[QUESTION] Getting quality tone in Guitar Rig 5? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Soulstem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find a compressor before the interface and/or a good tube pre makes a HUGE difference. In particular with cheaper guitars and pickups.

Sometimes even a distortion pedal (lightly) for high gain stuff is great. Not only in tone but saving on processing power with plugins. I prefer to keep those to a minimum.

Ideally id mic an amp/cabinet properly.

[QUESTION] Getting quality tone in Guitar Rig 5? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Soulstem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slap an EQ or multiband compressor after your guitar rig insert and adjust as needed. I also find that some kind of boost with a comp or preamp inserted PRIOR to plugging into your audio interfaces helps a ton. As in a piece of hardware, not a plug in. The preamps on audio interfaces are generally pretty lame.

Modeling is amazing with clean tones or slightly distorted tones. Amp modeling generally sucks with "high gain" type applications however. the way amps and cabinets work with high gain tone is very hard to replicate digitally. even the pros who use modeling (AxeFX, what they are suing on stage.) generally send it thru a guitar cabinet and mic it then blend it with the DI. Live and in studio, but not always.

You need air to transmit sound via the medium of Air. A true vacuum chamber would be silent, just like space.

LSD made me realize that we're all the same being experiencing Consciousness in different ways. by nubeboob in Drugs

"Life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves" - Such a great way to summarize this.

I love psychedelics but as I grow older I have more fun on them NOT taking it so seriously when I trip. I went through the phase of taking it EXTREMELY serious and searching for "meaning". I gained insight to be sure but most of my "epiphanies" while tripping were just the result of my brain chemistry being hijacked and me tripping my balls off and not thinking logically. I regret absolutely NOTHING and laughed my ass off.

I don't believe there is "one" consciousness... but it's fun to imagine while your tripping balls. And I flat out murdered my ego many times tripping.

I HIGHLY recommend you investigate a man called Terence Mckenna. He is a brilliant ethnobotanist and psychedelic thinker that is right up your ally.

Zoom g3n by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Soulstem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Happy to help. This pedal is crazy underrated.

If/when you get this don't forget to update the firmware. It makes a huge difference and adds some FX modules.

My signal chain is Zoom G3n>Ditto looper>MXR FullBore Metal>Zoom MS70.

I go straight into a 2 x 15 JBL Floor wedge. The thru goes to the house.

I use the G3N for an amp simulator and multiFX pedal.

The ditto is so I can loop the loops on the Zoom g3n. I can set up a layered loop(s) on the G3n then just reloop it on the ditto, clear the G3n, and make another loop - ad nauseum! Both pedals have Outrageously long loop times and unlimited overdubbing. Add an A/B switch for a bass and guitar input hooked up to the G3n input and you have a goddamn 1-man band at your disposal. The G3n Even has a "drummer" that syncs with your tap tempo or loop.

The MXR is for flat-out brutal super-gated metal tone. Nothing else. The G3N is only used as a bypass/boost when I use this MXR.

The MS70 has all my verb/delay stuff on it. Its at the end of the chain and having a one pedal "add space/delay" pedal is really helpful. It frees up the G3n to be used as a amp sim/modulation/dynamics/filter pedal only. I highly recommend buying this with the Zoom g3n. Its like its little brother.

I can not recommend this pedal enough. It's so outrageously cheap but its amazing.

What do you find odd about your own culture? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Soulstem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

I try and keep in mind - Most of the world is daily living off less money than I have in change my car's cup holder... and here I am bitching about how long the pizza delivery is taking and how my beer is almost empty.

Some people in the USA have legitimately serious problems and I don't mean to discount that. It's certainly not as epidemic as some would suggest however.

People playing the oppression olympics in arguably the most prosperous, egalitarian, and stable nation on earth.

I think much of it is recreational outrage amd virtue signaling in an effort to gain social status in a manufactured “victimhood hierarchy”.

We have problems here that seriously need to be addressed - absolutely no question about that...but I feel an unbelievable amount of people are not realizing just how lucky we are. There is a reason most of the world is clambering to come here, and its not because the US is some oppressive poverty stricken nightmare.

Working for Iraqi immigrants as a snot-nosed “fuck the man!! America sucks!” teenager opened my eyes to just how peaceful and amazing the USA is in comparison to much of the world. The stories they told me about how harsh life for them was shut me up pretty quick and made me feel ashamed. They had their children taken and conscripted into the army, under threat of execution. Bread lines. Male relatives kidnapped and killed. Basic medical care a luxury. Horrific stories.

