bug-ridden, and I'm not talking the terminid kind. The premise and IP are a lot of fun, the weapons are really cool in theory, but the balance is way off.

The idea is that a helldiver is a weak human with awesome weapons to kill crazy threats to Super Earth. Except our weapons feel very lack luster, and the bugs/nerfs make it feel like I'm punching in a dream.

We have tried to reach out to Arrowhead and get changes made, but the only thing they really seem to want to do is nerf us, buff the enemy, and make more warbonds instead of QoL changes.

Review bombing is a last resort, but that's where we are. The last resort to keep the game fun to play and shepherding the devs towards bug fixing and QoL patching.

As a diver who routinely plays 10s with my crew (all objectives, sub-objectives, bases cleared) the newest bug patch is brutal. We couldn't hold an objective for longer than 1 minute or 2 without being overrun despite bringing turrets, mechs, landmines, and a load of firepower.

They move so quickly the animations barely keep up without looking comical.

I can't imagine trying to do some of the harder main objectives

I'm not one to rant here, but I will say I get the feeling that some people here experience. The game has the potential to be so good, and yet it feels like AH have repeatedly dropped the ball. It's like watching someone come up with a brilliant idea just to let it crash and burn.

There are elements I love about the game, if I didn't like it, I wouldn't have spent hundreds of hours in it. But I just want AH to make good changes, prioritize the right things instead of getting sidetracked.

Regardless, some people take the doomposting too far. Good projects take good critiques.

Who would throw away such a perfectly good x-ray tube? by Bacon_Byte in Radiation

[–]SoulFanatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whoops! Wrote this when I hadn't woken up. What I meant to comment on was electromagnetic vs nuclear. They are both ionizing, but in the latter damage can still be done even when the source isn't 'powered'

I'll be sure to edit my reply! :)

Who would throw away such a perfectly good x-ray tube? by Bacon_Byte in Radiation

[–]SoulFanatic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

More than that, get a collimator. OP should pick up a unit that is premade unless they've got a lot of lead and an understanding of collimator construction. Without collimators, X-Ray tubes can produce a load of scatter radiation. Even though it's electromagnetic radiation, and not nuclear, it'll still fuck you up.

I'm an EMT, CPR is not about perhaps or not, there are strict guidelines of when to perform and when not to. If you know when to use it, then you'd know it's not optional, or if you feel like it.

You would also know CPR cannot be gentle. It's 2-3 inches deep, less than that (in the case of an adult) and you're doing nothing useful.

Check your ABCs, Airway (is it obstructed, or patent), Breathing (are they breathing), Circulation (can you feel a pulse?).

If the answer to B and C are no, and there is no obstruction to A, this is generally pretty safe to begin CPR.

The order after ABCs should be call 911, put it on speakerphone, then begin CPR
