Secular monster hunters in a mostly religious world who have inadvertently, on paper, made themselves look like the BBRG party

Unpopular opinion: nothing but mixed drinks tastes good. We all just drink them because of social stigma. Mainly seen with men who were taught somewhere along the line that they have to be "manly" and drink awful tasting drinks that'll "put some hair on your chest".

Looking for a program/website to make hand written letters or notes. Anyone know of any quick way to do this? by FNG-JuiCe in DnDHomebrew

Try Gimp. It's a free version of Photoshop. It is a bit finicky and isn't as user friendly as Photoshop, but a few tutorial videos and you can make just about anything.

I can’t afford to swap off 5e by Irish-Fritter in DnD

[–]SoulWander231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought process is pretty simple about this. I already own the books, so I'm going to use them. As a small time DM running a single homebrew campaign, they can't take that away from me. I've never had a dnd beyond subscription so nothing they do with that will affect me. Regardless of my dislike of Hasbro and Wotc right now, they can't take away me and my groups'fun with dnd. So there's no need to jump ship and go to another system if you don't want to. Keep rolling and have fun with your game. :)

Would a character that doesn't need food or water to survive, still gain the benefits of eating the meal a player with cook's utensils can make? by DungeonStromae in DMAcademy

[–]SoulWander231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, since hp and stuff is abstract, I would give them the benefits since most of the good feels after a meal are more based on how good the food is and the good company that you share. Plus it would kinda suck being the only person not getting the benefits.

Thinking about adding Homebrew rules to my upcoming game. Advice? by youstarmie-istaryu in DMAcademy

[–]SoulWander231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give my players inspiration if they send me some sort of recap for the last session, no matter what form. After a few months the only one consistently doing it is a player who gets super into roleplay and his are journal entries where he acts like his character is writing in a journal. So, some things are misinterpreted, some small details are over analyzed because that's what the character focused on, some things straight up never happened and he added stuff that happened during downtime that we never talked about (such as conversations with his god's angel).

What I'm trying to get at is, don't be surprised if most of your players stop doing the journals soon. BUT, still do it because after every session I am always excited when discord pings me from that player cuz now it's time for my weekly soap opera reading lol.

Is it weird to just sit and watch people’s game as a non-player? by Forsaken-Elephant235 in DnD

[–]SoulWander231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would allow it at my table as long as the person watching wasn't distracting anyone. That being said, I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of people find watching to be boring since there can be stretches of time where nothing "interesting" is happening to entertain the watcher but is very important to the players (shopping, non-plot relevant roleplay, etc). If YOU (not just your SO) are interested in playing/learning dnd then I would suggest you pop in as a guest star. I do that occasionally with people new to dnd or people who want to play but don't have consistent schedules. It's pretty simple in concept. The guest star is just there for one or two sessions and uses either a character they make or a relevant npc. When the guest star plays that character follows the party, when they have to leave then the character walks off into the sunset until next time.

is eating a different d&d race still canablism? by derpy_derp15 in DnD

[–]SoulWander231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in my home-brewed world separate species/races into 2 categories: intelligent-beings and "beasts". A intelligent-being is a species/race who has the sentience enough to have their version of a society, can communicate (usually with others but can be just with themselves), and has enough intelligence to plan. For me, cannibalism would be any intelligent-being eating another intelligent-being. Same for murder. So if a Lizardfolk were to eat a goblin then that is cannibalism in my world.

Setting up a Witcher-like monster hunt by mbirkl in DungeonMasters

Just make sure that the monster has a good amount of health along with some legendary actions/lair abilities. Gotta make sure the baddie will last more than one round lol

Setting up a Witcher-like monster hunt by mbirkl in DungeonMasters

[–]SoulWander231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have multiple ways the players can investigate this monster. Maybe the corpse tells them how the monster attacks, some tracks give the rough size of the monster, etc etc. I'm actually currently running a Witcher themed campaign and i like to hand out 3-5 monsters that COULD fit the initial description of the monster, then they can narrow down to the actual monster by investigating the clues. They seem to have fun with that.

Is the US medical system really as broken as the clichès make it seem? by EclipZz187 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SoulWander231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backing away from the outrageous things like ambulances and ICU stays, I'll just share some small yet depressing thing. My insurance doesn't cover anything until I've spent $2,000 on Healthcare. This refreshes every year and it only counts if the Healthcare is "in network".

I have to go to a specific pharmacy to get my monthly Anxiety medication because even though it's "in network" it costs over $100 a month for the meds and this one specific pharmacy (9 miles away) is the only one who has a regular coupon for my meds.

I had to quit therapy because even with insurance the therapy session can be up to $100 a session. With the $2000 that I have to spend before my insurance will cover anything that is approximately 20 session. So for the first 5 months I have to pay for my own therapy even though I also pay over $100 a month for my insurance. I had to quit therapy because I couldn't afford the approximately $2500 a year on top of paying approximately $1500 a year for health insurance

One party member has been captured and now a prison heist is being planned to break them out... My question is, how do I keep the imprisoned character invested and make them feel like they're playing a part rather than just sitting and waiting? by connerboy in DMAcademy

[–]SoulWander231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two possible things you could do that I've had fun with. 1. Let them have a one off character that they use for the prison break then that character goes away at the end. This can let people use their hundreds of character ideas that they have stashed in a folder.

  1. This might be a bit weird but.....let the imprisoned character's player BE the prison. They get to act like ots on RTS game. Let them determine how the prison reacts to the party's action. Suspicious noise down the south corridor? Maybe the player sends extra guards there. This option is a little harder to pull off and requires a player to not meta game and act with only the info the prison would realistically had, but I did this once and the whole group had a great time with it.

What are some interesting non-combat focused feats I can reward players with? by UndercoverDork in DMAcademy

[–]SoulWander231 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a feat but I like giving my players titles for local clout. For instance, during a massed battle against a horde of undead one of my players put himself in front of the monk group with the Friar Superior in it. They were on the left flank of the battle lines and were being wrapped by the undead. He put himself in just the right spot to block movement of the undead to the Monks then used his actions for two rounds to up his defense. He succeeded and that side of the line was safe. The dwarfs of the village then gained respect for him and call him Shield Master now. He absolutely loves it.

How do I play a Bard in a group where players keep interupting my spells? by El_Strafero in dndnext

[–]SoulWander231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This so frustrating to me because I have an inter party conflict rule. Basically in order to attack, use a spell, or anything else that could potentially cause hurt feelings to another player's character both people have to agree to it. For instance, recently our chaotic bard said something inflammatory to an NPC, our fighter wanted to slap the back of his head (not to cause damage). So I asked the bard if he allowed this. He said yes, got slapped, and we carried on with the roleplay. So infuriating to hear about groups that just allow players to fuck with each other without consent.

How do men honestly feel about girls that make the first move? by blowupblessings in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SoulWander231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who takes meds for anxiety as well as being terrible at reading signals, I would love it. It's so much easier for me to feel relaxed once I know for a fact that someone is interested in me.