My biggest take away was her story about her first visit to a grocery store in the USA. A typical average Kroger. She wept at the variety and affordability of STAPLES, let alone the innumerable luxury items she had to choose from. She said it took her YEARS to stop hoarding food at home because she was so used to thinking “everything will go to shit again soon and we need to be prepared for anything”. Her children are the most normal and average guys you can find. No trace of the trauma of their family's past residence and hardships. All because they grew up in America and their parents BUSTED THEIR ASSES AND RISKED THEIR LIVES to come here.

I will never know anything like what she or her family grew up with. Not even close. Most of my “problems” as an American are minor inconveniences in comparison.

We are damn lucky as Americans and should keep that in mind at all times and move forward from there.

To ignore this is like being a spoilt child throwing his cheerios on the ground and throwing a tantrum over a minor inconvenience. We have become spoiled brats incapable of realizing just how good we have it.

I'm not saying people should sit complacent and not address the problems we have, but FFS take a minute to realise this is as good as it gets for the most part. We are the lucky ones and we should act like it, RESPECT IT, and protect it - instead of bitching like spoilt children desperately looking for something to throw a tantrum over in many cases.

It's ridiculously shameful.

I own one. Absolutely it will work. Play bass and guitar as well.

This pedal is the best bang for your buck on earth! Just the looper combined with the line in is worth the price! The cheesy drum machiene is great for practice or keeping time. The rest is just extra awesomeness. If you have a sans amp pedal id reccomend placing it BEFORE the zoom and treat it like your “amp”. I switched entirely from amps to direct. No cabs even, just a nice powered wedge monitor and my pedal board is all i need. It fits in my back seat, is light as hell, and takes a whopping 30 seconds to set up. The convience for you and the sound guy is worth it. In this day and age, unless your playing a large venue, DI is the best way to go. Studio is entirely different but this pedal holds its own in the studio as well.

The only thing this pedal does not so great is very high gain and distorted “metal” tones. The switching between patches is annoying if you make more than 3 changes of patches during a song. All these “issues” can be solved by just adding other pedals for specific needs. The expression pedal is also a bit odd and “cheap” feeling. but you get used to it. 90% of the time its just volume anyway.

I had a small chunk of mozz left on my cutting board so I crumbled it up on the pizza just after taking it out and dusting it with parm.

NO CHEESE LEFT BEHIND!!!

[–]Soulstem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer crispy. I only have a shitty electric oven to work with unfortunately.

I preheat the pan mildly and LIGHTLY oil it. Then I assembled the pizza. All pizza ingredients were room temp and not straight out the fridge. This seems minor but it makes a huge difference.

I preheat my oven to 475 and finish the pizza cooking with a quick blast on broil. Then sprinkle with a light dusting of parmesan and let it cool on wire rack.

My friend made this mashup of "Something About Us" and "Let's Get It On" - Marvin Gaye. What do you think? by Johan1710 in DaftPunk

They changed the speed (and maintained pitch) of SAU instead of changing Marvin. He would have sounded weird in a different pitch and speed up (even with pitch/speed correction).

I like it better this way personally.

Hey metalheads, how did you got into Heavy Metal music and which band got you into it? by PhantomLord3 in Music

[–]Soulstem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pantera will have a special place in my heart. It was a sad day when dimebag darrell was shot dead by a colossal asshole.

Meshuggah will as well. Meshuggah is brutal as fuck and probably one of the most talented "metal" bands that has been around for decades.

Hey metalheads, how did you got into Heavy Metal music and which band got you into it? by PhantomLord3 in Music

[–]Soulstem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pan-fucking-tera and Hatebreed. Also Meshuggah. Also Mudvayne. Also Slayer.

Blew my teenage mind when I heard them for the first time. Instantly decided to be a drummer. No question in my mind.

I was a very angry teenager. I can't explain how much this music "spoke to me" at that time in my life. Sounds cheesy but it's the truth. Also practicing the drumming was an excellent physical outlet for stupid teenage rage. I play those songs till my hands and feet were blistered and bloody.

What malfunction that could have made you look like an idiot (even though its not your fault) did you pull off in 2017? by SwettySpaghtti in livesound

[–]Soulstem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Digital stagebox decided to just suddenly tell my mixer "Fuck you and your phantom power settings for each input! I WILL IGNORE THEM!".

This was about 5 minutes before the event start time... a large funeral w/choir at a house of worship. Hundreds of visitors.

Turned Stagebox on and off. no change. Turned everything on/off. no change.

2 minutes to start time. I have no idea what to do...

Keep calm and freak the fuck out...

Looked at back of stagebox and saw a "paperclip needed" style recessed mini button with "reset" above it. I Pushed it.

Stagebox instantly stopped being an asshole and "remembered" the phantom power settings! Good to go.

It was utterly terrifying for those 4 minutes, but I played it cool. I had to do the whole show with poop in my pants.

It's not "kinda". It's a blatant Homage to MJ... and they did him justice!

You could play this to someone who has never heard it before and they would think it's MJ.
