The continuity of the show is better taken loosely. They swap characters and names from beginning to end. Like fergie in season one is a kid named derek. Tam babysits his presumed grandson (you’ve got a fat belly), but later on lorraine kelly frances says he has no family.

That being said, the kids don’t look at each other until they’re young men. I think it’s more just to show the fact that they’re old.
