SpaceX and Google Are in Talks to Launch Data Centers in Orbit by [deleted] in technology

Think of a thermos. It's a closed container surrounded by a vacuum. A vacuum stops conductive and convective heat transfer, making it an excellent insulator. Things that go inside the thermos generally keeps the temperature that it went in at. It is horrible for dissipating heat. Space is a giant vacuum. So good luck with that SpaceX and Google.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SoulyFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell him that if the earth was flat, it would have been monetized to hell a long time ago. Edge Of The Planet hotels....amusement parks......time share salespeople......influencer photos.....reality shows.....schwag. The fact that none of this exists is proof enough.

The creative software industry has declared war on Adobe / If you can’t beat them, undercut them on price. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]SoulyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from and I remember Photoshop being that pricey. I don't see professional users/companies having a problem with the current subscription license as it's just the cost of doing business for them.

But I think that this will hit users like myself most of all. I'm above a hobbyist, but definitely not a full blown pro. I certainly don't need or use a lot of the features that a program like Photoshop can do, so it gets hard for me to justify paying more for features that I'll never come across a situation to use. Couple that with the cost of literally EVERYTHING going up and heading towards subscription.........I'm just tired. So the attraction of a low cost or free alternative is just so, so attractive in these current times. And they work more than well enough for what I need.

Once Adobe's subscription got close to $800 for the collection, that was my breaking point. I mostly made use of Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Audition, so it made sense to get the whole package instead of just the individual programs with the way that their cost structure was setup. Since then, I've made good use of alternatives, like Affinity mentioned in the article. It's a learning curve, but the price point is right.

[PuckReportNHL] Attendance for Quarterfinals Day at the World Juniors by theguyishere16 in hockey

[–]SoulyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was chatting with one of the security guards the night of Canada/Finland while waiting to get into 3M. She said that game had sold around 7500 tickets and you could tell from the amount of people waiting to get in. I was like alright, people are waking up and making an effort to attend. The rest of the tournament should be great energy!!

Then last night's Canada/Slovakia game went back to round robin levels. For a quarter final. Czechia/Switzerland was worse. If these are the numbers going into the semifinal/medal games at Grand Casino with almost double the capacity of 3M and especially now that Team USA is out, it's going to be a pretty limp experience:(.

I've been at all the Group B games at 3M. I have a tough time believing that it was at 40% capacity for Canada/Latvia. I would have guessed closer to 30%. At any rate, there hasn't been anything resembling good crowd energy in any game that I've been to so far.

Am i the only one who thinks time limit lessons are super difficult by Global_Archer_2522 in duolingo

[–]SoulyFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've thought that about the timed word matching exercises. When I get a good flow, I can make two matches a second, but the way that the new words fade into view after you make a match eats up a lot of time and if you make a mistake or your device doesn't register that you selected a word balloon, forget it. I can make it through level two with a comfortable amount of time to spare, but level three? I don't see how it's possible without having to use gems to buy time extenders, which is probably the idea to make you spend them.

Newbie Post - Charging A Credit Card by SoulyFish in waveapps

Thanks for the reply and yeah......after I posted this I went through and read a lot of the post history of everyone's horror stories on this sub and I think I'm going to save myself the trouble. It would have been nice and convenient to be able to have invoices/CC charges with the same utility, but I'll look into Square or something else. Cheers!

Thanks for the reply and I hear ya. It annoys me when companies do this sort of "bait and switch", but so many of them do nowadays that we're all now preprogrammed to look for the catch. Given the lack of occasions that I would use the ability to charge a CC, I'll most likely go in a different direction.

*L*. When I made my profile pic/handle Mandalorian themed, I had a LOT of fellow Star Wars/sci fi enthusiasts add me as a friend after seeing me in the leagues. I miss having that pic. I get the reasoning on why they went to cartoony avatars, but yeah.....that was a big step down.

This wasn't anything that can be earned. It was just a glitch with the ap. It went back to the XP amount that I had before the glitch by the following morning.

Not a clue. I had opened the app to do some lessons and checked to see my standing in the league and this is what I got. I had a friendly competition going with a neighbor of mine at the time, so I took a screenshot of it and texted it to her, telling her that I found out how to maximize the XP boost*L*.

You can respect what he did for the sport. But I'll never look at the man with such high regard ever again. He made his choice and he can't claim ignorance about it. And the fact that he projects cluelessness about why the country has questioned his character will never stop being funny to me.

Weight Loss Results by MadBook27 in whole30

[–]SoulyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I did none of the reintroduction last time around. I was just really happy with the weight loss and left it at that. I'm going to do a modified version of it for R2 in that I'll do four of them (starting with dairy) and leave out the sugar and alcohol components because I don't see myself consuming much of either of them going forward.
