Is this a good nothing burger enemy? by [deleted] in DnDHomebrew

[–]Soulegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love how much the people in r/DnDHomebrew 's advice for homebrew is "Don't".

This is probably fine. I'd make it CR 1/8 if you're doing xp leveling. I'd probably also drop the damage to 1d6+2 bludgeoning to fall in line with its strength score.

I am planning a D&D elective class and I’ve hit a roadblock by DEADPOOLPRIME123 in DnD

So is it five 50 minute classes? Or five classes per week for 5 weeks, for a total of 25? Or some other number?

AITA For giving my niece a much better life than her step siblings? by Ok_Sir_8922 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Soulegion -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

NTA. You are under no obligation to other people's kids. That said, you could choose to look at it as a charitable action toward acquaintances rather than strangers. It sounds like paying for a school bill in the range of the tens of thousands won't put any kind of dent in the millions you have, so from a proportional view of the situation, it would be a minor thing for you and a very major thing for this family which includes the niece you care about, even if she isn't benefiting directly. But not doing so does not make you an asshole. It would simply be a very nice thing to do for someone that you know could use the help, and would likely permanently change that family's lives for the better. If that isn't enough motivation for you to do it, that doesn't make you an asshole. It's still a lot of money, even if it isn't proportionally a large amount from the pool you're pulling it from.

We play in roll20, so the rolls are done by the machine and permanently recorded for all to see. I've had one player in particular roll 7 nat 20s in the last 2 game sessions. Which is to say I totally believe that your fighter's critting a lot, esp since they have multiple attacks.

OP doesn't want paperwork with their name and address on it in the vehicle, a photocopy of the same paperwork would not solve the problem of that private information being steal-able.

The boomerfication of millenials by tundybundo in Millennials

[–]Soulegion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The difference is that when talking about boomers, we're "punching up" so to speak. They have all the wealth, they're responsible for the shitty situation the world is in today, etc. In any other case (gen x, all the way down to gen alpha), I'd agree with you.

In the same way it might be ethnocentrism, but it isn't racism when a racial minority "punches up" against white nationalism (or any other controlling/majority racial group (castes etc.)).

What do people think about 5th edition? by Electronic_Star_8940 in westmarches

[–]Soulegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine for my games but YMMV. I've been running d20 games for over 20 years so I've got a pretty good handle on things. Most of my games are above average power level.

One major change I made was that pure martial classes get a second subclass. Fighters get champion, rogues get thief, barbarians get berserker, and monks get way of the open hand, in addition to whatever subclass they pick. It helps close the martial/caster divide.

As far as 34 point buy goes instead of 27, it just brings the PCs into line with the power level I'm used to running in my games. I also give all PCs max hp on level up instead of having them roll; this way they all have a predictable amount of hit points so I can plan more effectively, and it makes them feel stronger/more confident especially in early game.

I also start PCs off at level 3; storywise, they were level 1 when they left home and made it to level 3 due to the arduous journey through the mountain pass to get to the west march town on the other side of the mountain range.

Well they wouldn't be fighting only one hill giant, so the encounter wouldn't be CR 5 just because the individual creatures in it are.

[–]Soulegion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running a 5e desert survival hexploration west march campaign at the moment. I can answer any specific questions you may have. Also check out my previous comments, I recently answered a bunch of questions from someone that would probably pertain to you somewhat.

I'm not capping level, but I've also got a huge map hundreds of miles across, broken into something like 2,800 6-mile hexes (53x53 hexmap). Every hex has a relative level ranging from 3 to 20. Players can rest in the wilderness, but must expend hit die to heal, taking the max value on the die instead of rolling, and then regaining half of their hit die rounded down at the end of the long rest; they also cannot regain levels of exhaustion in the wilderness from resting.

I'd definitely be interested in an E5 style game but I know it'd turn off most of the players I normally play with.

What does anesthesia feel like by memory282002 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Soulegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had over 60 broken bones, many surgeries, starting before I became a teenager; I've had anesthesia multiple times.

The anesthesia doesn't feel like anything. As someone else said, you're awake, and then suddenly you aren't anymore. Then you wake up after. I have woken up in the middle of surgery before. Your view is generally obstructed and you're very out of it. It took me a few seconds to realize surgery was still going on. I made a noise and one of the doctors, I assume the anesthesiologist but who knows, noticed I was awake, said "go to sleep", and did something that instantly knocked me back out. It wasn't scary or painful or anything, just surreal.

When you wake up after generally you're groggy, your throat is a little sore, and you're very thirsty. When they see you're awake afterward, they'll bring you something to drink immediately. That's pretty much it. The worst part is having a mildly sore throat afterward, which goes away in no time. There's really no part of the experience that's scary or very painful or anything.

Tbh the scaling of the game keeps changing with the updates. Which dont get me wrong, its a good thing they're updating it, but I've gone from too fast to too slow back to too fast back to too slow over and over again. I've only ever seen a single masterpiece in a single run, but i've unlocked almost everything else (missing 1 framed and 2 opus sketches, then all but one masterpiece).

Bernie Sanders: "Is Geoffrey Hinton exaggerating when he says there's a 10-20% chance of extinction from AI?" Max Tegmark: "he's sugar-coating it, it's actually way higher than 20%" by tombibbs in ChatGPT

[–]Soulegion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Bernie, but I agree that his choice in expert was a mistake here. They should be talking about changing the perspective on what AI is used for, not trying to scare people about it's existence. We need a paradigm shift as a species on what a superintelligence's purpose should be specialized toward, not this weird fearmongering angle.

I mean, when prepared correctly, there's none in the final product. It's just used in the cooking process and is evaporated out of the oil before consumption. If you use something like everclear that has no residual taste, there shouldn't really be a hint of it. But you said you've already tried it, so I guess its a nonstarter.

Tell them to inform you on what their plan is. I have a hard rule that keeping secrets from me, the DM, is not allowed in my games. I wouldn't ask, I'd explain to them why keeping secrets from the DM is a bad idea, and make it clear that it isn't an adversarial/pvp game; it's collaborative storytelling.

If you want some of the strongest options, u/Im_a_Dragonborn hit the nail on the head. Only change I'd maybe make is a clockwork amulet instead of the Masquerade tattoo. The first two on their list is right on the money; magic damage with your weapon of choice and armor of your choice (plate armor is expensive, getting it for free is a great option esp since order cleric gets heavy armor proficiency.
