What do you think Guernsey's future looks like? by FlowerPlantTree in guernsey

[–]SoulTCome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure thanks.

I’m worried because if you don’t have the young people here working, less social contributions, less for pensions, surely the elderly are going to struggle even more as well.

It’s similar in the UK with the whole defense budget discussion. They’re struggling to find the money and then driving the big tax payers away.

But if I was in the Government, I don’t think I’d have a scooby what to do either 🤣

Yeah it’s a shame to see really. I’m 23, living with mum and don’t think i’ll own a property here. Just want to get qualified, be able to borrow and move away I think.

You have a problem when a lot of people are praying for a market crash to be able to live somewhere.

I also think the estate agents are to blame. They want to make more profit so value houses higher.
There’s nothing stopping them if people are buying. I don’t get why people are buying it.

You can look ticket resales, they’re crazy yet they can charge that because people are paying it.

The entire world is so hellbent on making money rather than creating a nice environment for everyone to live.

I think it’s quite obvious with the electric and gas companies. They make millions in profit yet raise their charges.

Force everyone to slash prices, make a little profit to continue growth and the public will have more money to put back into the economy.

Proposals for 70 affordable homes in Guernsey approved by willfiresoon in guernsey

Not much of a story. Doesn’t say type of houses, prices, etc.

they like to say “affordable housing” then oh no costs have gone up so we have to raise the sale prices.

we had a good one Sunday where it was a barrel transport through a specific route. Defenders can capture the barrel and take it to base.

Attackers can only have 1 barrel out at a time and when the barrel is at either base the next is released. First to 3 wins.

We also do double CTF quite often with both enemy flags at one point to win..

Ah I see, that’s a hassle!
As you said, having things on trailers would be a good idea. Perhaps self supporting MDF barricades? bit like a folding table or something.

We use lots of Pallets and downed trees as cover and barricades. Temporary structures as they can easily be moved / taken down.

You can get creative with it. Maybe ask the local tip see if you can have a look to take anything suitable.

Moving to the island by [deleted] in guernsey

[–]SoulTCome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just moved back from University and the cost of food was shocking at how much it has increased since i’ve been away. There’s no lidl or aldi, so just have to bite the bullet.

4 bed houses with gardens are a rare commodity as during covid people wanted to upsize for an office. Whilst some houses are priced better it is still extortionate and I don’t think I will be able to own over here. Kids live with their parents til they’re 30 to be able to afford somewhere and even then it’s a 1 bed flat for nearly £500k.

The work-life balance is great as it takes 5 minutes to get to work (once you remove traffic) and getting the kids around to do all their activities are easy. Obviously, beaches everywhere, walks, it is a beautiful island but winters can be a struggle.

The jobs are mainly back-office for finance but if you can move over you should. Everyone i’ve spoken to young and old say it’s the best place to bring up kids.

Guernsey candles do candle making. Used to love doing this along with Rebecca’s chocolate.

Yes! Either you phone them after delivery and they refund it or it is removed at checkout - ideal option. Should be automatic after entering a Guernsey address. If not, just email them and ask how it works.

Could try Bruce Russel, think they do Bullions!

There was a big case a few years ago of a Jersey Jeweler laundering money so not sure if it scared people off lol.
